I hope Apple doesn't increase the physical size of the iPad Mini. That possible 8.7" screen is concerning. I'm not sure Apple can shrink the bezels enough while keeping the same physical size.

Ok, well there’s one. I’ll promise you that well over 99% of M series iPad users don’t.
How many % of Mac users push their Macs to the limit?
And iPhone users?
(I understand we don’t have these numbers and these are guesses)

My guess is the vast majority of users of all these devices don’t push them to the limit. If so, should Apple then not improve any hardware?

Also what specific function(s) added to iPadOS from macOS would make it benefit from upgraded hardware? Isn’t it more the apps than the OS that benefit from better hardware? So isn’t the onus more on developers to bring more apps and more powerful apps? And wouldn’t apps specifically designed for touch be better than shoe horning desktop apps not designed for touch?

I want a mini with a 9 inch screen, smaller bezels, 120hz, Face ID, Touch ID and A19 pro! That would then give us a 9, 11 and 13 inch iPad. Each model jumps by 2 inches.
No thank you to 9”. If anything, I’d like the Mini to go back to 7.9” or smaller—easier to hold. And bezels are helpful, so I’d like to keep at least the top and bottom (in portrait orientation).

I want a reason to get an iPad Pro but it’s so limited by its OS. I would 100% replace my MacBook Pro with one if it could run macOS and I could use the pencil to write on things. One device to do everything for me. I used to have a Surface Pro and I loved it, just didn’t love how little Windows and Android worked together. An iPad Pro running macOS would be an unstoppable device. And I suspect that’s why they won’t do it. Because then people like me would only buy one device instead of two.

The problem with going smaller is that UI affordances in iPadOS (some splitviews etc) break down at those sizes, especially when text size is adjusted for accessibility.

I'd be fine with it if it means the screen gets closer to 4:3 again. They could even make the bezels slimmer on two sides like the Home-button design did.

I’ve got an M3 Air, there’s no point in putting an M4 or 5 in the next one because the OS can’t even push the hardware in it. Until they put some touch version of macOS on these iPads I see no point in upgrading.
Have you not been on MR lately or other tech sites? IOS 26 will potentially push the hardware on your iPad Air M3 much further for sure, to the point where people will start complaining about only having 8 GB RAM.

The 7.9" mini was 1:1 a shrunken-down 9.7" iPad, exact same pixel count just with smaller pixels. That approach worked fine for almost a decade. I also remember jailbreaks making splitview and slideover available on the iPhone 6 Plus and people using that.

Time to replace Tim—he missed the AI wave and doubled down on “nobody cares” goggles. A rerun of Ballmer, who missed mobile.
Investors who are laughing at their bank account will surely say no. So does Apple’s board.

The society is too good at preventing the worst from happening. We should just let Apple enjoy their triumph while it lasts and face the consequences along should things go wrong.

Is it silly to add an option into cart or appstore, just like when I opt out of buying final cut pro, add option “MacOS”, for a price.. nevermind 99$ ?? Why not or how to do this then. So many lines were written about macOS on iPad. Do you see this Apple Sales ? Sorry for my english. Have a nice day.
Edit: with Family Sharing 😁

Think for the next versions of all the iPads, they will all be minor chip upgrades. As for the iPad Pro, probably the M6 version will have smaller bezels. Would like to see colors for the Pro model. Will be good if the RAM on the Pro models are increased to at least 12GB for the 256 and 512 variants.

My daughter, who does drawing and animation, would disagree. She stresses her iPad to the limit regularly.
And me who plays games and feel the stutter and lag frequently enough to be annoying.
Granted mine is M1 iPad Pro but saying processor bump is not needed is the same as that infamous “we have enough RAM already” back in I don’t remember 1970 or 1980.

Hello, sorry for nagging, i am playing TW:Empire on M2 and its fine. No Mans land or Cyberpunk on “base” Mx are rather challenge to play. Despite how Mx devices are good, for medium to higher performance games we need cooling, thus macbook Pro. I do not like ventilators. What do you think?
Edit: macmini, ventilator adds another step towards performance, next step is Mpro, total price overkill for me.

I’m starting tog get pissed off by the way Apple is slowing down innovation so much that the only thing we get each year is a minuscule upgrade to the camera. It’s not ok!! Since 3Gs I upgraded my iPhone every 2 years. With my iPhone 14PM it’s the first time I’m on my third year. The 16 pm was so boring and lackluster I hope they will do something amazing with the 17 PM. If not I’m voting with my wallet.

I wouldn’t expect an iPad Mini 8 until late 2026 or 2027 at the earliest.

I’d love a Mini Pro with OLED and FaceID, but I doubt that will ship as well.

Me, I am happy that they keep releasing Minis. The 6 and 7 look the same, but the extra RAM on the 7 has been a nice improvement for me.

The best way these to vote with your wallet is to stick with what you got and not buy something new, from any company.

Phones have plateaued. A new iPhone, or iPad, is about as exicting as a new washer. It's interesting for five minutes, but then you're washing your clothes ame as before. Personally, I'm happy that I can now keep my phones for 4 years or more without an issue.

I kind of agree but the technerd in me is screaming at the lack of innovation :D From iPhone X it’s been practically the same iphone.

I am to eagerly awaiting an iPad mini pro. The competition gets it and there are several in the market now with those specs. But Apple is being lazy.

Should the hardware cater to the software? Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

Plus split screen and Slide Over are very useful on the iPad Mini. It may be too small for heavier multitasking, but if so then Apple could exclude those specific iPadOS features that don’t make sense on the smaller screen, like they did before, or they could just include it for users who want to use it anyway. I personally agree it’s too small for the heavier iPadOS multitasking, but even the 10-11” iPads are too small or barely big enough in my opinion, so I don’t think making the Mini screen slightly bigger would really help with that. At the suggested 9” I think the entire device would get slightly bigger though, which would only achieve in chipping away at the Mini’s identity and purpose, which is to be small and portable. Why conform it to be more similar to models that already exist? Shouldn’t it lean into what makes it unique and thus gives it a reason for existing?
