Yes, but apple could require 4gb for a more pro ios/PadOS for better and new multitasking, etc functions. And that is what WWDC will mean for the ipad, they' ll show a more complex IOS with more functions for the ipad pro(with 4gb), and that is why apple is not in a hurry to update the 12.9, it already has 4gb, and the rumored 10.5 will also have 4gb.
They want new hw to show this ios pro/PadOS on, and showing it on the 1.7 years old 12.9 inch ipad won' t have that effect/feeling of domething completely new.

So my guess for the line-up:
    Ipad 9.7 without pencil/smart connector
Ipad 9.7 " pro" is on its way out in a year, but has some pro functions , like the pencil and smart connector/keyboard
Ipad 10.5 and ipad 12.9(current en new) will have some extra "pro" functions with ios 11.
(Filemanager? Higher res, multi account?, even a smart keyboard with a trackpad?)

Why do you care what will happen to the Pro 9.7?

My recollection is that you didn't buy the Pro 9.7" in large part because it only had 2gb RAM.

If the Pro 10.5" debuts and only has 2gb RAM, will you also say No. Or will you say Yes if the Pro 10.5" has 3gb?

Either way, why do you care what will become of the Pro 9.7?

You don't own one, didn't buy one when it was on sale, and unless something has changed, no plans on buying one.

Everyone would love to see 4gb RAM on the iPad 10.5...whether it becomes reality is another matter.

That's only one of the many reasons I'm expecting the new iPads

That is not surprising given how long ago the last iPad Pro introductions were.

I think the 10.5 IPad Pro will have 3GB of RAM
IPhone 7 Plus has 3GB of RAM, and A10X will be more powerful that A10 , so my guess is 3GB of RAM for the next ipad . As for the 12.9, I don't know Apple can increase or it can stay at 4GB of ram.

That is what I'm leaning towards too. Hopefully.

I don't think it will have 4gb. That would be a surprise.

Problably not . 3GB Of ram iPad Pro 10.5

As for the 12.9 iPad Pro 2 , may Apple can maintain the 4GB of ram or maybe can increase. Don't know .

Tim Cook comes out from the ceiling via a harness. As he lands on the stage, with fog machines blaring fog everywhere, he unveils under his shirt the iPad Pro, 9.7".

    "Welcome to WWDC 2017".

    Huge applause.

"This. This right here is our 9.7 inch iPad Pro".

He holds it up in the air with both his hands. A large 9.7 is on the big screen. Five seconds of silence as he holds it up.

The iPad, still being held up by Tim Cook, out of nowhere gets a bullet directly through it, narrowly missing Tim's ear.

9.7 quickly gets stomped and destroyed by a giant 10.5 on the giant screen.

Huge applause by the crowd. The camera sweeps through the audience, showing a standing ovation of people with tears running down their face. Barron Trump can be seen in the crowd yawning.

"I want everyone to give a giant round of applause to Dr Dre, who shot the good-for-nothing iPad Pro 9.7" in that dope stunt you guys just saw. Look, Dre's in the rafters up there with a rifle. Say hi to him!"

The camera quickly pans to Dr. Dre in the rafters, smiling and waving to the camera with a military-grade sniper rifle to his side.

"Thank you for attending WWDC 2017, and I hope you all had as much fun here as I did. Apple is doing magical things that will revolutionize the industry, once again."

As Tim leaves the stage, U2 come out to gigantic applause to perform, the audience going crazy.

So for whatever reason, requirements for iOS are just going to stay the same, and nothing we do on the iPad will get any more intensive than it is today? Apple may as well stop updating iPad hardware then.

There is a difference between 'enough for now' and 'enough to last me 6 years like my iPad 2 did'. The Mac comparison is not valid given how iOS handles virtual memory compared to how MacOS does. The simple fact is that each version of iOS thus far has upped the amount of ram it uses, as more professional apps migrate to the iPad the same is happening, they are more ram hungry. I am already hitting the limits of 2GB of ram on the iPad Air 2 while browsing and also multitasking.

Oh god yeah let's make sure it doesn't have 4GB of ram, that extra 1 GB would break the bank. I'd really like to buy a new iPad but I'm not buying it if its gimped compared to the 12.9 inch pro. They should both get the same specs.

So if it comes with 3gb and not 4gb...then No for you?

I predicted 3gb back when the first rumor surfaced about a 10.5" ipad. Don't be surprised if it has 3gb...that's all that I'm saying.

You want 4gb...get the 12.9" model.

Yep no purchase for me. I don't want the ginormous pro. If Apple is going to call it a 'Pro' model (which is a farce a way) they should at least have the decency to put the top of the line GPU, CPU and Ram in and not cut corners.

    Why?
Their top of the line of 1.6 or so years ago has 4gb.
    Predictions:
-10.5 inch will have the same res as the current 12.9 inch, so it will be 326 dpi, like the ipad mini.
Latest beta ios has 3 new wallpapers for the 12.9 inch ipad pro res only, interesting timing.
    -10.5 inch will be 4gb.

10.5 will be more expensive than the ipad pro 9.7 inch.

Bean Counter Tim LOVES a SKU-Festival..

I think the phone and pad line will have a similar lineup.

    iPad Pro 9.7"
    iPad Ultra (or something) 10.5"
    iPad Pro 12.9"

    iPhone 7s 4.7"
iPhone Ultra (or 8 or something) 5"-ish
    iPhone 7s+ 5.5"

Well, that certainly would be a good start....except the "10.5 will be more expensive than the ipad pro 9.7 inch" bit. :(

I'm thinking an increase to 6 GB is likely.

These are my iPad Pro predictions for WWDC:
    • iPad Pro 2 12.9" — A10X 10 nm — 128-bit bus — 6 GB RAM — $799 (base model)
      • An LCD and a > 60 Hz refresh rate
    • iPad Pro 2 10.5" — A10X 10 nm — 64-bit bus — 3 GB RAM — $599 (base model)
      • Thinner bezels than the existing iPad Pro but not "bezel-free," an LCD, and a > 60 Hz refresh rate
    • iPad Pro 9.7" — A9X 16 nm — 64-bit bus — 2 GB RAM — $499 (32 GB) [existing model]
      • Either this or the iPad Pro 9.7" will be discontinued entirely.
A10X predictions (these are probably going to be wrong…):
    • 3 "big" CPU cores
    Compared to the A11:
    • Similar single threaded CPU performance
    • Higher multithreaded CPU performance
    • Higher GPU performance

EDIT: removed solid state Home button prediction after reading this post.

If the 10.5" iPad Pro is bigger (Ginormous) in size I still have the 9.7" iPad Pro on my mind that's why !

But, according to the rumors, dimensions will be the same as the 9.7 inch

You and I both know that you are not going to buy the Pro 9.7". Who's kidding who here.

You will either get the 10.5 or the Pro2 9.7 (if it gets refreshed)...the long shot is the 12.9 (if you can deal with the size).

    Why do I surmise that?

Because I suggested buying the Pro 9.7" last year when it was $200 off at BB and you didn't go for it then.

Now a year later, $200 off that model isn't happening plus the upgraded processor, etc with the pending iPad news...we both see the writing on the wall.

Perhaps he had a gut feeling 2gb for the pro ipad version wasn' t enough.
My guess is that he was right, i think new ios 11, will have more dedicated functions for a 4gb ipad than 2gb. Or that apple might even launch A dedicated PadOS or ios pro that will only goes with 4gb.
So ipad 2gb : regular ios with a few adiitions(splitscreen and pip)
Ipad 4gb: PadOS/ ios pro with more functionality and flexibility.

But if he didn' t get it because he thought it was too expensive: he will not buy the 10.5 it will be more expensive than the 9.7 pro at launch.

I genuinely didn't feel like upgrading last year that's the only reason that I have.

You know a lot about what I am going to do lol ! An upgrade didn't appeal to me last year, let's see what does it have in store for this year and we shall see what happens.
