How I feel at the end of this week.
Let me add: amount of stuff on his desk is not far from that on my desk; my posture and facial expression is virtually identical; my belly is flatter; no tie, but if I had one I wouldn't wear such an abysmal one (which is not HAK's worse tie); I am younger yet equally egocentric.

(Serious historical info for geeks: the above picture was taken right after Ford announced that he decided to begin Saigon's evacuations, which meant both the end of war and the utter failure of the actual peace treaty due to Congress not only refusing to authorize funds for intervention but to halt all intervention for a few years; HAK is left waiting, alone and powerless, on information about the evacuation efforts. This basically prompted him to try to return the Nobel Peace prize, something that he was unable to do).

Just not as nice! I’m not bitter! ;) Enjoy focus peaking for macro work.

I have loved focus peaking ever since I had it on my first mirrorless camera, the Sony NEX-7. It is great for macro work in particular, since one usually does that in manual focus!

Thanks.

No, it's second week in December. She is in process of getting clearance for the surgery from her doctors.

Trying to stay positive and thinking good thoughts.

Happy Friday everyone!

Happy Friday to you, too! That's good that things are moving forward towards your mother having that surgery, which hopefully will bring her much relief from pain and mobility difficulty.

Keep enjoying that new MBP! Yeah, I'm still thinking about that LG monitor, too..... I've been using my 2018 MBP as a "desktop replacement" with keyboard and mouse for quite a while now and I really like it, but there definitely are times when I need more screen space / real estate. Just have to rearrange some stuff on the physical desk/computer workstation in order to make room for an external monitor and get to the Apple store to buy it....

@Mefisto hope your ears are okay.

@Scepticalscribe good luck with the interviews.

Well, Apple refunded the $14.97 for movies I bought from iTunes the other day. Keep doing this Apple and I will eventually pay off the MBP ;)

Mom doesn't seem to understand the laptop as desktop replacement (Closed laptop, external display, keyboard and mouse), "If you have a display and keyboard on the laptop, why do you need a separate display and keyboard?"

Fair question mom, but that's because I will need a bigger screen sometimes. (Also to have display in place when Apple fixes the Mac Mini) :p

Though, I think I missed a Best Buy sale on the LG ultrafine 4k monitor.

What's really on my mind? As mom is getting clearance for the first surgery, long shifts at work today - this Wednesday. o_O
Hope it all goes well. Also nothing wrong with the Mac mini!

On my mind is my move. Been exchanging calls and emails with the solicitor and mortgage advisor all day.
Still on for Monday exchange and completion the following week.

Antibiotics and sick leave, no procedures at least yet other than eardrops. Which is especially fantastic since I had already taken the coming week off work anyway. Oh well, such is the life of a freelancer, you work when there's work and then stay home and recuperate on your days off. Wouldn't change it for the world, though.

Wondering if I should take up yodeling.

Ever since I first heard Hocus Pocus by Focus I wondered the same thing. Having tried it once I promptly dismissed the idea. It's like throat singing, sounds fun to learn, but in the end it's best left to the pros. However, should you really go for it, I wish you great(er) success (than I had)!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes for mom.

@yaxomoxay congrats!

@Mefisto feel better soon

🤗

Hope it all goes well. Also nothing wrong with the Mac mini!

Hope the move and details are going more smoothly.

So glad you have nothing wrong with your Mac Mini. All the display models I tested had WiFi and Bluetooth issues as mentioned in the Mini forums. If I have to return the MBP due to my arthritis, then I will capitulate and try a Mini anyway.

Will finally do more with the MBP again today.

@Clix Pix I hope you get the LG Ultrafine soon. I am looking forward to retiring my 27" iMac and cleaning up the space up there.

Anyway, I hope everyone is well. Almost home...

That thought entered my brain yesterday as I was listening to some older "Weird Al" songs, one of his polkas, and there was a moment where he yodeled or something like it. It sounds fun when you sing along for a second. But I don't know that I'd quit my day job for it.

Hope you feel better soon. I'm still fighting off my sinus infection and am a little over halfway through my course of antibiotics.

Looks like I got the promotion I interviewed for a couple of months ago, at least on a temporary/tryout basis. I can’t hide a mix of excitement and fear...

Warmest congratulations and very well done. I hope that it works out exceptionally well for you.

Ah, every pleased for you that this annoying condition is (or has been ) judged not to warrant anything more serious than the introduction of ear drops to your troublesome ears; have your sinuses been giving you any trouble?

My sinuses, and my ears (and, indeed, my wisdom teeth) were all issues that I had to live with (and suffer through) at one time or another.

Much appreciated! As are the well wishes from others!

My sinuses in particular haven't given me any noticeable trouble, a runny nose but that's par for the course this time of year.

Oh boy, the wisdom teeth are giving me trouble as well. On my lower jaw they're ever so slightly poking out, in an entirely wrong position and who knows what else. The pain comes and goes, some slight bleeding every now and again but the dentist seems adamant that we should leave them be for now. Who am I to argue with a trained professional, I guess. They haven't given me that much grief for a while now, so knock on wood.

Sometimes my body really does feel like a temple, only the kind of temple taken over by wild monkeys and littering tourists.

Two of my wisdom teeth were impacted, and had to be removed (by a dental surgeon, not my dentist); roughly once a year, or every 15 or so months, they would flare up and I would get an appalling migraine, and sometimes, issues with my sinuses, as well.

Anyway, very pleased for you that everything worked out well for you, today.

@Gutwrench's post should have made a wheel turn in my head this morning, but it wasn't until breakfast time and the conversation turned towards next week, with me asking what about next week. I think Missus Zenithal was about to throw a knife at me.

I thought it was 2 weeks from now. Mind is in a jumble and I've got binders full of recipes open around the house. Looks like I'm making several shopping trips this weekend. Went to the store after breakfast and bought some root veg by the crate. Also picked up a few more crates of wine I'd ordered. More stores this weekend, cheesemonger's pickup, Zon deliveries.

I stopped questioning some of Gutwrench's posts a long time ago. I did find it a little strange he brought the holiday up out of nowhere. I should get one of those large planners now with the big tacky calendars people put on their desks.

😆

It sounds like you might be busy.
In my mind, I thought it was November 12 or 13. Usually by this time I'd have had both refrigerators chock full of produce and other stuff. Fairly mundane at the moment apart from some bulk veggies.

In short, yeah, fairly busy. We've got more people coming over this year than prior years. Just gotta space out what can be prepped and what can't. At least with a grill you can cook stuff outside, too, with monitoring tools.

I wish you a speedy recovery, but I am howling at your bolded-italicized. 😘My body feels like the Temple of Doom after last year, but right now, the only doom part is that, yes, my arthritic wrists have told me once and for all, "No babe, you are not a laptop person no matter how hard you try."

My wrists ache terribly using not only the trackpad, but the built in keyboard (the angles just do not work for me). When I went back to using the external keyboard upstairs the pain subsided, soooo....MBP goes back to Apple on Monday morning. The waiting game will start again, for Macs anyway.

I am confident that Apple will continue to fix/improve upon other Macs in 2020 - giving the customer more value for the dollar and better built machines. So I will wait on the iMacs and/or Mac Mini and use my current limping iMac and the iPad Air.

So it's not the Mac, it's me.:(

I would recommend this 16" MBP to everyone who can use laptops. I was pretty impressed by the cooling system when I was resetting the machine tonight (Holy hell the steps to factory restore have changed!), anyway, the bottom of the laptop was very hot while restoring the machine, but I never heard the fans and it cooled back down in under a minute.

Not looking forward to using laptops at work, but I've been told I will keep my existing keyboard, mouse and displays, so if that's the case I'll have to manage.

What else is on my mind, trying to learn Google docs and then my coworker who suggested it effectively said, "Screw it, use Word instead." o_O

Why not simply set the MBP up as a desktop replacement, with external keyboard, mouse and monitor? I do that now, have done it since 2015, actually, and it works out very well for me. That is, I haven't gotten around to getting the external monitor yet but the MBP's monitor works pretty well, too, as I have the computer on a stand so that the screen is at the right eye level for me. The main reason for currently considering an external monitor is for the larger screen real estate, which will come in particularly handy as I post-process and edit images that I've shot with my new camera, which has a much higher resolution than any I've used previously.

It really would be a shame to return that nice MBP, especially since it apparently is meeting your needs in most ways..... Just get an external Magic Keyboard to match that Space Grey/Black mouse and you're in business! I don't like trackpads, so I don't bother with the one on my MBP. A while back I tried the external trackpad but didn't like it, either. I just don't feel that I have as much control and ability to be precise with one of those.

There are ways around the situation you've encountered, it just requires thinking in a different direction. Your wrists and hands will thank you, and you'll still get to enjoy the benefits of that nice new 16" MBP!
