Would they release CDMA iPhone 5 in June?

If yes, how would they deal with update issues?

If no, Verizon iPhone users would have to wait x months for new iPhone every year?

The way i see it, you just have to look what happened here in the UK when O2 lost exclusivity and Orange & Vodafone released the 3GS in January last year, they then got the iPhone 4 in June, the 3GS still sold lots, and you had the idiots that wanted the iPhone 4 5 months into their existing contracts buying the iPhone 4 at full retail or whatever. The precedent is there, this will not be any different.

Or the CDMA version will always come out 6 months later until a unified iPhone that works on all comes out.

Seriously, the US is not the only place where this situation has already happened, you yanks are just stuck in your little glass bubble and need to realise you're not the only people with the iPhone!

I was thinking about this, and I think what we'll see in June is an at&t iPhone released with a tweaked antenna design, and larger capacity. The Verizon iPhone (vPhone) will also get the larger capacity at the same time. The only other thing that will change is perhaps a faster processor and more RAM, and definitely iOS 5. All of these changes could be integrated into the vPhone without angering early adopter vPhone users.

Did any of them ask at the event regarding white iphone? That would be the only way for me and my wife to jump to iphone at this point.. if not, i will be waiting for june.. and if nothing in june, will wait for 2012...(until world goes away :)

So the vPhone 4 should run iOS 5 with no problems, at least I think so. The AT&T aPhone is surely going to be hurt by this move. Same goes for the spring sPhone and the tmobile tPhone :p

Not likely, I am sure they have thought most of this out only because of the issues surrounding the iPhone 4 release issues last June.

I think the biggest issues VZ will have is Data consumption, and what will they do about Warranty issues, VZ likes to handle all their phones in house, but now they no longer have control, also Apple told AT&T they could not offer insurance, I wonder how that went over at VZ?

You may have asked some of the more mature questions since this was initially announced.

My guess is the June/July announcement of the iPhone 5/iPhone 4S/4X whatever it is called will be GSM only. It may be AT&T and T-Mobile too at that point and that the CDMA iPhone of that version may not arrive until September-October but not January.

In 2012 when the next iteration of the iPhone comes out for LTE, they will need two versions still because while LTE is a common protocol, backwards compatibility to existing networks will still require GSM or CDMA technology in there. But they will probably release both models simultaneously, effectively taking out the lag.

As for the do they Verizon iPhone adopters get burned on the 2011 summer launch by buying now, I doubt it. Much like the 3G to 3GS transition, the iPhone this summer will most likely be a less radical improvement, offering only a few slight changes, with the 2012 model bring a more significant upgrade as did the iPhone 4. It makes sense for Apple and the cycle refresh, especially with 2 year commitments, etc.

like i said, i wouldn't be surprised by the next iteration of the iPhone coming out on AT&T and Verizon at the same time in June, as in the UK exclusivity ended mid-cycle and the carriers started with the 3GS in January and all the people that bought the 3GS then got screwed by the iPhone 4 coming out on the same network 5 months later. why does this have to be any different?
