Life can be **** sometimes. My (our) oldest sons birthday is on the 8th of September, my younger sons on the 17th September. My wife died in between on the 14th. She managed to be there for my eldest sons birthday.

Also, as you’ll know, people telling you it’ll get better doesn’t help. It just gets different. My wife died 15 years ago. I can’t say it’s better, it’s just different. Let’s hope it’s a quick Christmas for you and a long one for me....
True. I couldn't imagine life without Mrs AFB
Yes I can imagine September is a difficult month for you.

You don't think about it every minute of every day like you do at the start, but then all of a sudden something will remind you and the grief is there like it just happened. Or worse the dreams and for a split second as you wake, you forget it even did happen!

For me, November brings my late husband's birthday, December brings a reminder of the day we learned he had cancer, and February is the month that three different people close to me passed away -- not in the same year, though: my husband, my mother-in-law, and my father. As the years pass, the memories remain but they are softer, gentler, less stinging and raw now.
Life can be tough. Truth is its too tough a lot of the time. But what can you do? You just have to get on with it. But I'd sooner just lose some parts of the year!

I have always disked the season of winter, (the dark, dreary, skies, the lack of light, the short days, the cold) and - apart from childhood, when I admit that I did like it - I have never much liked Christmas.

My mother - who died just before Christmas - just before midnight on December 21 - two years ago, having battled dementia for the best part of a decade before that - also loathed winter and thrilled to, delighted in, revelled in, summer.

So, no, not my favourite time of year, at all.

Tough weekend. Several relatives tested positive for Covid, one is at the hospital with serious symptoms; older one is now in a coma and expected to die. Also, older gentleman friend of mine passed away last night due to Covid.
Stark reminder to cheer life, always.

My commiserations; sounds as though you are going through a very tough time.

Good luck.

Also sorry to hear the news. COVID has touched me very little if I'm honest. But I fear for my parents. Hopefully they can get through to the vaccination unscathed.

Work stuff on my mind. Just logged off for the evening.

Any one noticed that the iPad Pro base cost as much as the iPhone 12 Mini? Does anyone else feels there is something wrong here?

There only difference is that the iPad Pro costs $150 extra to add cellular capability which is ludicrous since you can buy brand new dumb phones for $20 and they got a lot more than a cellular antenna.

I'll be spending Thanksgiving and Christmas without my family (or anyone) for the first time in my life since I'm not comfortable gathering without testing and quarantining. Even typing that makes me cry. I struggle majorly with anxiety and depression, and that doesn't help.

I've been working from home full time, and as cases are rising here in the Bay Area, I'm being called back into a full office where I sit at a desk for 8 hours a day for arbitrary reasons.

I hate this year.

Thank you for all the good thoughts. Update is that my brother has been hospitalized due to complications from Covid (O2 levels are good thankfully), doctors already told him that full recovery - if things don't get worse - could take months. Older relative is still expected to pass away, although we can pray that things will get better.
Obviously the best thing I can do is to not panic, be steady, pray, and help for whatever I can (not much).

Miniaturisation costs more I’d have thought.

Sorry to hear about the older relative. Hope your brothers recovery is better than anticipated.

Hang in there, it will pass. There is some good news and real light at the end of this tunnel. At work keep your distance, wear a mask (suggest others do too) and follow all the other guidelines. You’ll get there!

In the past I used to look forward and get excited about technology advancement especially in the personal computer field, now computers are so fast and amazing as is, and I look forward to diminish my digital life and look to enjoy the real tangible life more than living in front of an interactive screen. I am getting old...sigh...

We've got a kitchen light that flickers at times, doesn't work at others, and is fine randomly. With my husband working night shift, it's hard to schedule maintenance. Now I've got my psychiatrist and dentist over the next two days as well. I hope this light doesn't start a fire or something.

Is it an LED light? They are unlikely to cause a fire as the voltage is pretty low. If it’s an old strip light it’s probably just a starter motor. They cost very little and a doddle to change.

Job hunting... my last day with this job is December 4th. That I was at this job for 8 months is five months longer than I expected and the reduction in force reasoning looks much better for me. Grateful to work during this pandemic.

Reached out to my previous job at the library outsourcing company and applied for Part Time work there while I wait for my previous sites to reopen [One site may reopen in February but it’s Part Time: need two PT jobs to equal Full Time job there to get benefits]. May consider something sister suggested too.

Also looking at jobs at Apple retail ;)> Getting up to speed with iOS 14, Big Sur, Pages and maybe iMovie. I have the rekindled enthusiasm about their hardware (Bouncing Baby M1 MBA arrived last night - okay, not bouncing 😋) and certainly know enough about being a wonderful and frustrated customer to deal with situations. Will write MBA off as business expense.

So working on being positive, keeping myself and mom healthy, and knowing that our needs are covered and money keeps flowing in.

@yaxomoxay thinking of you and your relatives. Will wish for health and good news.

Hope everyone else is okay.

Good luck. Apple retail doesn’t sound like it’s a great place to work though. Hope something better comes along.

The very best of luck with it.

While money (and income and remuneration) is important, of, at least equal importance is a work environment and a decent boss.

For myself, almost forgot to put out the bins, and palsied it, belatedly, this morning, a nagging feeling at the back of my mind the there was "something" I needed to do today.

Hailstones, here.....brrrr.

Yes, at previous job: had a wonderful boss and team at one site and a decent team at the other. If this current job taught me anything, it’s keep my personality and good humor. I’d forgotten how a negative work environment can impact me.

Hailstones...wow.

@Apple fanboy indeed.

Hope you and everyone else are okay.
