Next step:

Separate "iTunes" following the "iBooks" model and use "iSync":
- Move "Movies" and "TV" to iMovie, including their respective stores
- Port "AudioBooks" to "iBooks"
- Keep "iTunes" for "Music" (possibly iOS Apps or port them to the "Mac App Store" as well)
- Revamp "iSync" to become the syncing conduit for iOS devices (as it once was and is still baked into macOS)

Windows users can still use the "iCloud Control Panel" for syncing Contacts, Email, Calendars, etc with "MS Office", "Photo's" with folders, and Music and iOS Apps with iTunes.

Should Apple want to give Windows users a "taste" of Apple's systems, perhaps produce "Photos", "iMovie", etc. for a small price. This would finally break down the massive amounts of data that has stifled iTunes while allowing a more organized and streamlined macOS and iOS interface.

iPhone 7 plus here and I have the Videos app still. It was on a newly created second page of apps, but it was there with a feedback app.

Maybe some people have the app still??

Videos - The Videos app has been removed from iOS entirely in the United States and replaced with the TV app. The Videos widget, introduced with iOS 10.1, has also been removed, but there is a replacement TV widget that's been available since beta 2. In countries outside of the United States, the Videos app is still available.

Exactly where I thought this was headed. The TV app is the AppleMusic counterpart for videos. Soon, they'll be able to get rid of iTunes. TV shows and movies in the TV app, music and music videos in Apple Music, home videos and photos in the Photos app. The Videos app has been made redundant and soon so will the iTunes App once Apple either allows music purchases in AppleMusic for non subscribers or goes all streaming.

I don't have the videos app on my 7 Plus anymore, just TV.

What I do still have is the annoying animation glitches when going to the home screen or the app switcher while inside an app.

I guess I can use it for netflix and amazon prime, but haven't checked, but until direct tv is supported in this app I am really disappointed. Out of that like 4 days of wasted life, or at least it seemed that way, all I cared about was being able to lay down for bed and open up one app and see what show I left off on and which I feel in the mode for. Now, direct tv isn't supported and half the apps that I have through direct tv aren't either.

Apple today seeded the third beta of iOS 10.2 to developers, introducing some notable improvements to the new "TV" app that was introduced in the second iOS 10.2 beta.

As can be seen in the video below, the TV app is more fully functional, with support for the "Up Next" feature that keeps track of what you're watching across multiple devices. TV has now completely replaced the former Videos app in the United States, which has now been eliminated.

Here's a full list of changes that can be found in iOS 10.2 beta 3:

SOS - The SOS functionality that allowed users to call emergency services by pressing the power button multiple times on the iPhone has been removed in this beta. According to Apple's release notes, SOS is currently only available in India, perhaps for testing purposes before a wider rollout.

Messages - There's a new "Send With Love" Screen Effect option in Messages that sends a heart along with a text message.

TV settings - In the Settings app, there's a new section for the TV app. It allows users to choose whether to use cellular data for playback and choose the streaming quality over Wi-Fi and Cellular. There's also an option to choose whether to make purchases and rentals from the store in HD or SD.

TV functionality - The TV app now supports the "Up Next" feature that keeps track of the television shows and movies you're watching, saving your place or recommending next episodes across multiple devices.

Videos - The Videos app has been removed from iOS entirely in the United States and replaced with the TV app. The Videos widget, introduced with iOS 10.1, has also been removed, but there is a replacement TV widget that's been available since beta 2. In countries outside of the United States, the Videos app is still available.

Apple has only provided the third beta of iOS 10.2 to developers today, but will likely make the new features available to public beta testers later this week.

Because Apple has promised a December launch for several of the features in iOS 10.2 (including Single Sign-On and the TV app), the update could be officially released during the early weeks of the month.

Having your personal videos stored in the Photos app is still dumb and another example of the usual Apple stubbornness refusing to be more logical.

Now they are removing the generically-sounding Videos app you could modify somewhat with your own content and replacing it with TV (no movies allowed!), which is even an even more useless description if you never use your device for TV.

Might as well be forced to store all your PDF documents in a Books app ...

The TV app is absolutely worthless.

  1. Limited Channel Support
The TV app doesn't support HBO, PBS, or any other channel I watch, other than Showtime. The entire premise for this app is invalid if it doesn't work for the channels people actually want to watch.

  2. No Personalized Show Tracking
The TV app only tracks TV shows watched on a particular cable subscription account, without any way to differentiate between different viewers within a given household. This isn't rocket science. Netflix figured this out years ago.

  3. Unwanted Promotional Content
Aside from the fact that the app fails to deliver on its main premise, that feature is further clouded over by the clutter of promotional garbage littered all across the app. Featured shows and movies I purchased years ago which I have no intention of watching again. Featured shows and movies that Apple and its partners want me to buy or rent. Featured shows and movies that Apple's partners want me to watch, even though I have zero interest in watching them. This is precisely the sort of junk I was trying to avoid when I cut the cord and returned my cable box years ago. I expected an app tailored to my needs and wants. Instead Apple tries to sneak in a bunch of advertising.
This is almost as disappointing as the Apple TVs much ballyhooed Universal Search, which to this day doesn't work with Plex or most other third party apps. That, on top of the fact that their "Home Sharing" content still has the same crappy 10 year old user interface.

I guess I can use it for netflix and amazon prime.

Neither Netflix nor Amazon Prime are supported. Nor are HBO, PBS, Hulu, or most other channels.

Hulu is supported, as is HBO Now, I was prompted to approve linking both upon first launch of the TV App -- shows from both show up in it, and can be launched from within the TV App. Earlier today CBS updated their app with TV App support, and I was prompted to approve linking it after I installed the CBS update.

It's up to the developers to hook their apps up with the TV App, as it's still in beta it's not surprising that more networks aren't present.

It isn't meant to be an intuitive move... it's meant as a business move, as is the norm these days.
Not that I disagree... but why TV? It contains movies, video clips, home movies, tv shows, music videos...

Isn't that what the iTunes Store is for? Apple execs can't be this goofy.

They're looking for more ways to boost revenue, especially as hardware starts to stagnate.

You only go to the iTunes store when you're looking for something (which may not be that often). But if they put the store into the Videos app, then you'll have all this content advertised to you all the time.

It's all about pushing content.

Anybody not like the interface?

It reminds of Apple Music UI and I think it is sucky with everything seeming Playskool simple and oversized.

It is hard to get the overview from smaller icons as before because the program icons are so high seems like two fill the screen. If one has a lot of content, big icons are impractical for gaining an overview.

Send with Love. Awesome.

Now fix my battery drain and percentage meter freezing, Apple. I know you're busy coming up with cute emoticons and new ways to sell us services but my iPhone 6S Plus can't get me through the day anymore after iOS 10.

I guess this is probably the same executives that thought putting ads in the App Store was a sweet idea. That's right Apple, keep hurting the user experience to make a nickel.

I'm hoping that because it's early beta, they haven't finalized the UI and it'll improve before release. As-is, it's confusing to wade through. It's a lot easier to just use the network or streaming-service app -- going into TV App and sifting through all the junk seems like an unnecessary and time consuming extra step.
