Domestic remedies will not clear this up (voice of bitter, hard earned experience speaking, here), but ear drops in advance of your visit may serve to soften the wax (and ensure that it is easier for the medics to remove when they inevitably have to attend to it).

This would be ideal, yes, but as it's almost half past ten in the evening here, and the 24h pharmacy is a ways away I think I'm just going to wait until I get to the doc in about 9 hours. I have the whole coming week off, so luckily there's time to tend to it properly at least.

Once you have seen the doctor, and the ear (ears?) have/has been syringed, you will be fine.

It is the deafness, feeling of heaviness in the head, slightly unbalanced (and heavy) feeling, and general sense that you are not quite right (and sinus issues may influence ear problems - they did in my case), - which can give rise to tetchiness - that cause the problems before you get to see the doctor.

Very true. Currently whenever I blow my nose while standing up in addition to my left ear "cracking" there is a brief feeling of falling over that follows, understandable because of the pressure changes and the effects on balance. It'll most definitely be fine in due time, but the thing that irritates me the most is the fact that it (actually getting to see a doctor) had to be drawn out like this.

It is what it is, better a bit late than never.

Yes, you think that it is not mortal (well, it isn't), that you can carry on working and living (you can, but communication becomes frustrating on account of the fact that you are deaf in one side and then you become tetchy), and that sense of discomfort, heaviness, and unbalanced feeling - plus, communication stuff - all mean that - while it is not especially serious, - in the normal run of medical problems - it is massively inconvenient and uncomfortable and difficult for those who work and live with you.

While it is tempting to put treatment on the proverbial long finger, experience has taught me that it is better to try to get it seen to (by a doctor) within a short while (a matter of a very few days) when this malady first strikes.

Agreed on everything, but this resonates especially heavily.

I always use my phone with my left hand, and obviously ear as well, so the communication bit rings very true. I actually snapped at a coworker friend of mine that he should finally get a new phone because I couldn't hear anything he was saying on the phone. Granted, his phone is extremely close to dying, but in this case, this one time it was actually my ear that was the problem. He snapped back at me, some extended snapping ensued and now everything is fine.

And, the next part of that sentence stressed that - as a consequence of this - you can become tetchy, as you recognise (and, as I recognise).

Worse, this has happened to me a few times when abroad (and that presented its own challenges).

Get thee to a doctor, and this will be dealt with, and you will feel a lot better in so many different ways.

I am always amazed (for all of a few minutes - I should take the time to appreciate this sensation a bit more) at how well I hear, once those ears have had their burden of concrete consistency wax removed by someone medically qualified to deal with such stuff.

Precisely, my quoting abilities (or possibly the rum) failed me. But you are right, of course.

It's in the books first thing in the morning, so will do!

Enjoy: Okay, well, one cannot enjoy the procedure, but one can enjoy the pleasure of full auditory sensation restored, and also appreciate the welcome lack of tetchy temper and the even more welcome lack of heaviness in one's head, and lack of feeling unbalanced and heavy on one side of one's body and head; above all, one can enjoy conversation instead of snarling and snapping.

Anyway, good luck.

No worries about "ear glue" here, never had that particular problem, thank goodness!

What's on my mind? Learning to use the new camera I just bought..... I can already anticipate a serious learning curve, as this A7R IV is much more sophisticated than any cameras I've had in the past.....

Just not as nice! I’m not bitter! ;) Enjoy focus peaking for macro work.

Not sure what I did, but I've pulled a muscle in my right leg and am now hobbling around. May have something to do with my early morning jog and slightly losing control on a wet patch of ground, and its effects are now taking hold.

Another get thee to a doctor advice bearing post.

Me, a series of interviews are on my mind.

@Mefisto hope your ears are okay.

@Scepticalscribe good luck with the interviews.

Well, Apple refunded the $14.97 for movies I bought from iTunes the other day. Keep doing this Apple and I will eventually pay off the MBP ;)

Mom doesn't seem to understand the laptop as desktop replacement (Closed laptop, external display, keyboard and mouse), "If you have a display and keyboard on the laptop, why do you need a separate display and keyboard?"

Fair question mom, but that's because I will need a bigger screen sometimes. (Also to have display in place when Apple fixes the Mac Mini) :p

Though, I think I missed a Best Buy sale on the LG ultrafine 4k monitor.

What's really on my mind? As mom is getting clearance for the first surgery, long shifts at work today - this Wednesday. o_O

Good luck with your mother's surgery.

Am I correct in thinking that this has been scheduled for this coming Wednesday?

Thank you.

Thanks.

No, it's second week in December. She is in process of getting clearance for the surgery from her doctors.

Trying to stay positive and thinking good thoughts.

Happy Friday everyone!
