What will make you switch from the iPhone to the Galaxy S4?

If that's the s4, I'm going to be sourly tempted for this bad boy. My issue is that I'm well enmeshed in iOS/OSX and Apple makes life a lot easier when I'm on the same platform but I have to say the leaked (or rumored) images of the S4 are such that its quite tempting.

oh and let's not forget that anodized black finish that easily scratches off but fear not Phil Schiller said it's normal

I have both Android and iOS devices - be careful when you start labelling.


And mighty text and airdroid are NOT iM services. You can't send pictures and videos without incurring carrier charges as they become MMS's. All you are doing with those apps is sending text messages by proxy. That is not the same thing as iMessage.
 
If ios 7 is a big disappointment that may be enough alone to persuade me. Of course the talk of 440 ppi, 1080p and 13 mp camera helps.
 
If they can take all my iCloud, iTunes, and iMessage over to the Galaxy or note series, then I'll switch, but it's not foreseeable for me unless the iPhone 5S bombs, that's why I got the 4S and just kept updating iOS rather than get a new iPhone, that, and the fact that I'm a 16 Year Old teenager :p

Ya I agree. But for people who are using iMessage and taking advantage of it, they would have an iPad or a Mac (otherwise they wouldn't be taking advantage of it ). So they would be able to do the exact same thing. If they forget their phone at home, they can pull up Messages on their computer. And if they are at work without their phone and have their iPad, they can still text people and get notifications just as if that was their main texting device. And that is where I think MightyText falls short.

And let's not even talk about MMS ;-)
 
I am a Nexus fan, liking my Nexus 4 so far. I would be tempted buy the S4, if the battery life on it is crazy better, matching or close to that of the Motorola MAXX line, or Note 2 battery life.

And of course Samsung allowing the phone to be rooted quickly, no BS like HTC and their lack of developer support.

How quick until the S4 has CM10.1 ROM's on it

Problem with whatsapp is that it means your having to use a different application and need the recipient to have whatsapp too. It's just not as graceful a iMessage.

The benefit of iMessage as we have said is that a lot of users are unaware they are actually using it because it is so seamlessly integrated.
 
agreed but that's the problem when you start using something that's proprietary - it may be well integrated but it does mean vendor lock-in.

I know. I'm trying to get out. I purchased my first android (HTC sensation) a while back and I loved it. The only thing I hated was having to get a ton of apps to migrate all of my services together. Even though I got a few apps that I loved, it was the phone that made me go back to iOS. Dust under the screen was a killer for me. At the time my iphone 4 was the best screen. I believe it was laminated to the glass. I purchased I wanted to give android another chance so I bought the Galaxy Nexus. I loved this phone. I would have kept it, but this time apple released iCloud and I loved the options they had in working with my iPad and MBP. I sold it and regretted it. I bought the nexus 4 and have been loving it and wanted to keep it as my daily driver and my iphone 5 as the weekender. But I started to get used to LTE and wanted my iphone back. I like what HTC is going to do to sync iOS with their software, but I like vanilla android. I will wait to see what the S4 brings to the table.
 
Why such a hard-on for Samsung phones? Same specs as everyone else's phones and running Android, most likely not even the latest 4.2.2.

So. Why the borderline worshiping of Samsung phones? And yes, I've had one. It was cheap and flimsy, just like a Dell laptop.

They add a lot of good features that you do not get with stock android. Also the battery life of the note 2 is nutty. It seems like they are actuslly giving people what they want versus telling us what we should want.

What I really want to see is the new xperia phones, but I know nothing about a US release.
 
If I could transfer all my app purchases from iTunes (about $270).

Also if it was just stock Android 5.0 KLP with no Touchwiz or S Voice or other ****** Samsung services.

You just don't get it.

In my experience, the Samsung phones have been the only ones able to make me stay on android for a while before leaving again.

At first I was using iMessage to text back n forth with about 20 people on a regular basis. Mostly family, friends, and coworkers. That 20 has dwindled down to 5. Most have left iPhone for something else and some don't have a Mac or another iOS device. Those that do have a Mac or iOS device, it's much harder to catch them while they are on it vs always having an iPhone by their side. I'll only get iMessages on my Mac/iPad from around 8pm-12am, when they know I'll be on it. Otherwise it's regular text, GV text or Skype message.

As I remember, BBM was the same excuse many gave for not switching from Blackberry. How things have changed.

It's the added features. I will say nothing is as smooth as a nexus device running the latest OS, no matter how much tweaking you do. Until this year (looks like a lot of new good phones from different manufactures), Samsung has really been the only ones delivering a good android experience, aside from the nexus line.

Quality phones - There are plenty of devices out there with arguably better build quality.

Quality features - what features does Samsung add that are so incredible? This has been the one that baffles me....I'd love to hear what features Samsung adds that make it an "innovative" line of phones?
