Been and gone. Chicken and rice noodles today. Nothing exciting. Just the usual.
Washing up done and dishwasher loaded. Rubbish and recycling out.
Trying not to think of work in the morning but failing big time.

No, you don't.
I never did, and neither did my mother.
I loathe winter, the cold, the wet, the short days, above all, the darkness, and miserable quality of what limited light that there is.
I fail to see the pros of winter in our corner of northern Europe.

Sounds like an interesting combination I’ve not tried before. Do you mix the wine and espresso into a single cup? Or do you use a single glass? Or is the a two fisted operation, with a glass of wine in one hand and a cup of espresso in the other?
It is Sunday and I’m a bit punchy.

Espresso in the mornings and afternoon, wine in the evenings (and, occasionally, late afternoon).
Both consumed in the same day, but not, as it happens, together.

Probably finished my alcohol consumption for 2024 in Paris last weekend. I think I'm down to less than 8 pints a year these days (beer not wine!).

My last Air Force assignment was at Grand Forks, ND. Much worse winters than even Sioux Falls, where I grew up. There was one 10-week period where it never got above -20º F (-29º C), then add the wind to that...
If we were out at a missile silo doing maintenance, you had to go outside to relieve yourself, and your urine stream would freeze before it hit the ground (think this is where the term "tinkling" came from).
But the summers were worse! Summer in North Dakota is only about six weeks long, and the mosquitoes were so bad I could rarely step outside. What a miserable place.

I am shocked to see all of the hate for winter! It's my favorite time of year. The snow makes everything pretty, the cold is a perfect excuse to stay inside and enjoy the fire while having some tea, or playing a game on playstation, and if you work remotely you don't have to worry about the drive into and back from work.
Edit: I forgot to mention how nice it is to sleep in during the winter because it's still dark in the morning 🙂
I personally hate the heat, summer sucks. I am perpetually hot, even with AC and every time I want to go out and do something it's always super busy because surprise surprise, everyone else also wants to go out when it's sunny!

haha. Years ago my wife started a fire in the freezer in one of our refrigerators.I'm wondering how I can fix this, does someone have a solution?
I’m with you! I love winter for the scenery, and also because it’s cold, while also hating summer because of the reasons you mentioned (plus mosquitos)

Each to their own.
Personally, I detest the cold, (and I deeply dislike both ice and snow), the wet, and, above all, the darkness, short days, and poor - actually abysmal - quality of light that you get in northern latitudes in the deepest, darkest, and most depressing, days of winter.

Yes the cold plus poor light. Soon I’ll be driving into work in the dark and leaving in the dark. Always my least favourite time of year. Also a few dates in November and December I will always loathe for the rest of my life.
Can we just skip to Spring?

Agreed, completely, utterly and totally. Actually, passionately agreed.
Winter driving in places like Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska is far more difficult than in North/South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Snow is fine if you have it every year so you are set up for it.
Here in the UK schools close, roads are virtually impassable and the world goes down the toilet if we get half an inch.

Here in the PNW, we usually get a decent amount of snow each year. Sometimes it's a little. Sometimes it's way too much for us to handle. Whenever a snow storm comes through, we have plows, de-icers and every other deterrent deployed to make sure the roads (for the most part) are still drivable. The schools will only close if the roads are just too slick and treacherous for the buses to safely drive on and even then, it has to be a STUPID amount of snow.
Years ago, my sister moved down to Georgia for school and the winter she moved there, they got a freak snow storm. If I recall, it was about 6" of snow for the entire city of Atlanta. My sister described it as walking through a ghost town. She had zero problem driving on the roads, because she grew up driving in snow and 6" isn't terrible BUT she was the only one driving. Atlanta (to my knowledge) does not have snow plows or de-icers or melting salt and they had to wait for the snow to melt because it absolutely paralyzed the city.
