This makes me excited to possibly get a hand-me-down N7 for messing around, flashing ROMs, having a device outside of the iOS world. And the price will be right: $0.

I enjoyed it the brief time I had it (before returning, thinking I would have a family member's N7 when the Mini came out-- but even if not, I love my iPad3 and would see a mini tablet as a step back for watching stuff)

Yea... Thanks to the crappy Android Ecosystem, all of those tablets are worth about $0. haha I'm kidding! (really though, $5 max!) :D

If you think that's small imagine the other 7" tablets

I think apple did it right by making it 7.9"

Well for movie watching it is actually worse...as the 7" on the other tablets is 16:9 or 16:10 which means there is less letter boxing going on. The actual physical size of the video window is about the same as the 9.7" iPad when letterboxed.

But for everything else, 4:3 is better.

Very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to post them.

The phrase no good deed goes unpunished comes to mind when I read you post

A handful of images gets the point across, 28 is overkill.

Or you can do what I did. I took a blank piece of white computer paper. Found the dimensions for the iPad mini and the Nexus 7 online. Then I marked the dimensions (except for thickness obviously) and then folded to get the height and width of each device. This was just to get a general feel for the devices.

Then I went and tried to see which of my coat pockets the two devices would fit in comfortably. :p

I was going to do the paper thing too, but as I got a ruler ready I decided to see if anything I owned would approximate the size.

And if Jony Ive told us he started from the beginning and determined 6.9" is right then people would also claim "Apple did it right".

I just got my iPad Mini smart cover. This thing looks very small but is far from unusable so many other form factors, shapes and sizes would be equally "right" and equally full of compromises.

Here you go!

Thanks so much! That's the page I emailed you about scaling. Really appreciate it. Looks like reading comics on an iPad mini won't be difficult or annoying at all now I'm REALLY stoked for my mini to get here. Freaking Sandy already delayed my smart cover. Hopefully things will be cleared up in time for a Friday delivery.

Absolutely glad I can help! :)

I am also stoked about it. I was worried about the size of it when I got the cover for it in, but after looking at these my mind is at ease! :apple:

Thanks OP!!! After printing and cutting out the pdf I am even more excited for my new mini to arrive! It is going to be perfect for me!!

Printable iPad mini

I had a couple PM's asking if I could create these in a printable PDF so here they are. I made all images available in black or white and in portrait or landscape. When you print them, they will be the exact size of the iPad mini (I checked with my smart cover)! ENJOY!!! :D

Thanks!

Thanks, OP this was a good idea and damn intuitive. I read comics so this was the perfect way to know, in advance, as to whether or not this model would be useful for me.

Wow - this gives it a whole new concept of scale. Tiny ! Dare I say "Cute !" ?

Preserving detail

As well as showing the scale of the iPad mini this one should also preserve the 1024x768 image detail when viewed on a 3rd gen iPad.

I used bicubic scaling to mitigate as much blurring as possible.

Awesome! Thank you. This is almost making the wait more painful! haha

When my cover came in this morning, I showed it to my wife and she said "are you sure you're going to like such a small iPad"? I told her, I guess I would see on Friday. If I don't like it, I will return it and get an iPad 4. Either way, I'm getting a new iPad. My old iPad 1 is really showing it's age. Safari crashes a lot plus Pages and Numbers are excruciatingly slow.

I've had the same issues. Last time safari crashed I was pissed and my wife said "why don't you just use the computer instead?" I said "because the iMac doesn't work from the couch!" Hahaha

There you go. Plus you got the thickness aspect as well which I didn't. Guess I'm not as sharp as you. ;)

Wow if it's gonna look that unsmooth, I might just have to stick with a retina iPad.

Thanks!
I live in a remote area and won't be able to get my hands on the mini soon to try it out so this gives a nice impression. And it's definitely not a retina display...
Wasn't able to read one word. Pitty ;-)

It isn't going to look the same. We took a screenshot, scaled it, saved it as another image, and then your iPad scaled it... It wont look that crappy. This was just to see the scale of things.

The DVD box is all well and good, but...
I was wondering if it will fit in my back pocket, A dvd box does.
So is it EXACTLY the width of a dvd case or similar?
