The new airport in Beijing is like out of this world. There was a piece in the FT by a pilot who was among the first to fly into the Daxing "starfish" airport after its official opening. Inside looks like a cathedral fit for a hub somewhere else in the galaxy!

I read that article and the airport sounds absolutely extraordinary.

No, you can write a journal or diary with candour.

Just no need to leave such a thing lying around.

Might I recommend Leuchtturm1917 instead? As mentioned above, the quality of the paper used by Moleskin - some other company bought them some years ago, and quality hasn't been the same since - has deteriorated dreadfully in recent years.

And yes, I use the A5 - perfect for comfort and capacity and size.

Do they have a Daily planner? Yeah A5 seems to be perfect.

Maybe it's different for married guys with kids. Enjoy! Let us know how it works out. :)
It's the inverse of being young, I suppose. Parents don't want their kids finding out what they think about in private. I haven't journaled in close to 20 years now. Matter of fact, I was thinking about this a while back. I'd like to journal now but my handwriting after a few sentences is awful. I prefer typewritten notes only because I have immense trouble reading my own handwriting later on.

I do most of my "typing" these days via voice. I can hammer out a few thousand words by voice in a half hour versus typing for hours.

Make sure that you use good quality paper, when journaling, or doing any sort of serious writing; it makes a considerable difference to the whole physical experience of writing while putting thoughts on paper, or even sketching or drawing.

One of the things about the advent of tech is that the quality of paper readily available for writing these days (and I use a fountain pen) has declined - deteriorated - considerably; it seems that computers (or printers, to be more precise) are a lot less demanding of quality than are pens.

Thus, for the past six or so years, I have been using extremely good quality paper when taking notes or just simply writing; when writing, I use Leuctturm 1917, which is excellent and which - when buying - I tend to buy several notebooks at a time; pricey, yes, but well worth it, to my mind. They are a pleasure to write on. Meanwhile, the quality of the paper used by Moleskine, which used to be excellent, has really declined.

Some Japanese companies manufacture superb quality paper, and I have also used paper from the US company, Colonel Littleton, (they manufacture leather goods) which I found to be excellent.
Thanks.

Cornell recommends special supplies and journals for the class.

Just have to pay down the Mac and help mom through the surgeries and I will sign up.

@kazmac Has your new MBP shown up? I want to "ooh and ahh" from afar :D
Yes...it actually arrived this morning, I've been busy with mom and our family friend.

I'll take pix shortly.

Of course I am upstairs on my iMac right now, but had to wrangle our wondrous WiFi.

Back in a few.

Be warned, I take crap pictures.

EDIT: with pix

Yes, that's my Audubon stuffed avian Blue Jay wanting to join in.

I really like it. Avoiding most reviews/threads as I just want to enjoy the machine and ease my way into using a laptop.

I resized the Safari screen so you could see dark mode a bit better on the display.

I'm better at typing than at handwriting too. I can't even always read my own chickenscratch, so the whole idea of stuff like the Notes app on an iPhone was made for my survival I think. I even type notes on my quilting projects as I'm wrapping a day and then screengrab the notes so they end up packaged with the photo journal of that project's docu during its work-in-progress stages.

One of my great great aunts (who I wish had kept a diary!) once remarked in the drawing room after dinner one night --having offered up the fact that she was reading some biography about Cromwell-- that she was always surprised about how interesting men could be in their letters to peers, and yet how boring they could be in a drawing room after dinner. Hilarious!!! (Everyone but my grandfather AND HIS BOSS burst out laughing.)

My idea of journaling does just run more to those photos of where I left off in today's work on some wallhanging or design project for the next one etc. Sort of like a bookmark. Or for tomorrow's resolution of minor mysteries: "oh this is why this red print is still on the table."

If anyone ever ran into some set of those things after my demise, I'm sure they'd be as mystified as most of us have been in the age of our ancestors' boxes of printed photographs, where you find nothing written on the back and no clue who the hell that is there with Uncle Martin and Aunt Jenn.

Ah, the notes app. I've only just begun to use it for the shopping. Prior to that, I went by a list. And I'd always manage to forget something obscure. My list for a certain store is still written down and is on a legal pad with dozens of items.

I've had to destroy a few journals I'd kept for years once I realized what was in them could get me in hot water because the info I recounted was eyes only.

I use some app for voice to text that works well and has punctuation stuff built in. I make use of the "AI" offered up on my phone to read back texts and emails, compose texts via voice, open and close apps, etc. We're very spoiled as adults.

Indeed. Now I want a Mac in the same space gray as the MM2.

Oooooooo. Ahhhhhhhhh.

Now I want one!

Oh the Audubon Blue Jays are very inexpensive. ;):p

Ahem, MBP...

The keyboard is wonderful, so is the display, and the speakers are even better than on the 15" models. It's quite responsive and a joy to type on. The touch bar is a bit daft but interesting, so far it's a brightness levels and volume tweaker for me. It's nice to be working with an SSD and a solid graphics card at long last.

Not one of these benchmarking people, so I cannot answer those types of questions. I like it a lot and hope it's the beginning of Apple taking their hardware and software seriously again. Grateful to have an option that lets me be closer to mom or further away if needbe.

Trying not to think about external displays unless there's a great deal on the LG Ultrafine 4k or the Razer Raptor in the next month or so.

VERY nice!!!!! Many happy years of enjoyment and productivity with this lovely machine.....

Yes, the Magic Mouse 2 and the Magic Keyboard in the Space Grey (actually pretty much black) are gorgeous..... As soon as they became available I hustled over to the Apple store to buy them! The mouse in particular is just so neat-looking, with that shiny black smooth top surface.....

Ah, the notes app. I've only just begun to use it for the shopping.

We love it, we used a shared note for groceries, and just revise it as needed, and syncs across all our devices, so it's always up to date!

Nice. I might have to spend some "alone time" with that pic ...

The person standing next to you may not be who they appear to be. So take precautions.

And then there are the avian kibitzers... maybe bring a parasol / umbrella !!

I'm still window shopping but your selection is pretty tempting. Might have to go back to work to justify it though... lol now there's a speed bump in my enthusiasm.. but I applaud your choice and hope your new Mac will provide many years of fun and functionality.

Don't use an iPhone... But I think we've got some shared note thing.

I still use the old-fashioned pad and pen to write down what I'm going to need the next time I go to the grocery store. It's quick and easy, right then and there as I'm standing in the kitchen and use up the last of something or remember that I want to buy something I haven't had in a long time....just grab the pad, which is kept on a counter in the kitchen, and add the item to the list right then and there. When I'm heading off to the store I tear the sheet of paper from the pad, stick it in my pocket and away I go.....

We do the same. But every time I write something it mysteriously gets crossed of when Mrs AFB goes shopping. That’s why we have no;
Cake
Crisps
Steak
Burgers
Bread
Chocolate
Chips
Bacon
in the house ever.

I polished off about 6 lb in crisps this week... Didn't realize how bad it was until I looked in the mirror and wondered when I'd become a puffer fish. Too much sodium related water weight.

Damn shame, too. I was craving pork scratchings again earlier after dinner.

#greenwithenvy. On a brighter note I’m lighter than I was a few years ago!
No beer, though. I had trouble consuming my scotch on Saturday, too. Not because of the weather, but the enthusiasm of a scotch having not had one in a very long time wore away fast.

And that is exactly what I do, as well.

I swear by hand written lists - they are wonderful, easy to create, portable (in a pocket) and can easily be disposed of.

And, in the city, when in one of the shops, I take a look at my list to remind myself of what is on it, - just so that one minor item does not slip my mind - and I simply tick off what has already been dealt with, bought, or attended to.
