i used the iPhone X for close to 2 years and was just gifted an XS Max and I’m having a hard time adjusting to the size difference and I’m trying to understand what the benefits of the large form factor is, I think the iPhone X was much more comfortable to hold and handle and I kinda wish they gave me an XS instead to be honest.

These of you that purchased the XS Max instead of an XS, what was the reason?

Thanks in advance.

I don't own a Max but my understanding is that outside of the obvious increase in real-estate, there's some apps that utilize landscape mode. A nice feature, but not worth it IMO.

The bigger screen size is really the only advantage. For me personally I love the bigger screen, Videos look awesome and the extra real estate is great.... Give it some time and you will probably get used to the size. Your brain will adjust and it will feel normal to you.

Does the xs max even have any internal spec advantage over the xs other than the screen?

Lots of people prefer the XS, exactly because they value the comfortable device size over screen size. One is not "better" than the other.

For me

Bigger screen
Better camera
Battery life

Worth it for me...but the iPhone X still works very well for most use cases

I’ve been using a larger iPhone since the 6 Plus was released. I prefer the larger screen and better battery life. I can use it as a one handed device 95% of the time. The benefits far outweigh the drawbacks for me.

I tried the X but coming from a 6S Plus I found the screen too long and narrow, it didn’t feel at all balanced in my hand, typing was horrible and don’t even mention battery life. The Max on the other hand is great, battery excellent, screen width perfect, a bit too tall for me as I like 16:9 screens but other than that this is the first year in ages that I have zero interest in upgrading. Oh and the dual Sim capability really made the difference to me, no more carrying, updating and charging 2 phones.

I went from an X to an XS Max recently.

I was unsure about holding out until this years release.

Made the jump and wouldn’t look back now.

Bigger screen
Better battery
Better camera
And slightly faster

I thought Apple hit the sweet spot for me with the size of the X and it’s screen. Now I have the Max, I wouldn’t go back. The X feels too small and narrow now. I love the size of the keyboard especially.

I now believe that the Max really is the sweet spot that I cannot see me going bigger or smaller.

From iPhone 6s Plus to iPhone XS Max, I’d say speed is the biggest improvement, as well as the camera. Design wise I hate notch but it won’t go away any time soon. I also hate thin Bezel but this is a bit more of a problem on an iPad than on an iPhone, and I have yet encounter a huge amount of accidental touches during my first week. Overall ok, not great, but ok.

No one purchases the Max for any other reason except for the screen size, that’s it. I know that’s been mentioned many times in this thread, but if you want the extra real estate for video/gaming/media, then the Max is the clear choice.
