never had; but i can say one thing that always gets scratched even after always putting a screen protector and using a case the moment i open a new phone is the stupid charging port; it’s always scratched in the long run. My iphone 13 pro max is like new but the metal around the charging port

I go to Apple Stores to purchase my iPhones and get the staff to apply the screen protectors using their devices & I pick up a case whilst I am in there. For that reason, I have never damaged an iPhone.

Personally never damaged my own personal phones. But I know a friend who cracked his iphone screen just a month after it was fixed (for shattered screen as well).

I did the exact same thing with my 13 mini - however I managed to drop it 2 months in and got a miniature crack in the screen right in between the screen protector and the case (typical).
The screen protector took the brunt of the impact but still had to use my AppleCare to replace the screen.

A friend of mine trashed his new 13 Pro Max 30 minutes after he bought it. Forgot it was sitting in his lap and opened his truck door and it fell to the concrete breaking both screen and glass back. It was a sad day.

However quick any of us damaged a new iPhone, this poor kid will forever take the award:

I still feel sorry for the guy… unboxing a brand new phone on the street with a TV crew and a group of people around him… when I unbox a device I clean the tabletop first and wash my hands! Can’t imagine doing it while standing, let alone on the street!

Ouch, that’s an unfortunate freak accident. I always prefer getting the staff to apply the screen protector because they get it perfect anytime. I’ll do the same with my next phone which ever model that’ll be.

iPhone 6+, 7 months. Dropped getting into my car. Shattered the screen. But hey, the screen protector didn't get a scratch on it!

iPhone 11 Pro Max, 1 year 3 months. Went to unlock the phone, fumbled it and dropped it on concrete. It landed on the back, the impact pulverizing the rear glass and causing the screen to crack from underneath.

In both cases, when this happened, I was not feeling well and therefore not paying my usual attention. Also, I don't use cases, which is why my paying attention is important.

Both phones were replaced within about a week of the damage. The 11 PM is currently my primary iPhone and this incident happened in May 2022 (I got the phone in February 2021).

This happened to my screen crack repaired iPhone 4 within 30 minutes after getting it back from repair. :(
Haven't damaged my followup iPhones (6+, X and 11 Pro).

This is the first time I’m seeing that video and now I feel scarred for life. Poor kid.

I’ve never had an unboxing accident but this video has changed me forever.

One time I was taking the iPhone out of the box for the first time and within seconds ... it slipped out of my hand and cartwheeled across the tile floor. From that day forth, all new iPhones I buy gets a case and screen protector the moment they leave the box. I also make sure to open the box while surrounded by soft flooring. I'm the King of Klutz.

I remember seeing this and I could also not help feeling so sorry for this kid. Life can be very unfair😭

I never damaged one. Using iPhones since 3GS with cases, without screen protectors. However one thing is guaranteed: whoever I pass my iPhone to, it will get damaged within the first year. RIP in pieces 3GS (cracked corners, around the port), 4 (cracked screen, unresponsive home button), 6S (damaged screen showing a strip of pixels on one side). I put SE1 into super rugged case, still holding up (I hope). 8 took some beating but not cracked (yet).

I generally crack either the front or back once a year. I'm not too fussed with the cosmetic tbh, it probs has a few scratches here and there.

The fastest damage ever was the iPhone X, dropped, cracked the back. I remember paying £550ish for a replacement device as they could not repair the back at that time.

Now there is third party solutions

Since then I have insurance, which covers same day replacement iPhone in an Apple white box replacement.

1-2 hrs after my 13 mini arrived I dropped it on Costco floor near the clothing area. Just a small nick kn the bottom part sadly covered with a case.
