I must be seeing different things partly because I follow a lot of athletes, a few actors and aviation people on IG and tiktok and my search suggestions are filled with Star Trek, Dr Who, Attack on Titan and sports (especially figure skating) posts and memes. Stop looking at that stuff and less of that will be fed to you. Here is a very nice IG account: The Happy Broadcast and an unusual TikTok account: Vibes you Crave
Well, I kind of asked for that by browsing them. On IG I only follow a few friends, athletes, david lynch channel, and jocko willinks and nothing else. No big wig hollywood star or musician, not trendy stuff etc. So yes, the first reels were all about David Goggins or stuff like that. After a while, idiotic videos started to pop up, and the more I checked the more I saw them. I wonder if the algorithm throws something totally irrelevant in to see if it works as a hook.

It‘s turning frosty here so it‘s time to bring the sensitive plants indoors.

I recently discovered the slow eating movement. I can't say that I am a slow eater (I mean, I am damn hungry!), but sometimes I take the time to truly enjoy the sip of coffee, or what I am eating, closing my eyes and trying to "meditate" on what I am drinking/eating.

I am very much a passionate fan of both the Slow Food Movement (which was founded in Bra, Piedmont, - I've dined in the restaurant where it was founded) and the slow eating movement.

Dining with friends - congenial friends, good food, company and conversation washed down by fine wines - and taking the time to savour this, enjoy this, - is one of life's great pleasures and - to my mind, at least - a mark of a civilised, cultured, and elegant existence, or life.

Those times you realize that you share an opinion with someone whose overall world view you generally despise.

In other news, the trailer for the second half of the last season of Attack on Titan has dropped, @Septembersrain may find this of interest as she is the only other member who I know has watched this anime.

OMG the character in my avatar - Levi Ackerman - doesn't look too well here:

ouch

Still I have to say and this is a spoiler for non-manga readers:

I have seen images with his head and eye bandaged up - damn social media showing spoiler images even though I have not read the manga - that indicated Levi survives the exploding thunderspears.

Aside from me not really being a fan of MAPPA compared to WIT in animation style, I'm excited. I saw the trailer too. Yeah, all the people in groups who didn't read the manga or see the spoilers were panicked over Levi.

I read that Isayama wanted to kill him off. So if the anime diverts...

What, wait, there's now an identified and named movement for people to eat slowly? Well, that's something I've always done!

Likewise.

Actually, I think it is called "finding your tribe".

Mind you, I had never heard of the "slow eat" movement, (whereas the "Slow Food" Movement is quite well known), but I find myself entirely in agreement with the worthy concept.

Now I'm confused. Are these "slow eating" and "slow food" things two separate "movements?" What's the difference? Why and how?

I have always eaten slowly due to physical issues, nothing to do with some trendy "slow eating" movement. That said, yes, eating more slowly does have benefits, especially as it can keep someone's weight under better control if they're not wolfing down their food and subsequently taking in a zillion more calories than they would if they simply ate more thoughtfully and slowly so that they become satiated in an appropriate time and therefore stop eating.

Well, people also need to be discriminating about where they eat and why they choose to spend money in a particular place. Fast-food joints are something that I avoid like the plague. It's no wonder the US has such a high rate of obesity -- too many people spend too much time and money eating in places like that rather than choosing healthier choices.

The "Slow Food Movement" was founded in Bra, Piedmont (northern Italy), in 1989, to - according to their site - "promote locally sourced food, and to prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions, counteract the rise of fast life and combat people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from and how our food choices affect the world around us."

"Slow Food believes food is tied to many other aspects of life, including culture, politics, agriculture and the environment."

My friend, the cheesemonger, is closely involved with the Slow Food Movement, hence, I have some idea of what it involves, as I accompanied him - twice - to the International Cheese Festival in Bra, (where the Slow Food Movement was also prominent).

Slow eating, well, that is a personal preference, one that I share, but - if it is something other than a personal choice - I had not heard of it prior to this evening, when it was mentioned on this site.

Isayama Hajime, the George R.R. Martin of anime. :p I heard he wanted to kill off Sasha in season 2 but was persuaded to spare her only to have her offed in season 4 part 1. Well the anime has been pretty faithful to the manga so far so I doubt it will change but I doubt Levi will play a "badass" role.I can't wait to see how the rumbling and conflict between the Yeagerists, Alliance and Marley plays out plus the upcoming temporal stuff with the "Paths" (which I am glad I figured out myself, plenty of clues especially for a long time Trekkie and Dr Who fan like myself).

One of the benefits of moving to Europe is coming back to roots of local and varied food cultures ands also - sadly - seeing the growth of a fast food culture, including eating quick lunches. I was horrified to see a Dunkin Donuts open at the Geneva main railway station, not far from a boulanger called "Pret a manger" which is one of several excellent bakeries and pastry shops. I recommended to my American study abroad students, and they agreed to my pleasant surprose, to go to the local shops rather than Dunkin. I was told by them that anyway Dunkin is not great and that in the US Krispy Kreme make much better donuts. In any case, even the local fast food, be it shwarma or kebab or the burger chains like "Holy Cow" are far superior and much more enjoyable.

Lunch is usually a quick affair. I tend to go out for a walk before eating when working, so doesn’t leave much time for slow eating.

Evenings tend to be a bit more leisurely.

He positively had zero qualms with killing off his characters. It's an extremely elaborate story that doesn't shy away from horror. Truthfully this anime/manga really caught me off guard when I first watched it. I think what surprises me now is the fandom. Plenty of weird.

On another topic, slow eating. I've had to do that my whole life. My family has a hereditary issue with our esophagus and food getting stuck in it. So no matter where or what I'm eating, I have to do it slowly or I'll choke. While this is normally not an issue, it's not helping me during this health crisis. I am still only 102 lbs. Lots of uphill battle here.

Tim Tams need to be eaten slowly, especially the Dark Chocolate ones.
You need to savour the chocolate, the mix of bitter and sweet. You need to appreciate how the crunchy biscuit blends in with the filling as you munch.

Crumpets, OTOH, including the square ones, with equal parts crumpet, butter and good, dark, bush honey, should to be scoffed quickly.

Also, what happened to my coffee? It was full when I started this reply, now it's empty.

Marmalade should be bitter.

Beautifully bitter.
Is that you Paddington?

Friend of mine always buys the marmalade with the peel in it, but then picks the bits out. I said why don’t you just buy the one without? He said he doesn’t like it without!

We used to have lime marmalade as a kid. But these days I don’t have any as I don’t eat more than 3 slices of bread a week.

But what’s the difference between marmalade and jam?

Hope everyone is good…we’re hanging in.

Yesterday’s technology silliness in verse.

I knew I was at it too long when I heard Barbara Streisand :eek::rolleyes:singing this in my head:

Dongles...why must your connecting cable be so short?
Dongles...because your laptop doesn't have enough ports
Dongles...you make me sad
Dongles...look at all these wires, it's pretty bad

The dongle life is pretty rife and makes my desk a mess
The OEMs are laughing at consumers' duress

Technology it used to be
A breeze
Machines stayed out of your way
So you could work and play
Okay
Now it's just a smash and grab
What technocrat must I appease?
Hear the bean counters giggling,
As these wires are wiggling and getting in the way

Dongles...you make me sad
Dongles...look at all these wires, it's pretty bad.

I'll need another desk just for my reference and homework
Don't get me started on Windows 11 and macOS Big Sur
Dongles and wires and drives.. oh my!
Somewhere a wonderful desktop with many ports lurks-
Where can it be?
Dongles you make me cry...
