I have an S7 edge that I had before I moved to England. It is a great phone and I still use it to stream videos to my TV with Chromecast.

What a great gift for your mother, wow! Upgrading my own ancient iPad to an iPad Pro was my best move in 2017. Waited so long that I'm too embarrassed to hand the old one down; it will end its days as a recipe server in the kitchen.
Well, yes, you probably can, and you would be quite right.
Mind you, Other Brother didn't do too badly; this past year, also for his birthday, he inherited my 2014 maxed out 13" MBA (again, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD).
Well, in Decent Brother's case, it was a Big Birthday - for his previous Big Birthday, I had got him a set of superb stains steel saucepans (including a sauté pan) made by Fissler in Germany.
This year (well, last year, now) my birthday gift from Decent Brother was a ticket to Pink Martini during their European Tour.
Well hopefully that was something you wanted! I'm sure it was as it was from decent brother.
Oh, yes, I love Pink Martini; curiously enough, I hadn't known about their upcoming tour - it was Other Brother who told me about it, sort of hinting that it might make a good birthday present; Decent Brother was more than happy to follow through with the suggestion as he knows I love Pink Martini.
I have bought in 2017 a rubber band which used to cost 1 ($0.0015). Yes, it was that cheap and I ordered online.
