I received some admission decision letters today. I got into one school, but not the other one. It was worth a shot though, and I was kind of expecting to not get into the second one given its competitiveness. Still waiting to hear back from the third and haven't yet auditioned for the fourth. So yeah.

Thinking of Karma/Dharma of how that circulates in various places and environments.
Can be both funny/blessings/tragical, depending on how or when you look at it.

I ordered a Noreve case for my mums new iPad for Christmas. It arrived in the UK at customs on November 26th, but I have absolutely no idea when I’ll get it! I emailed Noreve who said it’s due to all the strikes, they are a French company. They said I could contact British Customs but I have no idea how? But I thought they were striking too. Even so I can believe it would take several weeks for them to send a iPad case from the customs warehouse to me?

My understanding (and this could be wrong) is that it's Border Force that are striking and that will affect passenger air travel in the main. Also, if there's customs duties to be paid, isn't it the post office that effectively collects that on delivery? It might be that's where the hold up is as they're striking and there's now a humongous backlog of post. At the moment everyone I know is dealing only with courier companies as PO stuff is taking forever and I suspect a lot will get delivered after Xmas.

Their won’t be any customs duty to collect, it’s a leather case and duty usually is only on things like electronics, also I bought a case from them in February and had no duty to pay then. And you are right it’s Border Force who are striking, apparently only in certain airports so that shouldn’t have any impact.

I thought they were meant to be using other couriers if Royal Mail was meant to deliver it? Can I even get another courier to collect it for me?

I've got a friend in the Post Office and we were chatting about all this the other day - unfortunately if the Post Office are involved in any way with this delivery and it's in one of their depots at the moment then things might not be looking too good as there are absolutely horrendous backlogs. (In our case even xmas cards are taking two weeks to arrive.) There's also been something of a knock on effect to the couriers like Everi (Hermes) etc. Perhaps get a real cheapo case locally to tide her over until this one turns up I know not the same but...

Hmm oh well, thanks for the info from your friend. Her new iPad is a total surprise, she originally only asked for a new Noreve case to replace her current one as it’s a bit tatty but it’s lasted 5 years or more now of everyday use, not too bad. I did manage to get a screen protector on it yesterday so that may be enough for the moment, otherwise I’ll do as you said and get a cheap case.

Wondering how to not get pigeon holed into my position. Just in case the day comes that I need to find alternative employment, opportunities for my current role might be few and far between, if at all.

Rather worrying, as I think about getting older...

I fell into my career in purchasing about 20 odd years ago. I do many other things for my firm, but mostly I'm the purchasing manager. Been with my current firm 15 years in March.

I had my fifth vaccination for COVID (the bivalent one this time) a few weeks ago. I am missing a bit of lung on both sides, and I am entering my sixth decade…

Speaking of lungs: a co-worker’s wife caught COVID for the 2nd time last month. She got over the mild symptoms very quickly (much better than the 1st time), but was suffering from “long COVID”. She got tired quickly, had trouble breathing at times, and couldn’t remember things.

She finally went to their family doctor, and he thought it may be a blood clot or a heart issue. They went to a specialist last week, and after some tests, it turns out she has a collapsed lung. 🤯🤯🤯 She hadn’t suffered from pneumonia or other recent respiratory illness (except COVID), or any blunt force trauma. She doesn’t scuba dive or skydive. The doctors believe it’s highly likely that illness is the cause, which in this case, was her COVID.

I hope she recovers completely and soon. Suffice it to say I wouldn't wish air hunger on my worst enemy.

Ordered a fairly expensive book from the United Kingdom. I received the following message from the seller:

“We're emailing you to let you know that the following ordered items have been despatched”

I am not sure why, but the use of “despatched” rather than the American “shipped” makes it sound so important and official. For a second I felt like Tommy Lascelles reading a war telegram in preparation for a meeting with the King.

One word suffices to explain this, because, of course, prior to a few short years ago, there used to be no difficulty whatsoever in despatching a leather case from France to the UK.

It has six letters and begins with a capital "B".

Ah, despatched. A lovely, elegant and exquisitely formal verb.

Lol you are barking up the wrong tree there. Also this is NOT the political forum.

As someone who has worked in logitfor years I can tell you moving stock between the UK and Europe has never been harder. It took me as long to ship a pallet to our warehouse in Germany as it did to ship a container from China earlier this year. It’s a nightmare!

The artisan sausages (that I had ordered for Christmas) that DPD informed me by text were to have been delivered within a window (a time frame) of an hour which expired several hours ago.

I checked their website and - having inputted the relevant number - was informed that my "parcel is on a van and is due for delivery" at a time that elapsed around four hours ago.

Now, needless to say, of course, I fully understand that it is the Yuletide season, and that it is exceptionally busy, and, to be perfectly candid, I am in no particular hurry - for, I would be happy to receive (and welcome) the sausages tomorrow or the following day, or the day after that again.

But, if I receive a message informing me to expect delivery of a parcel within a specific timeframe of an hour, then, - as I will have adjusted my daily activities accordingly - I tend to expect that that parcel will arrive within this stated window.

I will say that I have noticed (ever since the advent of Covid) that DPD's undertsanding of what constitutes time has become increasingly elastic.

All couriers are overworked at this time of year. But this years postal strikes have increased the pressure.

Fed up with talking to Mrs AFB via text. But she is isolating from me and neither of us are up to shouting. Not a good way to carry on a relationship. Her stuck in the lounge and me in the bedroom.
It’s just temporary… take it as an exercise in strengthening your relationship. FaceTime is your friend.

Decent Brother phoned earlier today (during lunchtime); bless him, he thought that today was the anniversary (the fourth) of my mother's (well, our mother's) death, but that is actually tomorrow; he was shocked, poor chap.

Anyway, as always, we had a nice chat.
