It would be nice to scroll through video like on my nest cams this only recording what it thinks is activity is annoying to say the least
I have a four Hue bulbs, a switchable receptacle thing to turn on my outdoor Christmas lights, a few Caseta switches/dimmers, an ecobee thermostat, and a Yale Assure lock.So if I understand the Siri Third Party Accessory integration, you need a HomePod to act as a sort of hub? WTF? What is going to be the motivation for companies to integrate Siri if their customers are just going to get bent when their new device "doesn't work" when they try to talk to it because they don't have a $99+ hub? HomeKit is such a disjointed mess.
I think that is great that it has worked quite well for you, I really do. But what does this have to do with Siri Third Party Accessory integration that you were replying to? I guess you are assuming that it will be flawless as well? I really hope so, but my question about how it will play out with a required HomePod still stands.I have a four Hue bulbs, a switchable receptacle thing to turn on my outdoor Christmas lights, a few Caseta switches/dimmers, an ecobee thermostat, and a Yale Assure lock.
Literally the only accessory that has ever given me the "not responding" prompt is my son's Hue bulb because he learned that if he turned the lamp off at the switch, the fade-in lighting wouldn't wake him up.
HomeKit has been flawless for me.

It addresses the "homekit is a disjointed mess" comment. HomeKit has worked flawlessly for me, using accessories from Lutron, Yale, Hue, and ecobee. What is going through your head when you make a comment like this? Do you imagine people like me are simply liars who, for some bizarre reason, enjoy making up stories on the internet?I

Why do you assume I have limited use cases? I never specified what my setup is except for the brands. What is going through your head when you make a comment like this? Do you imagine people like me are simply liars who, for some bizarre reason, enjoy making up stories on the internet?
More likely, surely, is that it is great HomeKit works for you, but that mainly shows that you use it in a very limited way.
- how many Automations do you use?
- how many HomeKit hubs?
- have you ever replaced a HomeKit Hub?
- do you use HomeKit together with Shortcuts?
etc etc
Even something like ecobee I call BS. I have an ecobee, and it's great. BUT it is a fact of life that maybe once a month is disappears from HomeKit visibility (displays as red Unavailable) for about a day.
You won't notice this if you don't try to Automate ecobee through HomeKit, but it is there, it is real, and it varies depending on the ecobee firmware. (Ecobee 3 went for over a year without displaying the problem, then was really bad for about two months, currently it's at "once a month for a day" sort of level).
And your experiences (it works for your limited use cases) are irrelevant to those of us complaining about things like no logging, no error messages (or do you imagine there is some secret logging mechanism that you know about but we do not)?

I have lutron and hue hubs. I have two HK hubs: a HomePod mini and AppleTV. I use several automations including wakeups and lights on/off at set times. I don't automate my ecobee through HK, but I do quick changes through Home.
I suspect you just have ****** wifi. I have a Ubiquiti access point in a hall closet that's central to my entire house so I have great coverage.
Let's accept your claim of lousy WiFi (even though you do know Amplifi is Ubiquiti, right?)So I guess we're even. HK works for me, so I must have limited use cases. HK doesn't work for you, so your wifi sucks. And just because you have a mesh router and extender doesn't mean you don't have ****** wifi.
The same company that makes Maserati Quattroportemakes the Chrysler Pacifica. Ubiquiti is a pro product. Amplifi is not.Let's accept your claim of lousy WiFi (even though you do know Amplifi is Ubiquiti, right?)
That doesn't change the fact that HomeKit's non-existent logging and error-reporting don't make this clear to any users!
They don't change the various complaints being made by people like me.
IF there is a large pool of people for whom HomeKit works badly, isn't it Apple's job, after 7 years of this, to provide data to the user so that they can figure out the cause of the problems and do better?
I've found Ring incredibly easy compared to many other automation systemsI honestly prefer Ring over this Homekit stuff. For some reason none of this stuff seems too appealing to me.
It’s the same with HomeKit and third party devices. Just scan a code. Not all HomeKit accessories require a hub but if they do, the hub has the code on it. Philips Hue for example. My Hunter ceiling fan is an example of an accessory that does not require a hub and connects direct to HomeKit with a code.I've found Ring incredibly easy compared to many other automation systemsJust added a several smoke/CO2 detectors in under 5 minutes (most time was spent physically installing them), integrating with the Ring platform was as simple as scanning the QR code (that was about it). It'd be nice if there'd be some direct integration with Apple services without having to use a 3rd party's bridge device, though they (Ring) did say it would be forthcoming (like 2 years ago). I suppose it's an Amazon v Apple issue 🤷♂️

By the way, unless Matter changes anything, I think it safe to assume Ring will not becoming to HomeKit (Besides using HomeBridge). Check out the date of that Tweet lol. Little more than two years ago.

I’m excited to see what Matter bringsYes, 2 years ago, noted that... Not expecting anything to be forthcoming, but happy with the Ring setup and looking forward to the increased integration with various devices.

Had the first Ring Pro (wired) and this was the reason I left Ring. I wouldn’t get anything until the person was already walking away, about 50’. Sometimes they’d be in their car already.Ring's big camera problem is TERRIBLE latency...
I agree that they're easy enough to use, and nicely stable. But the FW is badly designed, with you seeing the battery saving latency to save energy, even when the device is hardwired into mains electricity. This is just dumb and ruins the experience.
This definitely hasn't been our experience, not sure why it varies, but to date we've been pretty satisfied with the Ring setup vs other options we'd looked at (or owned in the past). I guess YMMV 🤷♂️Had the first Ring Pro (wired) and this was the reason I left Ring. I wouldn’t get anything until the person was already walking away, about 50’. I have the exact same problem with my Ring doorbell. I want to ditch Ring for something else as well. Preferably something that natively works with HomeKit and doesn’t phone out a company’s servers. I think the Logitech Circle View Doorbell fits what I want.Had the first Ring Pro (wired) and this was the reason I left Ring. Just picked one up (Logitech Doorbell) today actually while I was getting a new front door/framing installed to go with it. Been using the Nest Hello with Starling for the past year but since HKSV released unlimited cameras in iOS 15, I couldn’t resist. Don’t get me wrong, Nest with Starling is absolutely butter! Zero complaints with that setup and Starling’s support team is aces but I wanted a one stop shop to view all my feeds and recordings.I have the exact same problem with my Ring doorbell. Absolutely agree 💯. Definitely get what works best for you. It very well could’ve been the stone face on my previous house blocking the Wi-Fi signal. However, by the time I moved a year and a half ago, I was already deep in the HomeKit platform so Ring wasn’t even an option for me anymore. I refuse to complicate my life with HomeBridge lol. HOOBs looks enticing though. This definitely hasn't been our experience, not sure why it varies, but to date we've been pretty satisfied with the Ring setup vs other options we'd looked at (or owned in the past).
