If the rumors confirmed for the S8 are confirmed, then I’ll upgrade my S4 sometime by Christmas or early next year. My Apple Watch and iPad are the only Apple products I don’t upgrade yearly.

If it does everything you want, there’s probably no need. I won’t upgrade unless I decide to actually make a change with my watch size or go with SS. I’m happy with how my 7 functions for sure.
Yeah, I still have all day battery life, I get my texts on LTE and it tells me the time. I don't have a need for anything else.

What is the current model/size you’re using?

I won’t be upgrading to a S8 or any other future models because of the likely discontinuation of the Edition models in 45mm size.

I bought my first Ti watch last year which is a S7 SBTi and I love the finish of it. It’s sublime to say the least. I know we are gonna get a Pro Ti series in the next few days but I’m out away by the rumoured size of 47/49mm. For me, I feel comfortable wearing a watch that’s discreet and elegant.

I’ll probably hang on to my S7 until Apple reintroduces the Edition series in 45mm in either Ti or ceramic case finishes.

I’ll be adding the Pro Watch to my collection, actually held off buying the Garmin epix 2 .. if the pro is really not such of a pro I’ll pick up the epix

I think there’s like a 5% chance I will upgrade. But if it has really awesome battery life, it still looks pretty and not just sporty, and yet it does have really awesome features for hiking, etc., I will be tempted.

So you’re considering to go to a S8 or another S7?

It depends on what changes the 8 has to offer vs what kind of deal I could get on a 7 if I decide to go to SS or go bigger.

I might just keep my 41mm 7 and call it a day. That’s probably what I SHOULD do.

I would think the Graphite 41mm S7 look nice on you.

Definitely no interest in the 8. I want better battery life without a special "mode". I'd like to keep my AOD and everything else on. If for some reason the Pro has some really cool stuff, maybe. But I also don't know how much better of a watch my wrist an handle without it looking too large.

If they announce a 49mm (as the newer rumors suggest) I will upgrade. if not, I will wait to see what next year brings.

Still wearing a 5, but if the 8 or 8 pro add cellular bands (specifically Band 71 for T mobile), I'll upgrade. If not, it would depend on what else they roll out. The Pro could be interesting, but if the 8 is just a slightly faster processor, then I would probably hold off another year.

I'm not sure what, if anything, will get me to upgrade this year if the rumors are accurate. I upgraded from 4 to 7 last year, because I was no longer getting 48+ hours out of the battery on the 4. It was barely lasting a full day of normal usage. My plan from the time of purchasing the 4 was to upgrade to titanium Series 8, but because of the battery life, I decided on the 7 as a stop-gap and to get some extra trade-in value for the desired titanium Series 8.

Now that we may not be seeing a titanium Series 8 in the 45mm size or at what I'd consider a reasonable price point, I may hold onto the 7 longer than planned.

Right now, I'm at "won't buy." Things that could make me reconsider if enough boxes are checked:
  • A 45mm Series 8 in titanium
    • Easy flip to "will buy." This is exactly what I planned on buying, and what I want.
  • A smaller version of the rugged watch we've been seeing
    • If in the neighborhood of 45mm and in conjunction with other features, might make me want to purchase
  • Drastically increased battery life
    • I'm happy with the 48 hour battery life I get currently. If the advertised battery life becomes 2-3 days, I'd be very interested. More battery is always desirable.
  • Additional/improved sensors
    • Blood glucose monitor would be very nice to have
    • Body temperature significantly better than current rumors
      • Like most people whose wrists are large enough to support a 45-49mm watch, I have no use case for "cycle tracking"
      • At minimum I'd want temperature trends to potentially indicate illness
      • Ideally, an accurate and reliable body temperature measurement (this would seemingly make more sense as an AirPods Pro feature)
    • Blood pressure monitor
      • unlikely to happen anytime soon
  • Satellite communication, depending on implementation

What would make me upgrade from my Series 7 Hermes edition? It would have to be free!

After buying a new MacBook Pro, two Studio Displays, and various accessories, my lovely wife would strangle me with a USB-C cord if I even suggested buying a new watch this cycle.

I'll see y'all when the Apple Watch series 9 comes out. 🤣

I really hope that the titanium Edition models won’t get discontinued. I really wish that I’d gotten that for my series 7.

If these improvements appear on the series 8, I may upgrade.

- If the battery life gets a great improvement (days and not a couple hours)
- if the frequency of HR readings increase
- if the frequency of HRV readings increase

I was interested some in the Pro model, but I cannot wear a 49mm watch. Even the 45mm watches look too big on me.

I probably will upgrade because I'm not thrilled with the look of my Aluminum Starlight S7, I should have gone stainless or titanium. That alone will probably get me to upgrade. What I really wanted is the new design Pro (I think it looks great in the CAD drawing) and hopefully a slew of needed fitness features (sync to bike cadence and power meter sensors for example) to be announced... the problem is the 49mm size is a non-starter. I was hoping for 45mm and willing to accept 47mm, but there is no way I can pull off a 1.99 inch screen without looking like a clown. We shall see what tomorrow brings but I'm disappointed by the rumors (likely true) that the Pro only comes in 49mm this year.

Went from S3 edition to S5 edition recently and plan to ride it into the ground (unless they bring back the white ceramic at some point, one can dream!)

Exactly:). I’ve got the apple leather band, many different shades of blue bands, yellow sports loop, red bands, white, charcoal, black, etc…. They all work with the stainless steel. That’s what I missed most when diverting to the product red….which I loved too:)
Yep I have a S7 45‑mm Graphite Stainless Steel Case with Sequoia Green Leather Link.
Love it.....will not upgrade until they include a blood pressure sensor.
And I don't notice any weight difference from my S5 aluminium.
