Having used the Pre, I think the two areas the iPhone needs improvement are notifications and quick setting toggles.

The current notification system, while appropriate in some cases, is extremely irritating in others. When I'm browsing the web, I do not want a popup to cover what I'm trying to read.

Quick settings, a la Palm Pre, would allow users to turn off WiFi or Location Services with a quick tap on the status bar. You would no longer need to exit what you're doing to make simple changes to the phone.

With these two changes, I feel the user experience would be improved greatly and would remove the biggest, legitimate complaints.
