I used to be pretty casual about time keeping as a student, and was often late for class, or late for appointments - coffees and so on - with friends; once, I even missed a plane (my father, who had driven to the airport to collect me, - and had to do so a second time - quite rightly, was furious).

That began to change when I was a teacher (after all, the classes couldn't begin until I appeared), but now, my precise punctuality would almost make a German blush.

Ah! That's funny! I never missed a plane, but I missed many trains. I certainly missed more appointments than the Lord can count. I was always late for class too, which only enraged my teachers. This meme applies for my relationship with punctuality, responsibility, and my dad's multiple lectures. Obviously karma hit me back as now I have two kids that are not too dissimilar to me when I was their age, and curiously my reaction is similar to my dad's...

Now, I am never late to an appointment. Unless the car breaks down, or I fall sick, I do anything in my power to be near the location 10 minutes early. I might step in the meeting right on time, but I never arrive late to planned meetings.

Spiders galore! I have used one gallon so far and on my second. I have sprayed more now than I have since I started this. Almost monthly!

The mosquitoes are the nasty little buggers now. The small ones that bite you and you don't know about it until it is too late and you are covered in itchy bites!
No mosquitos. Given the weather this week, I'm sure they'll be hatching soon. It's the damn humidity causing anything to come in or come out of the woodwork. I didn't use much this summer because there was no real point. Now I'm beginning to understand why given I did everything like clockwork for years.

Yup... it has been super humid this summer. There were a couple of weeks in there I sprayed back to back weekends. The little buggers were not going away and of course they always pick the wife's car or outside area to come out and say hi at!

As you know the mosquito is the Minnesota state bird, so cry your little California hearts out.

Did I miss something or did mobilehathi and April stop posting abruptly?

Huh? What the heck did you buy that you need multiple applications?

If you were still a farm person, you'd have a point. You're a blueberry scone eating Californian. Freaked out over a spider.

Weather charts are suggesting high moisture and thunder storms this weekend through Tuesday morning. Fun...

We had a poor weather forecast for today, but I woke up to sunshine. I might even get to mow the lawn later. What fun!

I awoke to sunshine, as well, but the clouds are currently making themselves known and their presence felt.

Suffice to say that it is already darker, and more overcast than it was even two hours ago.

Looks as though we have similar weather across the pond -- definitely not a pool day after all, even though earlier weather reports had suggested a nice sunny, warm day. Instead it is cool and very cloudy, with rain on the way. Sigh.....
Looks like it will rain here now. Just finished mowing the grass. I’ll finish the floor when Mrs AFB gets out of the kitchen and then finally get to shower.

Then I have reports to finish for work.

I went to the cinema last night. Boy things have changed. I didn’t know I had to select my seat when buying the ticket, there’s now popcorn, burger, candy, beverage, and alcohol stations. You add your own artificial popcorn toppings just before entering the theater. I was totally out of my element. I had no idea this is how things are now. And to top it all off, someone had to explain how to recline the seats. And the price? Astronomical!

I’ve not been since episode 8 came out. Time before that was probably episode 7.

Think I’ll just not bother and stream them in future.

I have AMC A-List, so it's about $20/month for 3 movies a week (including 3D, IMAX etc.), which isn't bad at all. I very rarely buy any concessions at all.
One thing I noticed is that theaters sell the loudest snacks in existence. I actually believe that they develop them on purpose with a +400db sound level. Even drinks with ice; loudest thing ever, especially if the person drinking sucks from the straw as if there's no tomorrow.
Went to watch Midsommer yesterday, which is a Stanley Kubrick and Terrence Malick meet David Lynch having lunch with Lars Von Trier type of movie, which means that sound and long pauses are key elements. For the love of the gods of any religion on earth and of other planets, I swear I thought that other patrons chose the loudest snacks they could buy, possibly with free, infinite refill and amplified noise packaging. Must be a masterpiece of sound design thing.

I remember going to see "Gosford Park" in the cinema with Mother; my father wasn't well at the time, and she (well, we both) needed a break, and - of course - it is the sort of thing she hugely enjoyed.

If she was still around (and alert, and interested, and mobile), I would probably have taken her to the movie of Downton Abbey which is scheduled to be released sometime in the near future.

Beautiful, underrated movie.

Can't wait for it!

3 movies a week? I doubt they release that many a year I’d want to watch.
