Regarding an external speaker...
Sounds like a third party option for those who would like this option.
Why is this always relegated to a third-party? Maybe "external" is the wrong word. How about "real internal speaker like the iPhone"?

why not just buy an iPhone then?
Apple has to segment the market or else it won't sell any phones, just iPods.

Because an iPhone costs 6 times the cost of an iPod Touch*, yet adding a speaker would cost Apple probably less than $5 per unit. Why should I have to shell out over $1400 just for a built-in speaker?

*costs
8GB iPT=$300,
iPhone=$1840.00 ($399+(24mos X $60)

Not only that, but what about the people that live in areas where AT&T doesn't provide good enough cell coverage to get an iphone. I would love to have an iphone but the signal where I live (NH) isn't very good. I've been carrying an ipod and a Verizon cell phone for years now. I'd like to replace my 2nd Gen ipod with an ipod touch and it would be nice if it had the same features as the iphone, less the actual phone.

Im not sure if it has this or not, but I was thinking perhaps a sleep timer.
you could set an X amount of time before it stops playback and goes into sleep mode or whatever, if your listening to it on your headphones or plugged into a stereo and you have it selected on random/shuffle through alot of songs and are just trying to relax and get to sleep.

not sure how useful itd be, but might be a decent addition.

You know, I was positive my Touch had a sleep timer. I searched for it after reading your post and sure enough there doesn't seem to be one. I also own a Zune and a Philips and a Samsung player. The Zune doesn't have a sleep timer either, but both the Samsung P2 and the Philips SA5245BT do. Both let you choose 15, 30, or 60 minutes. The Samsung adds 90 and 120 minutes, and even has an alarm timer. I love my Touch, but with the bluetooth connections it has, and both sleep and alarm timers, the Samsung is a more useful music player.

Exactly! Why would apple want to sell you an iPod touch for $300 when they can sell you an iPhone for nearly $2,000? They're never going to add an internal speaker to the touch (other than the tiny one already there).

logical

The only feature I see possibly coming to iPod touch (aside from cosmetic changes) would be side volume controls. If we're really lucky, speakers.

Yes, STEREO speakers please !
Microphone is a must + if they want to get into the pro market- mic.-line in - input jack bundled with the appropriate software.
Volume control at the side .
"N" wifi -

And one more thing, :apple:
you surely have the knowledge and the hardware to cope these machines with the ability (some more MB full of USB drivers) to just read and write from USB- storage - THAT one would beat the market for sure!

I do welcome pralines and car keys as presents :D

It does have a sleep timer!!!

The iPod Touch does have a sleep timer...

Go to Clock - Timer

There's an option that says "When timer Ends Checkmate >"

Instead of the sounds select Sleep iPod

This way you can put your iPod to sleep ranging from 1 min to 23 hours and 59 minutes.

P.S. This is my first post, hello everyone!
