Agreed, it should be an interesting next couple of years, especially throwing the rumored Apple TV into the mix and how exactly it manifests itself, complements and integrates with existing services and devices, etc. <snip>

Yeah, this is one reason I haven't upgraded to Lion actually - it's touted benefits appear to be more touch / gesture-related, aligning it further with IOS and the use of trackpads and touch screens.*

Would I consider upgrading to Lion though? Still not sure - it's not a priority at least for me right now.
Do yourself a huge favor. You'll save hours of wasted time & great frustration. Don't "upgrade" to Lion... Yet.

Wait and see how it goes as Apple continues to debug & develop it.

I bought a new 13" MBA for the sole purpose of checking out Lion without having to risk my proven, fast & ever so reliable OS X 10.6.8 Macs.

I was really hoping Lion would continue the impressive and enjoyable experience I've had for two decades with Apple. But no such luck. At least thus far. I cannot express how relieved I am that I took this approach.

Since my two primary machines are my Mac Pro & MBP, I'm going to continue waiting and watching Lion. I'd sure like to think that Apple will not muck it up with iOS elements. But since they already have, it's a matter of how much further they will go with the clutter.

Thanks for your opinion and insight, much appreciated. Your experience and comments do not surprise me based on other feedback I've come across, so I think I will indeed hold off for now and observe. Again, with respect to my specific situation, I don't see a necessary need or value in making the move and am fine with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach, as my 4-year old iMac running 10.6.8 is operating perfectly for me!

Your iMac is a wonderful machine. I'd say your in great shape.

I stay very informed & have put my years of Apple experience to good use. When I got the first sign that Apple was about to blend elements of iOS into OS X, I decided to buy all new Macs so as to avoid just this sort of disappointment.

Therefore in 2010 I replaced my 15" & 17" MBP's, my Mac Pro, and bought 11" & 13" MBA's. They're all networked and centered on 10.6.8. While it was a pricey endeavor, I'm well set for as long as I wish to hold out and avoid Lion.

The decision is worth it's weight in gold for me, since I make my living with Macs. :D

Cool, sounds like a solid strategy that has paid off for you. Even more important if it ties into your livelihood. :)
