Yes I suspect it might be an early start and early finish for the bin men. Probably should just be grateful they are not on strike with the rest of the country right now.

And the text message I received from them instructed me to put them out tonight.

Yes, I also suspect that there will be an early start and an early finish, too, for the bin men this week.

And yes, I am grateful that they will be collected.

Actually, this was one of the (many) things that the carer used to take care of, when she lived with us, even when I was around (well, I was away, working, for much of the time).

Bless her, for around a year - in fact, for at least, a year - after my mother's death, - when she was working for another family - she would text me the night before the bins were due to be collected, with a reminder to remember to put the bins out.

We put a reminder in the calendar. Then we can remember if its recycling or rubbish each week.

We should rename this thread bin talk!

Tomorrow I'll be working from home. I doubt it will be a very busy day thought. Most of the staff are off and pretty much all of my suppliers are closed. But we have a stock take on Thursday, so there will be some preparation for that.

In truth, normally, I don't have a problem recalling which week it is re bin collection; however, around Christmas, normal timetables can be (and often, are) suspended or transformed, or the relevant services deferred, or simply not resumed until the New Year.

Until I received their text message this evening, I wasn't sure what was planned.

Our bin night is tonight (Wednesday). Just to make sure, there is a reminder on my phone that goes off every Wed. evening. Haven't missed a bin night since I set it up.
The bins get collected sometime tomorrow, usually, but not always, before noon.
We have three bins, normal garbage, recycling and green waste. We get charged accordingly on the size of garbage bin we want, so we got the smallest (120 litre). The other two are free.
Since my beloved has been going on a purge of the garden (ranging from pruning shears, through whipper snipper up to a chainsaw), the green waste has been overflowingly full for the past several weeks.

As for knives, a sharp knife is definitely a safe one. Unless...
I was in the shopping centre, lined up at a butcher shop. Young man, newly employed, was separating a stack of frozen pork leg chops. He was trying to slip a knife blade between the chops, and then levering them apart. Except he had inserted the knife on the far side of the stack of chops, with the blade pointing at his abdomen. We all watched in horror, not being able to say a thing, expecting a self-disembowelment at any moment. He looked up, saw our faces, looked down at what he was doing, and turned his work around, to our relief.

PS. 11:30 pm. All bins are out. All knives in use are sharpened. Latest episodes of "All Creatures" and "Death in Paradise" watched.

Since this is edging perilously close to becoming a bin thread, I'll weigh in. We have the option of trash pickup out here in the sticks, but since there is a County transfer station with dumpsters located a mile from our home, we elected to take the self-service route. Doing so saves quite a bit of money and effort since the transfer station is on the way for most of our trips off the farm.

It's a well-run County site, and has dumpsters for old tires, furniture, metals, corrugated cardboard, and aluminum cans, plus a large container for used motor oil. They also accept old batteries and paint. It's quite handy.

Our local tip is excellent too. Where I used to live a Saturday morning could be an hour wait in the summer. Here it’s straight in, straight out. Only about 3 miles from home to.

Did it ever rise?

Well, yes,....during that recent frigid, freezing spell, the barometer was at the height/level that would accompany a glorious heatwave in summer.

However, it was falling last night, and has been tumbling today.

Did it ever rise? Sat here in 4 layers. Welcome to the future people!
I'm currently attired in three cosy layers, and am debating a fourth (which is what I have donned in recent weeks).

Wishing you all a happy new year.
Just realised, after watching the Sydney fireworks on TV, that we cheat, here.
We are running on Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time, so we are celebrating NYE an hour ahead of when we should...
Anyway, we still have the best fireworks, on the best backdrop (Sydney Harbour), from the best launch site - Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Oh dear. Hope you are not short of any essentials.

Here a pretty lazy day. Developing a headache this evening though. Early night me thinks.

Well, just French bread.

I had phoned the French bakery yesterday - my usual Friday call - to hold a baguette and rye bread for me, (which they usually do without any problem, and they even have them nicely bagged before I even show my friendly features) but - to my utter stupefaction - they were shut when I headed in around four (16.00) - normally, they don't shut until six on a Saturday, and 17.00 most other days.

The cheesemonger's (where I thought to buy some bread), was also shut.

I'm kicking myself because it is a Bank Holiday week-end, but, to be candid, it is entirely my own fault.

Weather. Afte the snowstorm of the century in Buffalo NY last week, we are in the 50s now, with a high of 61 this Tuesday.

So...global warming, with weather extremes? Sure sounds like it. It's been like this for a decade or more here in Western NY. One day, its 10 degrees. Then the week after, it's 60 in January.

We eat so little bread I keep a loaf in the freezer. Lasts about a month or so.

Well, the rye bread I buy each week from the French bakery generally lasts for well over a week, and toasts beautifully.

As I still have half a loaf left from just before Christmas, I'm probably okay until Tuesday, especially if I choose to forego bread on one of the coming days.

Re headaches - you mentioned that one is developing - hydration, sleep, - perhaps some sort of pill to alleviate pain - and an early night might help.

Took some ibuprofen and have already headed to bed. Had plenty of tea all day. Still the lingering effects of Covid I think.

Take care of yourself.

The ibuprofen should take care of things, and plenty of tea sounds an excellent idea.

Decent Brother has been on the phone for the past half hour or so for a chat and to wish me a Happy New Year, bless him. Now, he shall watch Netflix, while I have just opened a beer.

Was that your priceless claim that iOS users don’t get spam calls? While wrong I don’t think that will get you banned. They even let you write messages with no sane use of line breaks and the results looking like broken limericks and the world hasn’t stopped spinning. 😀
