iPad Pro What will it take for you to upgrade to iPad Pro 2021?

The more I think about it, I'd like a large display without all the 'Pro' stuff. 13 inch-ish display with decent specs.

I can't be alone in thinking the only Camera need is front facing for FaceTime or other video calls. I don't need nice speakers, as I 100% use AirPods.

I really don't think Apple, fully understands my needs ... 🤣

If Apple releases an iPad Air 12.9" for $200 less than a similarly configured Pro model, I'd happily get that. Alas, probably not a big enough market to justify its existence. Well, more like majority would probably end up buying the cheaper, less profitable 12.9" iPad. It's probably not worth it to Apple to split that market. :p

Umm.. I believe Siri can open apps on the iPad, not sure about files. Siri is pretty useful as it is. I think eventually Apple will get to the point where Siri can do more things on the iPad.

Agreed- more IOS than hardware. However, I won’t replace my 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 until these things are mostly resolved. Having said that, my error - I don’t want USB C3.1, but rather Thunderbolt-4. It may be another year or two, but I’ll happily wait. And again, SIRI can do so many things on my 2014 iMac that can’t be done on the iPad. Frustrating when I try to use SIRI and then have to remember the disparity.

Hmm, I’d disagree with this, not because I’m taking fancy photos with my iPad, but for scanning documents and reference images (frequently it’s quicker to snap a picture of something rather than typing out the information). For those purposes, I think the rear camera is necessary, but it doesn’t sell me on the device. My 2 cents 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, for scanning I prefer my iPad over my 12 Pro Max phone.

Pro Apps that are incompatible with previous iPads.

If its just going to be yet another leap in hardware with no corresponding software then whats the point of upgrading? (I’m not saying I wouldn’t upgrade, Im just saying that it would be the same upgrade trap that I fall into so often) :D

iPadOS has it's limits so comparing the price to a new M1 MacBook makes the sell even harder.

The one thing that would make me upgrade in a heartbeat? Give it 8GB of RAM and let me bootcamp my iPad into Big Sur with a mouse and keyboard when I need a desktop class OS. Instant buy.

Agree 100% - only device which could
entice me to upgrade to 2021 edition would be bootcamp / dual boot to macOS with external monitor support.

Completely agree. Some sort of rear camera is necessary. I certaintly don't need 3 lenses though 🙃

there needs to be some killer new feature. My iPad Pro 10.5 still works wonders, but only feels old in terms of design.
 
I would upgrade from my 2017 Pro for a much better screen (e.g. Mini LED). Think the current is somewhat subpar compared to the quality of the iPhone.

I would typically want to upgrade by now, but my 2018 is still perfect. I have really no reason to update until some sort of major shift in screen technology or a redesign. I’d love what you mentioned about about a dual boot option, but I just can’t see Apple going in this direction. Then again, pricing is comparable and we‘re onto Apple silicon.

Excuse me for expressing my opinion. I guess yours rates higher on the totem pole. The title of the thread is "what will it take to get you to upgrade? Going to be good and not say what I really want to right now.
 
I have the 11” 2020, I would probably upgrade if a 12” hit the market, I think that would be a sweet spot device but unlikely to happen.

I would also consider it if the FaceTime cam was in landscape and it was more structurally sound.

I’m sharing on opinion too as is the sense of the forum. It’s not about higher or lower or whatever competition you think you’re on .
 
My 2017 12.9 Pro still works fine. I think a price cut or a really good trade in price on my current tablet would entice me to upgrade this year.
 
The hardware in my 11" 2018 Pro is more than adequate for my current needs. I think the only thing that would make me upgrade is if I started using some more demanding software in the future
 
I have a 2016 iPad Pro 9.7" that was issued to me by work.

I used to use it heavily... But lately, especially in the past year, I've hardly touched it. The few times I pick it up the battery is at 0% and it spends a long time syncing up to iCloud because it's been weeks or months since I last used it.

Reasons?

- The pandemic: I've been home a lot and not traveling. I mostly used my iPad when traveling. When I'm home I'd rather use my iMac. In the office I use the iMac there.
- My iPhone 11 Pro Max: It's just... too good. Everything I need iOS for I can get done on the iPhone, which is faster and more pleasant to use than the iPad despite the small screen. For everything else there's the iMac.

I can't justify upgrading my iPad right now. If work issues me a new one, I'll take it. But actually buying one? I'd rather wait until the pandemic is over and it might actually get some decent use!
