IT IS CONFIRMED! A friend of mine works as a student in an apple store here in belguim. He told me personaly that the store just ordered NEW powerbooks, he wasn't suppost to tell anyone. I hope he isn't reading this right now, he would be very pissed I guess. What the update will be they don't know, but by tuesday or wednesday the new PB should arrive, seems like my waiting finally paid off. Now come on and bitch about my bad belgain spelling, you can't ruin my day ! Cause in a week I wil have a brand new PB 17" on my lap. JIIIHAAA ! :D :D :D

*nods*
Good for you. I'm happy for you...really.
And you know what, whatever your native language is, I'm sure that none of us "native english speakers" could write/spell it properly either.

*laughs* And I must say, this is one of the funniest threads I've ever read.
I especially liked the post suggesting paxil to the obsessive perfectionist. God, I've never laughed so hard.

a few points to note:

1) the people who you refer to as "mac idiots" will be building your hardware. bare in mind also that they have designed and managed it, and the products are loved and people buy them, so i doubt that any of them have low IQ's.

2) it takes time to design and implement a new product, what is the point in releasing a overclocker's bodge job? they need to get it right, and this is what makes people buy.

3) since the student engineering software is fairly limited for mac, i would go with windows:eek:. i have not met one engineer at this university (yet) who uses OS X, or any mac in general. dont get a mac for the sake of it, there isnt a point if you cant use it, especially for something as important as a degree (90% of my friends are engineers of some sort). you should be able to spell the name of your course at least.

4) this thread, although a good read and very entertaining in times of turmoil for the bored mac users waiting PATIENTLY for updates, is a complete waste of everyone's time. all you have to go on on this website are rumors, no one knows better than anyone else, as employees of apple are not allowed to post here on pain of termination (of job:D).
this website is to discuss......there are dozens of threads on this already, and frankly, i, like many others, are getting tired of it. post in those threads! use the search!

wow. that felt better:D (blows smoke from barrel of gun, having just fired 4 shots from said gun. :D

I'll just fire a few shots back,
1) Don't be so serious!!! If I call them idiots, that doesn't mean they are actual idiots! Have a sense of humor, without it you won't live long.
2)Many of my professors use macintosh, it depends on what you need, they work more with maple, matlab and mathematica then anything else. These are the programs that I will be using aswell.
3)That ingeneer was just a stupid type-o, because in my language it's called "een ingenieur" , so that's probably why I replaced the "e" with an "i".
4)I agree with you that it was a post for wasteland, BUT.. Didn't we all have a very good laugh, I know I did, I've read it many times by now, and I still laugh like hell every time...
Nice arguing with you :D

Actually it is not next Tuesday this time. It is Next Wednesday. October 12 to be precise.
I'm predicting we won't be seeing PB updates on Oct 12. Perhaps the 19th?

I'm sorry but I don't understand your statement, you allready know that the PB wasn't updated the 12th of october, since today is the 15th of October.
Perhaps you are an ingeneer :D :D , that would explain a lot.
And if you had read my post you'd know that it is allready confirmed that they will come out on the 19th.
But perhaps I am making an ass of myself and you're just playing with me. In that case : What the hell are you doing??
This is a weird post, I'm gonna bail out right know

so what is wrong with the current PB? does all that.

Also, nobody is forcing you to buy a Mac, buy a PC if you are going to be happier

Also there is no Autocad for Mac (there are many CAD programs but not Autocad by Autodesk at least the last time I checked).

I know engineers that use current and older Macs...you don't need the next mac to do it and after the next mac there will be another next mac, so you could wait forever.

What's wrong is that it is now 8+ months old, last updated on January 31. A computer that old should be taken into a field somewhere and shot like an old dog, not peddled for $2000-$3000 as the pro-line. What's wrong is the price-performance ratio has been in the toilet since even before January 31: mediocre processors, absolutely awful GPUs, dim displays, need I go on? Obviously the processors are the reason Apple is going to Intel, but no effort's been made to compensate for that deficiency in other areas. No larger/faster hardrives available as a BTO option, no ATI 9800 (which is already outdated) available as a BTO option. On principle I refuse to pay that kind of money for tech that old. Maybe that will finally change next week, we'll see. But with the PB we've generally gotten benign neglect. Lifeblood of the MR forum indeed.
