What's the best mattress for back problems?

Ask 100 people and you will get 50 different answers. Buying a mattress is truly one of those personal tastes (like buying a specific shoe for sore feet). Back, side, or belly sleeper? Type of back problem?

Nothing to get the root of, my wife has scoliosis. She insists on getting a new bed.

Have you thought about going at it a different route and maybe looking into getting a specialty pillow?? It's a MUCH cheaper option and may provide you the same benefit as a new mattress.

See above.

Sleep numbers aren't worth the coin they're seeking for them. I've slept on a number of them, Radisson Hotels have switched to them I believe. They're not awesome if you're an edge sleeper and not awesome if you care to sleep in the center. I've thought about memory foam but I am not 100% sure that would suit me and that whole "try and return" comes at a hefty cost of UPS freight.

Tomorrow's post about the memory foam being hotter, I have heard this as well. It actually is widely reported that memory foam retains heat. Whether that has bothered people in the past or not or whether it is true is beyond me.

Definitely memory foam.

I've got a memory foam for a couple of years. Mine is beginning to develop "sweet spots" on my side of the bed.:( I still sleep better on it than a spring mattress though.

I also have no idea what a sumo wrestler's ass crack smells like. Seems to be a unique skill set for you. ;) :D

Must be a former WWE employee...back when Rikishi was still active with the WWE. His trademark "stinkface" was a fan favorite.

My Sleep Number Bed was worth every red cent to me! You mean in your opinion, of course. If you sleep in the center, I assume you'd be sleeping alone, or perhaps with an "edge sleeper". You don't have to get a "split bed" with dual controls. You can have one with a single "chamber", making sleeping in the center the same as sleeping on one side or the other. Of course, if they make a twin, it can't be split.

What does an "edge sleeper" do? ...hang a foot off the edge? (and lay a row of pillows on the floor alongside the bed to cushion the fall)!
