Lol, actually depending on how the contact went, I often said “have a better day”.

Holy ****, yes, I almost wrote that, but I hate it so much, I refused to repeat it - this one bike cop in the little city where I grew up always said it, he was a legendary douchebag. I got stopped once, I was young, in my Corvette, he dropped the "Have a better day", I actually said, "I will, I'm driving my new Corvette over to my hot girlfriends apartment, so the rest of my day will be better than everyone else's ..."

:D

Surprised that didn't kick off a whole different ending to the interaction
[doublepost=1567953835][/doublepost]Oh this is fun, haven't done it for a __long__ time, going to this local place for brunch, it's AYCE, right on the ocean (it's only a few blocks away) which is a lot at the moment, us plus my wife's other husband / my brother / my child's other Dad, all the same guy, don't ask ... :D Bfast, lunch items, made-to-order everything, prime rib, snow crab - will be in a food coma this afternoon, doing a John Wick 3 re-watch with the aforementioned fellow, smashing some excellent micro beers, might ask if he wants to do karate in the garage*.

Lol. Yep, I picked up that line from a douche motor cop. Seriously! His name was Ed.

I didn’t write that many tickets because I wasn’t assigned to traffic, but once I stopped a guy for something and he went ballistic. I made him stand at the trunk of his car and told him he can say whatever he wants but if he moves from that spot I’d be putting him in my back seat. He yelled about how he was connected to everyone in city government and blah blah blah.

As he signed the ticket he fumed about how he hoped I was happy. I replied something to the effect that ‘I like my job and especially like it right this moment.’

A month later I found myself in an IA for being rude. (The IA was concluded with a finding of “unsubstantiated” meaning the investigation could not establish whether I was rude or not.)

Yeah, the place I was talking about was in the city limits, but most of the land area is in the county, so the municipal police had a tiny jurisdiction and were mostly relegated to traffic stops. The much larger county was handled by the Sheriff's department, who did very little traffic work (outside of initial accident response), and who were mostly pretty good people. In Florida there's also FHP, who overlap city and county, and who are for the most part _only_ traffic, but I see a decent number skulking around A1A, lighting up my V1 :D

I got lucky and had two offers at the same time...one from CHP and the other from the city. Chasing taillights and writing crash reports was not my thing so I worked a beat. Much more interesting.

When pressing pause on a CD player does the music stop or just slow to a mumble? :)

Irrelevant, your Honor: after all, when hitting pause on some autoplay video, what happens next depends entirely on the website and the viewer's script management options then currently deployed. There is, for instance, the entirely annoying habit of some sites to move the paused video into a popup window....

But when one presses on a brake pedal, one of two things happens, either the car merely slows down or it stops... and for how long depends on how long the pedal is pressed and whether the brakes are operating properly...

... and by the way, your Honor, on the question of how one determines one's brakes need attention...

They used to be good many years ago but when you begin seeing their products everywhere, then you have a problem. If you can get your hands on Les Jardins de Marie, I highly recommend it. They have everything including very unique jellies. I've tried a few fig jams in the past. I bought an organic one last year which was chock full of fruit and was basic but delicious. A year or two prior to that I'd bought a Italian, I believe, import that was spiced which I did not like.

Oh, agreed, they - Bonne Maman - used to be good, and I'd still class them as a pretty good commercial outfit re quality.

But Prunotto - who made excellent jams (preserves), including one made from figs - are superb.

They tend to use 100-150g of fruit per 100g of jam; superb and wonderfully tasting. Now, I will admit that their products are relatively expensive, but they are delicious.

I know what I'll be watching later. Thanks!

On my mind are the new headphones I bought today. My first ever pair of bluetooth / true wireless ones, symbolizing the final part of my descent in to the murky realms of streaming music on the go. It will be weird walking around town and not feeling the trusted old iPod in my pocket, but hey, sometimes you just have to get with the times, right?

Right..?

Sigh.

No, not right.

You will have to prise my iPod (or its successor as my favourite mp3 player) from my cold dead hands.

IMO wireless anything is just more to remember to keep charged, or put new batteries into... prefer something you can plug in and as long as the device you're using has power, you're good to go!

Enjoy them! But are they in-ear variety? So many New Yorkers have dropped Airpods onto the subway tracks that the NYC transit authority considers issuing a public service announcement about them:

My Bose QC35’s only need charging about once a week. Hardly an issue. Not having wires is so much more convenient.

Good question and it's certainly one I'd have to ask, which is why so far I don't possess even the two originals.

I have supposed that lost Airpods end up somewhere in the invisible limbo of all half-pairs, like lost socks.

EDIT: probably a matter of time before I try either Airpods or BT headphones... I have become quite fond of BT speakers and have a few around the house.

Prunotto sounds familiar. Do they make a hazelnut spread, too?

To be honest, I don't know.

They produce exceptionally good honey from their own hives (I visited the place where they produce their honey and was given a private tour), moving the hives up from the far South of Italy as the season progresses.

Their jams (preserves) - apricot (outstanding), strawberry and peach are superlative, and they also produce totally natural (and quite delicious) tomato sauce.

Trust me, the iPod is still staying on as a backup, but since it has started to show it's age the time was ripe to move on. The prices of second hand iPod Classics currently being what they are, it made more sense to hop on to the streaming train. But I truly get where you are coming from. I was there myself not so long ago.

I already have to charge so many things at irregular intervals so I don't think that's going to be an issue. I managed to keep the iPod charged (currently it needs charging about three times a week), so I think I'll do just fine with these as well. But yes, definately something to consider.

Thanks! Yeah they are in ear monitors, and this is a whole new thing I will start dreading the next time I leave the house with them on. Life was getting to be a little bit too easy, anyway.

I've been caught out with a wireless mouse and no AA batteries in the house previously, I suppose that's the benefit of design's like the magic mouse with a built in rechargeable battery, at least then you can just turn it over, plug it in and continue, uh, to watch it while it charges... :D I think I might eventually go for the AirPods once the iPhone 11/ reverse wireless charging is available though, particularly if like the pencil you can do a 15s-1m charge to get another 30m usage or so :) the easy carry case and lack of cable to tangle in your pocket does appeal for exercise... I might have to tape them in though!

I understand yes. $65 rings a bell.

If I didn’t have an Apple Watch I’d probably not use the AirPods. I don’t like having to go to my iPhone to advance or reply tracks. I like how they pause (<— actually pause, not just slow to a mumble  ) when removed from an ear and then resumes when popped back in. I’m disappointed in the battery length but it does charge a lot in just five minutes.

I look goofy as heck wearing them while walking through the office. But when I remove them, I sizzle!

I have to press a button on the side of my QC35’s. It’s a challenge but I manage! ;)

I wondered if there has ever been a study into the amount of hospital visits caused by building Ikea products, or self induced rage injuries because of assembling Ikea products?

Heh: The Wire when Det. Jimmy McNulty (Dominic West) was trying to put together some bunkbeds for an impending visit from his kids? Think the final solution was some ethanol... and mattresses on the floor... :D
