Currently working, money isn't a problem yet but could be if I can't find work in the next few months. I'd be moving from Victoria BC to Vancouver BC (the most expensive city in Canada).

Im 25, been in school/with my folks most of my adult life, I feel as though a change is needed.
I have been in both cities. Both very nice. Wanting to spread your wings at 25 is perfectly understandable. Vancouver is extremely expensive housing wise (as you are well aware). Do you know people in Vancouver? Is your current job a good stepping stone into what may be on offer in Vancouver?

What about Toronto or Ottawa? A while ago I would have included Calgary in the list but with the oil price in the toilet I think Calgary is very grim job wise.

Iceland must be incredibly beautiful. It's on my "gotta see before I die" place.
Plus I must visit the grave of Bobby Fischer (despite him being quite an awful person)

Unfortunately Iceland has become a trendy destination over the past 5+ years but it is probably worth doing (perhaps better in the off season if there is an off season there).

Yes very true. I do have friends in Vancouver and yes my education and current job (technical analyst at a mid sized company) should provide me with enough experience to jump into something similar in Vancouver, to be honest I'm surprised I haven't heard back from more places but maybe I just need to curb my expectations.

The main reason I'd like to stay close to Victoria is because 90% of my family is there, including my folks who are in decent health now, but getting older and if I move to somewhere like Toronto I feel like I wouldn't visit them as much due to the travel distance.

I will never understand passwords to pay bills. If anyone wants to hack my account, and pay... feel free.
Or why only allow me to make a deposit to my account? But yet now in the digital age you can use countless apps to do it. So what's the problem with a relative using a deposit slip to deposit into your account. I had to give him the acct#, so it's not like some rando is depositing into my account.

We implemented a number of payment systems in the early 00s, including for some major power and light companies, and I recall bringing that up when discussing security, "Want to pay my power bill, awesome!"

:D

The actual problem is online accounts divulge a surprising amount of information, and even when it's limited, a call to customer service with backed with that online info, you can get a shocking amount of additional info - or missing parts of a person's info, that you're piecing together from multiple sources.
Yea if they want to do it properly, they will have separate guest credentials where all you can do is enter payment info. I know AT&T if you can't VID properly, they will allow a payment, but can't tell you anything, not even the balance.

Right? Though I guess it's to make sure you're paying the right bill. I could see one mistype allowing you to accidentally pay for someone else. Not sure if this is reason or not but that's all I can think of.
This is why I don't understand why it isn't a requirement for banks to verify name and not just routing/account number. I've read several accounts of people's deposits going to the wrong account because the acct# was wrong, and not always entered wrong by the customer. Either way, it would be rejected if the names were compared, barring some super common name like John Smith that was actually the name on the incorrect account.

HBO offering The Watchmen for free.

The network is making the episodes free as “an extension of the network’s content offering highlighting Black experiences, voices and storytellers,” according to a press release, adding that HBO is proud to offer the “timely, poignant series that explores the legacy of systemic racism in America” to anyone who wants to watch. The series starts in Tulsa 1921, demonstrating the events of the Tulsa massacre in which a mob of white Americans attacked black residents and businesses in Tulsa’s Greenwood District.

Juhannus - Midsummer holiday today in Finland. Very fortunate, sunny and 27c, good friends, good food and drink. 😎 😎 :)

Excellent, and do enjoy if that is where you currently are.

Some years ago, I was in central Asia, working with the EU, during the period of the summer solstice, and my Swedish colleagues - who had all arranged to take a day's leave - spent the day eating (various forms of pickled herring, and potato salad, and other salads), and drinking (several different types and flavours of aquavit, plus beer, if memory serves) and singing some perfectly dreadful, doleful, dirges that became increasingly discordant as the evening wore on.

Yes, I joined them (by invitation) for some of the meal, several toasts, much excellent beer and aquavit, and enjoyed convivial conversation with congenial company, but bailed when they showed signs of wanting to start to sing.

The following day, neither hide nor hair of a single, solitary, Swede was seen for pretty much the entire day.

2020 hits again. The great Alex Zanardi - former F1 and Indy racer who lost both his legs in a dramatic Indy accident (he lost 3/4 of his blood) to then discover the beauty of life, optimism, smile, love - is now in critical condition; during a Paralympics training he lost control of his handbike and hit a truck that was driving in the opposite direction.

Anyone not familiar with his smile and optimism should read about him.

Good luck Alex.

I only know him really from his F1 days and remember his massive Eau Rouge crash in 1993. He’s been through a hell of a lot in his life and I hope he recovers from this latest battle. A tough bloke who isn’t finished yet.

I started bullet journaling a few days ago. So far the experience has been positive. I am not an artist by any means so my dotted journal does not resemble the neat and tidy journals you see online, but so far it's doing its job of both memorializing and keeping me on track.
I must say - despite me being the most awful drawing artist ever (stick figures are a challenge, and I am not joking) - the act of preparing and keeping up the journal is somewhat relaxing and meditative in itself.

All the money is in wearables. :apple: Pants to be shown in the keynote when Tim walks on in a pair! Available in space grey, rose gold and silver!

I hope those are walled garden style.

Do you draw in these journal pages?

I’m blushing. Wait, you were talking about me right? Right?

Bummmmmp...bummmmmmp...bumppppp.
Is this thing on? 😞
Oh man, I am so busted.;) Yes, good GW, talking about you too.:)

Well on top of having our fall study abroad semester cancelled (some hope for another program) it seems my bike was stolen in braod daylight next to my apartment. I left it locked to a bike stand just to take my groceries up to my apartment and prepare for my guests. Was planning to put it in the basement but forgot and went out in the evening to see the chain cut - and one of my guests said he had seen it on the ground and was wondering what it was.

Now off to the police for a report and contact my insurance.
