The short-lived agony of waiting for something I really want to come in the mail when it's out for delivery today, refreshing the page with the tracking number over and over in the vain hope that it'll update to say "Delivered."

... at which point you'll find it was delivered to the wrong address, in a nearby but inconveniently distant town, and it will take 3 weeks for the sender to reship, or the shipping company to fix the error.

Looking for a small (piano) keyboard I can have up in Wisconsin. I currently have a Yamaha CP88 here at home which is absolutely wonderful, but it's really big, really heavy, and would be far too expensive to ship back and forth 3-4 times a year, let alone the risk of it being damaged. I'll be performing a lot more off-campus in the fall, and while the college does have nice Nord keyboards, they are full 88 keys and there's no guarantee I'll be able to borrow them, let alone on super short notice. So looking at Nord Electro keyboards, which are smaller and lighter. I've never been a fan of Nords and have never owned them because I don't like how they feel to play, but I'm really just looking for something small that has good sounds. And ultimately any small 61-key board isn't going to have good action anyway, even Yamahas.
What about looking into music stores in Wisconsin - or, asking faculty, or fellow students, after all, they are music specialists, and some stores, (and the college) must know of people (businesses, or fellow students or faculty) who may wish to sell what they have, or can recommend where you might be able to buy such a thing - in Wisconsin, to see whether you might be able to find something similar there, rather than confining your search to you home state?

I wouldn't go that far, although ironically enough, I received the package several minutes after I submitted my post.

I received a package today as well. The screwdriver I ordered to replace the one they confiscated on my last flight.
You took it as carry on?
If not, you must have triggered something to have it confiscated from your check in.

What happened to MacRumors forum? It's still chugging along, but the comment numbers seem dramatically down overall. I don't think it's the forum's fault either. I think it's Apple. It's the same thing over and over. I can't remember the last time I watched an event. I think it was 2021 and the M1.

Yes carry on. I was only going for a day so wasn’t taking any more luggage than I needed.
I took it from Birmingham to Edinburgh no problem. It was on the way back it got confiscated. But I needed a screwdriver for the task I was going to do.

You got lucky going to Scotland. But the regulation, AFAIK, is that drivers are prohibited as carry on in the UK. You can always just put it in a small box and check it in. There's no drama with that. Or was it one of those LCCs and you have to pay extra for check in?

Extra for check in. Plus I really didn’t want the extra hassle at both ends. Didn’t even think about it.

Next time I’ll take the train.

A long time ago, after the first series of highjacks, but before TSA and friends got insane, you could carry a knife onto a plane, but only if it was below a certain size.
I had a folding knife, but it was a teeny tiny tad oversize. It was still small. I had to hand it over, and they would give it back to me at the end of the flight.
They found a plastic bag for it. Not just any plastic bag, but a full-size black plastic garbage bag, you know, for your 50 litre garbage bin. The knife was nestled in a corner at the bottom of the bag, the top sealed with a knot and it was put in some safe storage on the plane.
They gave it back to me, complete with garbage bag, at the end of the flight.

More recently, I had some scissors hiding in a forgotten pocket in my backpack. Not dressmaking shears, not surgical scissors, but those round-ended safety scissors you give to children to cut out shapes with paper. Confiscated, never to be seen again.

Apparently, an 18-year-old can be trusted with a pocket knife, but a 70-year-old can't be trusted with children's scissors...

Funny thing is I was carrying a lot of demo equipment in my bag. If I’d wanted to make trouble I’d have used the stands I had on me rather than a little screwdriver.

Humph, lost my Swiss Army knife when I forgot to pack it in my check-in a few years ago. It was the simplest one, the silver model but was pretty useful. Felt pretty dumb.

Soon after the new rules came in, there was a plane full of National Guard coming back from somewhere. One guy had his nail clippers confiscated, leaving him (and his colleagues) with their M-16s and other weapons...

I have almost lost count of the number of Swiss Army knives (an incredibly useful tool) I have lost when travelling abroad through failing to remember to remove them from my briefcase (before check-in) and putting them in my check-in luggage - it can be an issue if one has been travelling to several different cities over a number of days.

These days, I am a lot more careful, and remind myself to remember that my Swiss Army knife needs to go into my hold luggage.

I spent a large amount getting batteries installed at home.

After some unexpected hassles with configuration it seems to be working. Now to see what happens with my electricity use from the power grid.

Last night the water heater and everything else seems to be powered just from the batteries. This morning it’s still early and the washing machine is also powered that way.

Given yesterday was somewhat overcast I’m pretty pleased to wake up this morning with the batteries at 34% charge (from about 90% yesterday).

Used a Nord Electro II since six months after they came out; found one used at GC and they had it priced at $1,200 (they did not know what they had) and I grabbed it. Love it for the organs/E pianos (had a Kurzweil for acoustic piano sounds).
Take a look at some of the Casios too, great bang-for-the-buck if you can get past the "toy label".

Regarding TSA confiscations, my bugaboo is wine bottle openers; that curly stiff wire with a sharp point terrifies them, and I kept tossing it into my briefcase instead of the toiletries bag...

Let's just say that the combination of a lack of critical thinking and absolute power is a poor combination…and manifested in so many ways in today's world.

At least the nonsense with the shoe removal is no longer required.

Given that you can kill a person with a pencil (sharpened, of course), I quite agree with them on the corkscrew. It's metal, it's got a sharp point, a handle, and the curly bit hurts so much more going in.

Ok, I just found out that Google's AI has fibbed about me.
I was looking to see if there was an online, downloadable, PDF file of the "Papua New Guinea Fisheries Bibliography". I have a real copy, just wanted to see if it had been scanned and put online, like some of the other reports in the series.
This is the answer put up by Google's AI --

A comprehensive bibliography of Papua New Guinea (PNG) fisheries can be found in the "Aquatic Resources Bibliography of Papua New Guinea". This bibliography, initially compiled by John Lock and David Waites,

No, we didn't do the "Aquatic Resources Bibliography of Papua New Guinea", we did the other one. This one was compiled by Patricia Kailola, who is not mentioned at all in the AI summary.

Also, if you use Thorium Browser, rather than Google Chrome Browser, you don't the the AI summary when you search. Another reason to migrate to Thorium.

Haven’t they heard of poisonous shoes?

Remember the 007 movie with the shoe with the spike. ;)
