$1799 ? Maybe two years ago. Today, that's a joke. Pay nearly twice as much without any of the features of laptops that have been out for months ? *amn that's some strong koolaid there.

koolaid? i'm not saying i want to pay 1799 nor do i say it's competitive. it's just a realistic prediction taking apples track record into account. btw: i think the sony vaio that i compare to is also 1800 and up. so my price estimate isn't off by that far.

A little bit of realism and a little bit of wishful thinking for me: :D

CPUs speed bumped
Switch to 9xxx GeForce GPUs

Larger RAM Limit (it's one of the few great things you can do to keep your aging laptop alive)
Magnetic Latch (Apple's great engineers have yet to correct the MBP's problematic latch)
A general redesign, hopefully with better ventilation.
Old keyboard or new MBA keyboard, I don't care - both are awesome!
Switch to 16:9 aspect ratio and all displays should be LED by now.
That glass touchpad with the display people have been talking about: I like that idea very much.
Now that HD-DVD is dead, a Blu-ray drive option would be cool (has never been a priority for me, but if they manage to smoothen all the power consumption kinks, then okay)
A bigger pivot angle for the display.

Space is limited and your plan would call for a 3rd slot.
More likely if they went to 8gb max there would still be 2 slots so it could be 2+2 or 4+4.

Plus, doesn't ram work best when its interleaved or is that not an issue anymore? You need pairs for that.

yes but, with os x it does not affect it that much

I know! Steve'll show us a 0.3" MBP and say: "We have the thinnest laptops in the world and yet it's the most powerful one. How is that possible? Well, you know, Apple always did magic... *little, forced laugh* It's OS X! With our new development, space is no longer a limitation. To show you how it works... we will fit a full-sized BRICK in the less-than-a-centimeter thin laptop!"

... sorry, I know you meant dealing with different capacity dices, but I couldn't stop myself :D.
