its pretty decent right now although firewire may be nice incase i decide to hook up something with a FW connection. Also maybe more speed, although 2.4ghz is still pretty decent..it beats almost any other pc laptop ive seen out there.

-For god sakes get rid of the huge black bezel!!
(I want more cow bell... i mean... more screen)
-Better build quality (this is my 3rd Alu MB)
-Oh and maybe a cheaper price ;)

  • 1440x900 with smaller bezel/footprint
  • obviously Core i7 when it arrives
  • lose the DVD drive - replace the space with large built in battery (like the 17")
  • build a fast 30GB SSD onto the motherboard for the OS (when the price is right)
  • USB3 + WUSB
  • built in 4G Telecomms when it becomes mainstream (whether it be WiMAX, HSDPA or any of its competitors)
  • matte option (yeah, right)

what else would we need?! :)

blu-ray if no dvd lol. some use their laptops as a portable dvd player

I would mind the built-in battery but I hope you can still swap out the hard drive. Hopefully after market external batteries will come to market for people that need extra power.

FW800 should be standard even if USB3 is out. The screen needs to be the same quality as the other laptops.

No DVD drive? How are you supposed to install new versions of the OS, or software from disc? Watch dvd's? Rip music cd's? And whats the point in a built in battery? If it fails then how will you replace it? Or upgrade the power capacity?

I think he means remove it like they removed it from the MBA. It's stupid, but it's a spacious piece of hardware, Maybe apple will release a wireless Superdrive for the macbook, but this would be very inconvenient.

Wireless superdrive? The transfer speed would be rather un-reliable and how would you power it... defeats the point of mobile if you have to drag a CD/DVD drive with you all the time... Plus he only wants to replace it with a battery, whats wrong with where it already is?

I'm not sure, the battery macbooks have right now is rather great if you ask me, On several other Lenovo, HP, Compaq and Vaio laptops its rare to find over a 2hour and 30 minute battery life. I think apple would even kick it up a notch and fill the battery up with a couple more hours of battery life, who knows, Technology changes.

I think people should stop complaining about the battery in total, expesially since it is removable and easily upgradable. Windows laptop batteries suck majorly, I always have to be near a power point.

Also, I think MacBooks should have FingerPrint Scanners... and maybe a touch screen option (not really important)

+1 on fingerprint scanner and people stop complaining.
Personal recognition is one of the coolest things a laptop could have, even voice recognition for login, now that would be pure class.

That's what i'd really like to see, Personal recognition; Isight camera detecting facial structures for login, FingerPrint scanner or a voice recognition login.. sounds like i'm talking about top secret stuff here

I interpreted this thread meaning 'coming generations' = next few years, and yeah, I'm unsure how long optical media has, but hey I may be wrong! Maybe operating systems will be packaged onto USB3 keys in the future? (imagine the packaging cost reduction of that!)

Realistically I think we'll have the current design with it's removable battery + superdrive for a few years yet, I guess I was looking a little too far into the future!

about the USB3 thing, i was reading around a while ago, and apparently apple may start to put their OSX or OSXI install disks onto usb.. strange..

I wouldn't really like to see that on the MacBook, as I can't really see how Apple would implement it, as it seems it would a little clumsy. (Talking about fingerprint Scanner)
I just don't think the majority of people would really want that.
Backlit, faster processor and a better graphics option.

ChrisN

Personally, I think the Processor and Graphics trump Windows PCs already, so upgrading those aren't that big of a priority.
The only things I would really want would be a backlit keyboard on the lower end version, and FireWire:eek:.

Smaller/ lighter and most importantly something built for abuse. (drop ability) Built to be taken on work sites; water & dust resistant
