My wife and I had the privilege of going to Costco this last weekend because we wanted a few items (not TP or anything related to that). We thought, why the heck not, let's visit the toilet paper isle just to see wha......

Completely empty.

They brought out a tiny pallet of Smart Water and we got to see people fighting to stuff their carts with the tiny 6 bottle Smart Water boxes. Like mad rush shove and stuff your cart full as quickly as possible .... Disgusting.

Bought Bounty paper towels at Vons for the first time in ... years. :)

Disgusting is the right adjective. I mean, I don't think that tap water is going to end!

I have lived in - and worked in - countries where the (tap) water was not potable, (and thus, we consumed bottled water imported at considerable expense).

However, that is not at all the case with tap water in pretty much all of the First World; there, the tap water is perfectly potable, even if some mineral waters are a lot tastier, or more refreshing.

What gets me is ... Vons, Target, and all the other grocery stores have ample supplies of TP and water.... It's just costco? lol. (Target is less than a mile away from Costco where I live)

So my colleague who confessed to having 90 rolls of toilet paper yesterday told me she went and bought some more last night. She now had 108 in her garage.

Meanwhile others will have none. Kind of weird.

I’m sure she’ll move on to pasta next!

Ludicrous.

Perfectly ludicrous.

How many months would it take you to get through 90 - or even twice that number - toilet rolls?

Well... if we want to get technical here... scrunch vs folding... ..... but no .. yeah ... you're right, that should last forever.

At most We have 1 Costco pack and when we get low if we can't hit costco I'll get a small quilted northern pack from Vons to tidy us over till we do go to Costco (Once a month or so).

No, I don't need to "get technical", and, I also recognise that homes with small children, expectant (and menstruating) women, elders who have continence issues may - or will - well need more ( a lot more) by way of supplies of toilet paper so that they have sufficient quantities of toilet rolls for their needs than would be required by a small household of functioning (and healthy) adults.

However, 90 (let alone twice that) does strike me as somewhat excessive.....

I think Charmin at Costco is something 32 rolls. It lasts roughly two months for us, but we also have company over often. I suppose if you had teenagers those rolls would disappear faster.

Meanwhile, I was able to get toilet paper last week and Lysol disinfectant wipes this week from the local grocery chain without issue.

Speaking of disgusting, the wanna-be third party sellers with antibacterial soap, wipes on Amazon are just absurd in their over-priced greed.

Job 2 just informed us that we should carry our work laptops to and from work daily, just in case the firm closes. Meanwhile, I look longingly at the new PC bought for partially this purpose and am 🥴. I still believe it’s a good idea I did that though.

There are no contingency plans for job 1 at the moment.

How do people know this?

The owner of the building does his own cleaning and ... I work late so ended up becoming friends with him. May have helped him when he was on vacation a few times. <cough>. So I had to replenish supplies more than a few times. :p

Thos house is a 100% Cottonelle zone.

Where does Quilted Northern rate on the chart vs Cottonelle?

Always loved Georgia Pacific for whatever reason. (Really no reason...) --- I'll give Cottonelle a try this weekend!

Tell ‘em Gutwrench sent ya.

Ps - Don’t take any advice from @LizKat on this topic. Sear’s, JC Penny’s, and Readers Digest (with or without the Publishers Clearing House inserts) are not suitable alternatives.

Pasta, wow. If I went to order fini linguine or farfalle and there was none I'd freak out.

If I got into hoarding though, then I guess I'd probably try to corner the market on things like Annie Chun's teriyaki noodles, French thyme, olive oil mayo... Progresso tomato basil soup.... cupboard staples that I just count on having there when I reach for the backup container.

But on things like toilet paper and paper towels (and coffee beans and nonfat dry milk) I've always kept ahead of the curve anyway, since I wouldn't want to run out of those in winter when shopping weather is uncertain.

This all makes me think back to the days of grossing $100 a week and paying $104 per month for rent. The four basic food groups were beer, coffee, pasta and tomatoes.

$104 for rent? That was probably a while ago!
My take home pay when I started work at 15 was £90. £15 for my parents and the rest went on beer and bus fairs I’d imagine.

Now the £90 would struggle to cover the week’s shopping. Fortunately I earn a little more!

We usually have a couple of dozen knocking about in the house (though we do have 3x bathrooms to stock) in case of stomach upsets - 90 seems OTT even if they've been accrued over a long time rather than bought in one job lot. I mean if it really comes down to it theres always the bidet/ shower to clean yourself up. Its not like you're totally out of luck if you run out of roll!

Maybe you should go get that looked at  ;)

Oh, I will always have at least a few dozen to hand, that is not something that you may wish to run short of, but never anything approaching 90.........
