1. Mag safe - Why get rid of this, I have no idea besides to cut costs and then charge us 19 to buy an extension cable. I'm willing to bend over for apple but not get raped! Mag safe also plugs in more effortlessly and has a coo led light that tells you when it's operating and the cable is long enough so that it doesn't need an additional cable. I also don't understand the "convienence" of using USB C charging from multiple ports.

2. Legacy ports - Photographers use SD slot, I would be willing to betthat 90 percent of current Apple users use a USB 3.0 HD. I get that USB C is quicker and the future so why not put 2 USB C ports on the right and a HDMI and USB 3.0 cable on the left. Is that so hard Apple?

3. Glowing Apple logo - Although an aesthetic feature this has been around for so long and in my opinion gave the MacBook pros a high end clean look as well as a mark of distinction. It represented Apple in all its brilliance. A simple light that integrates as part of the Oled panel, takes up no additional power and boots up when the computer does because it's an actual part of the screen. Elegant, simple, premium and doubles up as great advertising for Apple and stands Ly because Apple is about rebelling, being creative and "thinking different." Now the MacBook Pro will blend in with all the "other" laptops. Which may not be a bad thing depending on your preference but personally I'll miss it and hope they bring it back.

Its funny because your list is what I think are obvious choices for the Ax. Magsafe is iffy and has caused Apple issues and personally sometimes it doesn't seem to connect correctly. Its time to move forward on ports. TB3 and USB-C offer endless options. As far as the lit logo it seems dated. Time for something new.

1. I'm happy that the MagSafe proprietary adapter is gone. Now I'm free to choose my USB-C cables, even those with Magsafe-like features. If I damage my cable, I don't have to buy a 100$ power brick again.

2. Large ports like HDMI and USB-A won't fit with the current design without compromising rigidity, and SD slot is too long also. Jony Ive want a thin laptop at a cost of convenience. If you look at the inside of 15" rMBP, there's literally no space for anything left. It's really a big deal now with such obsession with thinness...

3. I'd rather have something functional like a layer for backlight reflection instead of this stupid glowing logo. I wish we could opt for no logo at all.

I understand your points, I'm all for progress and improvement but there's gotta be real value to it.

1. Mag safe has a practical use in the sense that if my baby or dog hits the cable, the laptop won't go flying off the desk. It's also nice to know you've connected to mag safe via a light. Sure it's simple but reassuring and gives it a more premium feel over a and owe laptop. The new USB C charger brings nothing in terms of practicality or premium look and they also charge you 19 extra for an extension cable. Where's the innovation, creativity, progress in that?

2. I'm all for an update on the logo. The only problem is the new one resembles and may use(albeit a high quality most likely) the design that HP and Asus use. Once again where's the progress and creativity that Apple is known for? Perhaps make the Apple logo matte and have it turn glossy when you power up the computer to give it both a modern feel and a touch of the Apple "magic."

For me the problem is Apple no longer has a mid-range Mac with decent specifications at an affordable price. While I could afford a top of the line MBP, the value proposition just isn't there for me. The 13" Air was perfect in that regard.
The strategy seems to me like it's there to aid the iPad, which with the Pro that was announced in the Spring, also had a price rise and so looks like much less value for money to me than it used to.

On the 15", - user replacable SSD/RAM.

Lasers on the side that let you use your hand as a mouse.

Your idea for the logo is cool.

Back in the day Sony had a high end VHS deck That had a green display that turned blue on power up. Even a color shift would be cool.

Kaby...wait, the suitable one isn't released yet

What can they do, retain the prices of last year products. All MBPs should have the touch bar, as OP proposed, the current MacBook should be renamed as MacBook Air, the non-touchbar be renamed as MacBook. Include USB TypeA to TypeC adapter

Fantasy specs:
MBPs screen sizes be upgraded to 14" and 16", the base model of 14" and 16" comes with Intel Iris (the higher spec one) and Iris Pro (for the 16"), TrueTone display, the more expensive model of 14" and 16" will come with Nvidia GTX1060, RAM at 16GB, upgrade able to 32gb.

Actually, I'm not THAT picky. It's not hard to to make me happy so when I finally complain about something, you know there has to be some merit to it. My complaints? They're simple.

1) the keyboard isn't what I wanna type on anymore. And that hurts. I tried one out in store and at a friends house and maybe I could get used to it, but is that really what it has come down to? Forcing yourself to "get used to it" just to have the computer you want? Shouldn't you love everything about your laptop especially something as basic as the keyboard? An apple device (or any device) is something you should pick up and just touch and be able to say "ah yeah. That feels just right". When I type on the new keyboard I immediately want to type on something else.

2) the price. Ya see...this is the thing that I believe caused the MOST uproar. Even if people don't wanna admit it. It is priced so expensively that psychologically, they look for other reasons to hate it. People that don't even use the ports are criticizing it for not having it. And this just bandwagon of hate is formed and everyone climbs on board. But really, if there was no "MacBook without touch bar" and the 13 and 15 started at last years prices, this backlash wouldn't be a thing.

>subset of the price topic, if they would have included dongles in the box. Let's say a small pack that would cover every port you lost. Would you be that upset? Meh.

The new 13inch MacBook with touch bar starting at $1299 would fly off the shelves and be an instant hit. But apple put profits above all else. This company that doesn't NEED this gigantic profit margin as one of the biggest tech companies on the planet, hiked prices for no other reason than because they can. And it's sickening. Because the Steve jobs apple believed if you make a great product and take care of customers, the money followed. With this apple? The new iPad comes out, they slap "pro" on it and charge $100 extra.

Then they leave the other macs in the dust without even word of an upcoming update. And then they try to backtrack a tiny tiny bit after the backlash and discount some adapters (not even by much) and a 5k display and they figure the goodwill from that will ease the backlash. Instead of just lowering the prices on the macs!

Ugh. Ok I'm done

For me it's all about affordability.

My current set-up is iMac, MacBook Pro and iPad Pro. Strictly speaking I only need two of those. Upgrading for the sake of it is now unaffordable, partly because of Brexit (though if the pound recovers I don't trust Apple to drop prices back down). When one of the three dies, I'm no longer certain that I would replace it.

I've also lost confidence in Apple's competence and in its vision. Apple is one of the largest companies in the world: it has vast reserves of cash and can hire the most talented people around the globe. It should be doing better than it is. There is an undeniable streak of greed running through its decisions.

It is no longer unimaginable to me that I may one day leave the Apple ecosystem.

As far as affordability Apple will always be higher end.

This really speaks to me. For those that disregard our complaints as simply "just whining. You people always whine! You whined at the last redesign too and then got used to it". No. this is very different. This is a changing moment in an iconic company to the point lifelong die hard Apple fans are taking notice and saying "ya know what. I love apple but this...this isn't apple. This company is changing into something else".

And I hate it. The keynotes get worse and worse. The passion they once had for their products is gone. It's paint by the numbers marketing speak now. The way they talk on stage and how they use the same words every single time makes them seem like a parody of themselves. Like are they not self aware and realize how ridiculous they sound at times? The last keynote at the very end I was like wow. I can't believe there's a new apple product and I actually don't want it. That never happens

I think Craig is great. They should always have him front and center. Even in interviews He is realistic.

What makes him great is aside from being funny He sucks at lying.

Steve Jobs explain this in an interview:

I know people keep posting this over and over. I think its because people like drama. They like to see failure because it somehow makes their life seem better.

Apple isn't going anywhere. They are super successful. They are the model on what to do right. When we are dead. In my case about 40 years (fingers crossed) they will still be around even if its operating off their insane cash reserves.

Steve Jobs explain this in an interview:

Even though seeing people copy and paste this into threads is getting old, i'll like the hell out of this. I don't even understand how people can say Steve wasn't a visionary. He is truly a once in a generation kinda guy

I had a thought. Have you EVER seen anyone say they didn't like Craig? Ever? Like even when there's a giant "i hate apple" fest, it just doesn't happen. Because he embodies exactly what we think of at apple. Exactly what we want it to be. Its always hard to tell how someone is in their personal life based on keynote presentations, but if i were to cast a general idea:

Phil Schiller: Douchebag in real life. Arrogant to the very end. Business hungry. Cares about technology and products only in so much to get what he wants.

Eddie Cue: Cluelessness. Just pure...winging it attitude. He probably works with smart people under him, but he makes decisions that should have gotten him fired

Tim Cook: Genuinely nice guy, but not a leader. Profit above products. I believe he wants to make good products, but he is part of the problem. Steve Jobs was good at reigning people in that were getting out of control with stupid ideas. Tim is such a nice guy i feel like he lets everyone do whatever the hell they want. He's not the worst choice for CEO, but he does need to change where he's taking the company.

Craig f-i-cant-say-his-last-name-ini: This man is the heart of apple. He gives off a vibe of nerdy nice guy who genuinely cares about making people happy. He isn't full of bs marketing talk. He just talks like a normal person doing a job he enjoys doing. If anything, he seems giddy and excited to share what he's been working on. Almost child like joy. I always love watching him

I honestly think Craig isn't doing more publicly because He doesn't want too. I'm sure Apple sees the appeal. I don't blame him tho I wouldn't want the spotlight either. I'm hoping tho He changes His mind for selfish reasons :)

He seems like a shy introvert. Maybe thats why i like him. Reminds me of me. But with way better hair

To make me enthusiastic again? Do something that makes a difference, rather than just making something different.

What I wanted was a simple refresh of the old chassis with a current CPU, and the new SSD is the one thing I am genuinely enthusiastic about. I see I can't get that, but the new Touch Bar is a useless gimmick that is actively counterproductive to me, as I use the 'esc' key a lot in the software I use. The low end 13" with a proper keyboard might have been a solution, but they ship it with a cripples worse-than-the-outgoing CPU and just 8Gb RAM?

MagSafe seems to be love-it-or-loathe-it, and I have relied on it daily for years. I usually don't have any other devices plugged in, so it is very easy to grab the mac and go in a hurry. It was a distinct piece of Apple flair, and losing it makes the devices less distinctive.

USB C I can live with, as I don't generally plug many devices into my Mac, lucky me - I know that is a minority position. However, I do regularly use it to charge my iPhone and Apple Watch, so throwing a lightning cable and a USB B/C adapter into the box for a $4000 computer does not sound unreasonable. It is this penny-pinching that is souring any feel-good factor. I am supposed to be buying a reassuringly expensive, quality product, and Apple are saying Screw You over the price of a cheap-to-produce adapter. They even took /out/ the flex to connect my power supply, tethering me ever closer to the wall - for a portable computer?

For the current model, the best thing they could do for good will is put some basic (inexpensive) cables and adapters in the box, so my new machine is not useless on arrival.

For the future, don't leave the product cycle so long between refreshes that the expectation on the refresh is more than can ever be delivered. Also, remember that folks buying the top-end devices want some serious compute power, rather than compromising for minimal portability gains. If I want a light, mobile, computer, I can get one - the MacBook 12" is an amazingly light and portable device. The 15" is a different market, and does not value those same compromises - we certainly do want a top-end model that values power over light/thin, for the (majority of) days it spends running on my desk top, plugged into the wall.

This is exactly the same post as all the people on the PS3 forums, back at launch, saying that they didn't want rumble controllers because it was such a "last-gen" feature.

You have completely misunderstood the thing.

I don't care whether Apple is around or not. I care whether the products I want are around or not. I'm not happy to see the products I want discontinued.

The company has no value to me unless it's making a product I want.

Think about it this way: Imagine that next year Apple said "well we've been really frustrated with the operating system thing for a while, so we're switching to Windows, we're just gonna make really amazing super-thin laptops now, and let Microsoft deal with the code hassle".

Would you be happy? Would you still want these laptops more than any competitors? I sure wouldn't.

Come on. Drive it home! Tell the crowd what Sony ended up doing!

They added rumble.

And, here's the kicker: The same people who had been talking about how stupid rumble was, and how they didn't want it, all rushed to post receipts for their international shipping orders of the first few dualshock 3 controllers from Japan.
