I am to eagerly awaiting an iPad mini pro. The competition gets it and there are several in the market now with those specs. But Apple is being lazy.
It may be laziness or it may just be too small of a market for Apple. Making a Mini Pro would increase the price, which would shrink the target market.

Give me a reason to buy an iPad.

My phone does everything exactly what and iPad would. I want an iPad but when I look at the reasons for use, there is almost none. Can’t wait for iPadOS26. If it does work more like a Mac will reconsider buying an iPad.

They will eventually stop supporting the OS and you'll have to either forego security patches or buy a new one. Or they'll just make the old ones unusable like they did with the last supported Intel Macs.

Ha, yes, but I was talking about upgrading to the products mentioned above, not five years from now.

How many % of Mac users push their Macs to the limit?
And iPhone users?
(I understand we don’t have these numbers and these are guesses)

My guess is the vast majority of users of all these devices don’t push them to the limit. If so, should Apple then not improve any hardware?

Also what specific function(s) added to iPadOS from macOS would make it benefit from upgraded hardware? Isn’t it more the apps than the OS that benefit from better hardware? So isn’t the onus more on developers to bring more apps and more powerful apps? And wouldn’t apps specifically designed for touch be better than shoe horning desktop apps not designed for touch?

You 100% miss the point. Youve got desktop processors, powerful ones, in a tablet that is running a variant of a phone os. They could just as easily put a18 Pro in the iPad Pro and air and few would notice.

Gee, I don’t know, maybe the ability to actually do “pro level” type things with a full OS on that desktop class processor? You’re way in the minority.

Have you not been on MR lately or other tech sites? IOS 26 will potentially push the hardware on your iPad Air M3 much further for sure, to the point where people will start complaining about only having 8 GB RAM.
Believe it when I see it. I have the beta and feel no difference in performance.

They really, really need to upgrade the iPad mini display in the next refresh. Pushing it to 2027 would be a mistake.

8.7inches is getting a little too large for the many, but that’s probably my personal preference.

8.7 inches for the mini would be great if the screen size increase comes from smaller bezels. As opposed to a bigger device.

You didn’t answer any of my questions and only repeated your idea (which I fully understand).

You sound like an attention seeker rather than an expert on the topic when making such a sweeping statement.
I’ve owned and bought five for family members. Their access to software is drastically limited. The screens have never been very good. Yes, they’re cheap - but I’d have been better buying them used iPads instead.

I am pretty sure the larger majority of users of macs with 8gb of RAM are stressing their machine to the limit because of the limited ram. You will not realise it but your ssd will be constantly stressed out by the heavy memory swapping.

Well thats actually positive then, you cant really knock Apple for developing ipad os 26 from the ground up to be efficient in its use of the hardware.

Doesn’t appear as though you did.

Yes, I answered your questions in one response. Why would I write 5,000 words listing all specifics when your mind is made up and I’ll not be able to convince you? Hmm? You, unlike most others, are content with iPad relegated to a toy, but a lot of people would like at least the option to purchase or install os on an iPad that has capabilities to run Mac apps.

15" iPad Pro, TWO usb-c ports.

Apple will never do it, will they? They should make a 15" version to replace the AirBooks with iPad Pros. Tim doesn't trim.

I agree. The concern is Apple Premium Pricing, any excuse to slap on a big price tag.

My iPad mini 7 is quite useable, but between the mundane display and other unremarkable characteristics it’s nothing special.

Yet like many others I’m guilty of repeatedly buying more Apple products :)

Answering my various questions “in one response” by simply repeating yourself isn’t answering my questions, unless the answer you’re trying to communicate is “I refuse to think about your questions”. That’s perfectly up to you, but to be clear, that’s not actually answering my questions.

How do you know you can’t convince me? I don’t know who the person you’re projecting onto me is, but I don’t dig my heels in and shut out reason. You won’t convince me by just repeating yourself, that’s for sure. But if you actually address my specific challenges/questions with specific challenges of your own, I’m very willing to listen to and process them. And if your challenges show to be more reasonable, then I’d like to think I can be won over (I have no horse in the race after all, if anything I actually prefer macOS). But merely repeating yourself and trying to label and marginalize me isn’t going to convince me (and isn’t that the point of posting opinions/ideas in forums?). I’m sure you’re capable of more than that, but the question is whether you’re willing.

Don’t iPads have the same hardware limitation then? Can’t you push the limits of the ram on iPads?

I am still checking when I could actually justify using an iPad instead of a Mac. It is so much lighter, it has the option for cellular with less effort and keyboard + pen for many tasks. Almost everything is perfect, the new windows and multi-splits are good. But alas, the form factor is bad. It’s ok and just acceptable when using the iPad standalone.

The fact that you can connect to an external screen at a reasonable resolution makes it perfect for professional office use too…if only it could run 16:9 when you do. It is ruining everything that external connections cannot take advantage of the de facto standard format the entire world use on screens and TVs. It’s such as shame and a design limitation so big that it is unfathomable to me, going on for so many years. Black bars everywhere is s flawed user experience too big to be ignored. Simply gave up on this now, having had so many different iPads. It’s never coming it seems.

I’ve got an M3 Air, there’s no point in putting an M4 or 5 in the next one because the OS can’t even push the hardware in it. Until they put some touch version of macOS on these iPads I see no point in upgrading.
There’ll be software shown next month that absolutely will stress it, FOR THOSE WHO NEED IT.
