With the 10.5" iPad going to make its debut at the WWDC what will happen to the 9.7" iPad Pro ? Will even that get a iPad Pro 2 at the WWDC ?

So there will be no further iterations to the 9.7 iPad Pro like a 9.7" iPad Pro 2 ?

No one knows for sure. But I don't see Apple retaining two 9.7 iPad models. The 2017 iPad will be in the line up and the 10.5 iPad will be next. I also don't fully believe the 10.5 iPad will be launching during WWDC.

No...No...atleast from the rumours the 10.5" iPad is for sure happening at the WWDC

"For sure happening"? Did Apple confirm this? Rumors don't consequently mean anything and not even Macrumors has answers to what's releasing or not. But you are inclined to believe whatever you want.
For sure means 70%.

It's like the weather. The only way you're 100% sure is to step outside. In this case, it's step inside an Apple Store.

I'm not trying to be dismissive on anyone's thoughts or beliefs with rumors. But rumors are not concrete evidence of anything and they have no validity some times.

For example, it was heavily rumored last year, the Second Generation Apple Watch was going to launch during WWDC 2016. Ming Kuo, BGR and multiple "Analysts" all stated this would happen.....They were wrong.

Rumors are what someone wants to make of something and I respect that. But I don't believe we will see an new iPad release during this time frame. Maybe a smart speaker, but even that I question. The Developers conference has altered quite a bit these last five years and it's not hardware based as it once was, primarily because how the conference has expanded in numbers/activities.

I see this iPad launching September through November.

Personally, I don't expect it. I think they want to further differentiate the pro line. No real reason to have two Pro iPad's that are that close in size.

You certainly have a point here, rumors are rumors. I just feel like there are too many coincidences lining up (multiple reports, availability dates, new wallpapers in the upcoming beta). Then again, we haven't seen any product or case leaks, so it very well might all mean nothing. We'll see in a couple weeks.

Yeah I think they'll keep the 9.7 Pro and probably update it with micro bezels some point later in the year. The 10.5 is going to cost more than the current 9.7 pro and the disparity in price between iPad models would simply be too large.

Was looking at the 9.7, would be a shame if they don't update it or keep something similar. From the "rumors" the 10.5 will have the same form factor, just smaller bezels.

Big difference in usability between the 9.7 and 12.9, esp 1 handed use/reading.

Apple low key confirmed it for us with those wallpapers guys, unless you can show me another time when they arbitrarily released a interim iOS update with new iPad specific wallpapers outside of a major update for iOS. Also those new wallpapers only work for 12.9 iPad Pro with would coincide with the rumor that the 10.5 inch iPad Pro would have the 12.9inch resolution because why would Apple just randomly give the 12.9 inch Pro users 3 new wallpapers in the third bug fix release of the third point update in iOS 10.

I would expect the 9.7" iPad Pro to drop or stagnate like the iPad mini.

The sweet spot for a working tablet seems to be 10-13" if Microsoft Surface is any indication.

Iv'e found patience from future 9.7 pro purchase.

Maybe 9.7 pro will become more mid level ipdad wih the 10.5 due to be announced.

Not very likely, because there is the basic iPAD 2017. Actually the old iPP 9.7 does not fit in the lineup with a new 10.5 coming out. Would seem more logic to see a refresh of the 12.9 with simply updated tech. 10.5 with narrow beezels more logic after iPhone 8 announcement.
But what do I know....?

You know about as much as everyone else in here.

However, I do agree the alleged 10.5 iPad will launch around/near the iPhone, perhaps be available after the iPhone 8.

I disagree. I believe the 10.5 cost will the same/similar to current 9.7pro which wil be discontinued. Just my opinion of course.

I think the 10.5 will replace the 9.7 pro and the 9.7 pro will be discontinued leaving the new 10.5, 12.9 and the 9.7 basic low budget ipad.

I also think the 10.5 will be revealed at wwdc but its actual release date may be a month away. I dont think we will see a new 12.9 until after Sept. I think they would want to keep 10.5 and 12.9 ipads release at different times. I really want to see a new 12.9 with cintiq like abilities but that seems to be way further down the pike. (something by apple not astropad)

What new wallpapers?

Looking at the replies, I'm glad many people have seen sense. There were loads of people that through the 10.5" iPP would be another model in the lineup. Personally I don't know why anybody would think that.

The only valid reason where I would agree they may keep it around is as a budget Pro, maybe for just a year or so.

Wouldn't surprise me if both were kept around as then Apple can charge a premium for the 10.5 inch Pro cause they like doing that these days.

Personally I'd settle very happily for a 9.7 inch pro with 4GB of ram and the latest CPU and GPU, I'm not interested in loosing home buttons/bezels.

Yeah I think they may do that because of pricing, but not update the 9.7". They've kept older iPad models in the past so it would make sense.

I agree with that, although I would like a larger screen that isn't as big as the 12.9". I really don't like onscreen buttons and the reduced bezels isn't good for a tablet of that size, unless they improve on their palm rejection (even then, it's hard to get used to placing your hands over part of the screen).
