the better hosts don't give you huge amounts of space. also customer service should be minutes not 12 hours.

I and my clients are with A Small Orange - great price, great service. If you choose their annual plan on the Tiny package, you will be paying $20. That's not per month, that's per year. Less than $2/month. They have cPanel, php, forums you can install, add-in domains, etc. Incredibly responsive customer service, great uptime.

Use coupon SaveMe5 to save another $5 or Save15off to save 15% in case you decide to go for the bigger package.

I too use Dreamhost.com, and have been a customer for almost 3 years now.

Lightning-fast support and a hilarious monthly newsletter is what really does it for me.

The rest of the features are really a dime a dozen since it's a shared hosting plan, but the support is the best I've ever received (after having done business with bluehost, 1&1, and powweb), and it's ultimately been the tiebreaker for 3 years running.

Yea, the news letter usually gives me a chuckle too, even if the news letter is regularly 3 to 5 weeks behind schedule.

I've mostly been happy with DreamHost, but did have a few days of down time once because of catastrophic hardware failure and it took them a while to copy over the backup archives (at least they had backups). They did compensate for this loss though through free extension of service. They get back to help request in a reasonable amount of time as well and the support people seem to be technically knowledgeable compared to most helpdesk centers.

My biggest draw to them was the diverse amount of features as I like to try out different development ideas. I can even install my own PHP on a shared host for better control of environment settings.

angelwatt - I may have been a subscriber to DH when that outage happened... it was bad. Very bad. The free extension of my plan (without even mentioning it - just bam! extended) was a welcome compensation.

I've been more than happy with Dathorn for a number of years.

Good value, good packages, great uptime and communication and have solved any problems I've very quickly.

The problem with most cheap providers, including Godaddy and webhost4life, both of whom I have used, is that they are fine when everything is ok. Get a problem though, and you will find they just are not geared up to provide support. Webhost4life even turned their phones off when the servers went down. When I suggested this was not good service, they admitted customer service is not their thing in these situations.

They are ok for small hosting needs. But not suitable for e-commerce or commercial applications.

I use JustHost.com. Just about everything is unlimited, lot's of free stuff and it's very inexpensive. Excellent customer service as well. Very responsive. Be sure to look down at the bottom of the home page. There is a "(Secret Link)" you can click on that will give you another 20-50% off.

Good Luck!

ill add a vote for bluehost
they have hosted around 8 domains for me know for around 3 years, never had any trouble, and the support is really quite good.

There are many reputed companies that provide complete web hosting solutions at the best rates. These companies offer the latest Cpanel which is loaded with features to provide complete and best solutions to the customers. Their basic plans start from as low as two dollars per month. On yearly payment, customers get two months free.

Salut Hosting

Hey, Not sure if your still looking to know about a good hosting company but thought i would post on here anyway :)

I signed up to Salut Hosting about 6 months ago. I honestly haven't had any problems with anything. They even helped me set up my emails on my computer as i wasnt as good with computers as i am now :D

I have to say that even though they are not a massive company such as GoDaddy they are 10x better. Better service better support.

Hope this helps someone out there! :D

In the uk I can recommend vidahost, just transferred a month or two ago and the service has been great. I get an answer within an hour (most times within minutes) the control panel is far better than previous host (123reg.co.uk), best decision I made was moving to vidahost.:D
