I am still convinced that the idea of making my life more difficult is part of his enjoyment. At any rate, I think I'll have to find a solution, maybe some other strange tool on Amazon.
Flip the toilet roll around so that it unfurls on the wall side... some people think that's the worst, but they probably never lived with cats.

Sadly some people are pretty selfish. Especially if they had been drinking.

Ambulance still outside neighbors. Not a good sign.
Yeah I don't know that area very well and I don't know what direction the car was going that hit him... I know the cops are on this, but that intersection, and that time of night means the car was probably using Wellington street... to get home. There were a few bars having Halloween parties that night so the chances of the driver being intoxicated are good. It's just not my place to try and figure this out. Nor will it really help Luke's family or kids; but they need closure and justice. From what I hear the family is still in shock; they have a funeral home with info that he will be cremated, but no indication of a service or timelines.

What about your neighbours @Apple fanboy ?

Oh my, this is terrible. Just terrible. While deadly accidents happen, there is no excuse for a hit and run. I hope that the driver is found and that he or she faces justice.

Friend of mine in her early 20's died the same way a few years ago, the driver was never found (Police found evidence that the car ended up in Mexico). I don't know how can anyone live with that. My friend was a very active individual in my community, well known by virtually anyone who had civic duties at heart.
The ultimate mind-f**k is the randomness of the universe. So many micro events/decisions in those last few hours could have meant this would have never happened. I hope the driver turns themselves in. At least that's a sign they are aware of the gravity of their actions.

Not heard anything as yet. I’m guessing that’s good news. I might pop round on Saturday if I’ve not heard anything.

I think our furry feline friends like the sensation of watching the toilet paper roll spinning around, too, as they eagerly claw at the paper..... Back in the days when I had two cats, I was not thrilled when one or both of them decided to play with the toilet paper!!! Bathroom was a mess more than once. Fortunately, they didn't do this all that often, though. After I moved from the townhouse to a small condominium apartment unit, I solved the problem by placing the covered litterbox strategically so that they really didn't notice the toilet paper roll because they were preoccupied doing their own thing....

Congratulations!
(I recommend the book "The First 90 Days").

I am not normally a reader, but this looks like a good call! It's the first time I'll be starting a job panicking. I shall find this book. Not sure I'll have time to read it between my Docker, Angular and NodeJS courses. 😂

Well, that book is pretty easy to read even a few snippets at a time
The book that I truly recommend for your line of work is Cal Newport's "Deep Work". Now, this is a must read for any knowledge worker. The importance of this book - which I mentioned multiple times on this very forum during the years - can't be stressed enough. If you can read only one book, then "Deep Work" takes precedence over all other books of its kind.
Cal Newport also gave two nice TED speeches (one on the wrong advice about passion and one on Social Media) that tackle some of the themes; I also recommend them for viewing. If you like podcasts, he appeared in dozens.

I have no idea what that is, but congratulations. Hope it works out for you.

That's ok. I barely know what it is either :D It's basically web development. Deploying apps server side and all that stuff.

I'm saving all of these in a list to come back to over the next few months. Thank you for all of these!

I truly wish you luck! Can't wait to see you become the next Bill Gates :) [if you do, don't forget about me!]

My list of people to remember when I'm a billionaire:
Wife
Kids
yaxomoxay
Apple Fanboy.

😁

As a science teacher of mine used to remark wryly at school: "Success is relative; the more success, the more relatives."

Nevertheless, the very best of luck - both personally and professionally - with the new position.

Congratulations!

Dev Ops, is that the development tracking software company with a product similar to Jira?

DEVOPS is a reasonably new term (for something I've been doing for 25 years :D), where the idea is the person handles DEVelopment and OPerationS for a client/company.

Basically instead of having a dedicated team for each, people do both, write code, test, manage requirements, deploy infrastructure, monitor systems, make required changes to everything to keep it all up and running.

It's popular for smaller companies, or larger orgs where they want more cross pollination of skills and self-managed support teams for specific areas of the companies tech needs.

You know he was making a joke, right? IIRC Gutty is a dev ops specialist for the company he works at.

I'd find it a little strange that he wouldn't know what that term meant after working in software for about 20 years.

I was just answering the question since multiple people asked, and just quickly quoted one as a reference.

No biggie.

Ah. I can't truly blame you then. His deadpan humor has often left me wondering and worried, fingers hovering over a "pillow delivery" service in the middle of the night that create a solid seal on every breathing orifice.

lol! I joke 99% of the time, but most of my jokes are terrible. @chown33 is the only person with worse jokes than me.
