THIS DOESN'T MATTER. It's not that the 2011 iMac isn't a capable machine -- it is. It's just a TERRIBLE VALUE right now for its price. Either a price drop on the existing iMac or a spec bump that maintains prices would have been PLENTY. We didn't need a redesign, though that would be nice. We just needed it to be possible to buy a current iMac again without grossly overspending.

I'll gladly buy the 2011 iMac. For 70% of what they're currently asking for it.

Agree! Totally.
Question is what to do?? I guess I will wait the month for mountain lion release and see if apple will think to speed bump their iMac ( I really can't think of a reason why not).
If no speed bump will occur I guess apple is sending us very clear message, leave the station, desktop line.
Also the "rumor" that no new iMac will come until 2013 is almost 100% sure as apple heard the fans anger after the wwdc and send some "rumor" to the press. So people can stop their waiting and either but now or buy laptop.
( I also think they talked on redesign) I simply can't see apple not speed bumping their iMac line otherwise as you said it will be nuts to pay premium money for old technology.
Apple fans like apple , ok, but they are not stupid.

They specifically left the Mac mini out of the press leak about next year, making me think it'll be refreshed soon. The specs on that should still be good, and it saves me a bunch of money anyway since I already have a monitor.
