I think the fruity flavors are done with. Personally, they wouldn't stand out anymore. Besides, the i-line of products has an all white theme. Why would Apple digress and substitute their i-line of white-colored products with variations of colors, again? They may look executive, but I don't think Apple would do this.

Besides, I think you can do this already. Take a snow iMac and paint/polish the sides with whatever color you like. Don't forget about the speakers and the support underneath! :D

yeah, a few people have been painting their iMacs, it looks allright, some of it looks really tacky, though. Painting a case is a pain to do properly, and you have to let it dry afterwards, so your mac is jsut siting around naked (not good for it at all.)

Maybe steve will put on a white turtleneck, to signify the move to an all snow theme.

Oh, and just 1 more thing......

" Our programmers have been working overtime to make OS X all it can be..... In fact you can now install OS X on X86 as well as Power PC, AND you can now run Unix, Linux and Windows Apps directly from OS X when installed on a Macintosh."

(Stunned silence followed by chanting of "STEVE! STEVE! STEVE!")

" In fact..... With the new Architecture of the GX chip and the power of OS X you can now run ANY PROGRAM EVER WRITTEN on your new PowerMac... shipping in August... ahem.."

( SJ gets his water and heads to the Demo table):D

Firewire Video Conference Camera

Seeing as the mac is the hub of the digital lifestyle, my wild prediction is an Apple branded Firewire based video conference camera and software like Net Meeting....

Seeing as our world becomes smaller everyday, and friends and families spread out around the world, I think Apple could develop software and hardware to bring us all closer together.

Remember when MCI had long distance rates that were really cheap as long as you called another MCI customer? The idea was that you would convince your friends and families to switch to MCI so that you could all enjoy really cheap phone calls.

Now I'm not saying that this was a good idea, or that it made them money - but by making the cameras adn developing the software such that it streamed MP4, and was only Mac compatable, it could be a strategy for Apple to get more customers.

Or, they could just develop the software and CODECs for cross platform use, and Apple's hardware would just be sooooo much cooler than the PC's that people might be more inclined to buy Mac.

So, is that off the wall enough?

What if they did bring back the fruity colours? Well, then - how's about FLAVOURING them whilst they're at it? Talk about practical. One sales pitch would be straight out of Willy Wonka -

"...if you get bored, or just need a snack - stick out your tongue and lick an iMac!"

"...available in 5 fruity flavours - strawberries taste like strawberries; blueberries taste like blueberries; snozzberries taste like REAL snozzberries!"

Then again - maybe not...

>(kiwi_the_iwik)"...if you get bored, or just need a snack - stick out your tongue and lick an iMac!"
You must be really bored to say/do that, I see... :D

;)

IBM doesnt make G4s :p

Would it be possible for apple to buy PART of both Moto and IBM? Just the parts that make the proccessors of course. Then they could combine the technology of Moto (Multiple processors, high flops) with that of IBM (software overclockablility, fast bus) and make the altimate proccesor. If possible, apple could pay AMD big money too give them the Athlon architecture.

check this out

on the outside, the titanium object is a cell phone

then it opens up like a clamshell and it becomes a mini laptop with a 75 percent keyboard and mini lcd screen

the os is os x

it has a 5 GB hard drive and one usb and one firewire port

as an accessory, it has an external optical drive cdrw/dvd

small g3 processor 300 mhz and 256 MB or RAM

total price...$500 usd not including hookup and monthly dial up charges

...now that would be amazing...and by 2003, very doable

...a product like that with windows CE exists right now, but apple would easily get the full os x in there since it's not a bloated windoze operating system

and yes, this sub-one pound phenom would be a pda

...an apple macintosh pda phone

During the developer part of the keynote, a representative of microsoft is mauled by a Jaguar that's escaped from back stage while steve's organising using it as a prop for an OS X demo with some local zoo keepers :)

Okay, maybe that's a bit sick but it would certainly qualify as "wildest thing at MWNY" :D

Being of sound mind and Apple(tm) body ...

The wildest thing would be an admission, by Steve, that he has realized that Windows truly is the way to go and that he had signed another five-year agreement with Bill to make OS X look and act like Windows XP.

In the event of such an announcement, I leave all my worldly possessions to the guys hanging around my local Home Depot, looking for work ... now, where's a good place to jump???

<grin>
Fortunately, "wild" is not "probable" and I'm still hoping for a portable device (I won't write the three-letter acronym that evokes eyelikeart's opprobrium, but I'd like a tablet) ....

Well, well, jadam -

Spank my ass and call me a Strawberry.

I thought that Motorola weren't the ONLY developers of the G4 chip. I point to the time when Apple's demand for the G4 outweighed Motorola's supply (circa 2000) - and so they turned to IBM to make up the shortfall. Now, IBM are copper-based G4 chip designers and suppliers in their own right.

In fact, the next generation of G4 chips for portables (and possibly PDA's) might come from IBM, due to their low power consumption and heat emission rate, when compared to the Motorola MPC7455 Apollo.

So there.:D

Wild announcements

1 Ghz iBook

Apple 'Entertainment Hub' - and Airport, ethernet machine with huge HD that records TV shows, stores MP3, rips and burns CD's and acts a file server.

wow, i didn't know that

and all these people are sleeping in each other's beds in my backyard...he he

ibm as400s use risc chips instead of intel chips in their servers which i thought was interesting

MAybe Apple will move from LCD displays to plasma, with a starting size of fifty-two inch wide? Maybe I shouldn't have drank all that cough syrup.

hehe...
250 posts, halfway to my avitar, I feel a sense of acomplishment, and a sense of impatience. Maybe I should make more monkey poop jokes.

Hmmmmm?

That's because IBM makes the G3 chips, NOT the G4. Motorola is being a bastard about releasing the Altivec technology to IBM, or any other chip maker for that matter. THAT is the only thing preventing IBM from making the G4 processor.

IF IBM was also making the G4 chip, we would probably be seeing higher speeds and lower chip prices which could drive down the cost of both the computers, and processor upgrades.

Apple went straight to IBM when Motorola couldn't supply the 500Mhz G4's en masse to Apple around 2000, who in turn supplied the short-fall left by Motorola. Since then, Motorola has adopted the copper chip technology -developed by IBM - for their new MPC7455 G4 chip (codenamed "Apollo"), as opposed to the old aluminium circuitry.

Now, both IBM AND Motorola are manufacturing the G4 chipset. And even though they are part of the Apple-IBM-Motorola (AIM) relationship that have all co-developed the Power-PC processor, they each have their own agendas - IBM's latest is to implement the same system as Apollo uses, with SOI (Silicon-On-Insulator) RISC technology, into the Intel/Athlon world.

All-in-all, it's an absolute mess. I swear if you can make head-or-tail of it all, I'll give you a medal...

What I DO know is that because of this little rivalry between these folks, we get faster processors - and therefore end up ultimately being the winners.:D

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

This is an interesting thread. I would have to say an Apple PDA would the wildest (but not expected by a long shot) product. I think I will add another thing in their. Maybe we can get the Pippin again ! OR! OR! OR! a partnership with Nintendo! LOL LOL That would be funny. But yeah The PDA would be pretty wild, even though we all know it isn't going to be there.

i am also pretty sure there won't be an apple pda at macworld

i mentioned this before, but i swear i heard on abc radio that wintel is going to have a handheld pda with a full version of windows xp on it...which will essentially make the thing a miniature laptop which is too small for the lap

...i wonder if apple could do that sometime in the next couple of years with a handheld computer with a full version of os x on it...that is something i would buy...but the text would have to be ledgible and i wouldn't really mind scrolling so much

wearing a computer, with a full os, on my belt just seems so geeky...perfect for someone like me:p

Microsoft pumps more money into Apple.

As a result, Apple is able to produce this :

The new chip will be shipping in August in the all new Powermac GX in Dual, Quad and Octet models starting at $1999.00. DDR, 333Mhz bus, Hypertransport, up to 4GB of RAM, ATA133 with HW RAID and 4 channels on a daughter card swappable for serial ATA. AGP8x, PCI66 Std, FW2, 2 optical drives std, built in DSL modem and optional Cable/Satellite modem.

Apple's stock goes through the roof. Market share increases to 51%

They are able to buy Microsoft and kill Windows.

:D :D All happening at MWNY? Doubtful.

I would like to see Steve get on a Space Hopper with an Apple logo on the front of it the bounce across the stage where a line of laptops are waiting. They are alternately arranged windows XP laptops and TiBooks. He bounces across them singing "Bill Gates has a small willy", crushing all the laptops as he goes. Then assisants will dash on and hold up all the laptops. The TiBooks will be in perfect working order, while the windows ones will be twisted wrecks of their former selves!

The Steve will pop the space-hopper with a big knife and pull out the new 4Ghz G5 chip, the crowd will chear, women will hold up their first-born for him to scrifice and a troup of naked go-go dancers will wheel on the new G5 PowerMac, which will have changed its name to VeryPowerfulMac to make it obvious to Windows user that there machines are total pants.

To finish Steve will perform a Photoshop benchmark test that is so fast it will distort the time/space continum and mean that Photoshop 7 will work so fast that it can actually predict what you want to do next and will automatically carry out the task before you have even thought of it.

That ought to get some headlines!
