Why all the newbies all of a sudden? Apple has been putting out one hell of a brilliant advertising blast. It isn't just "ads" in mags and TV, it's viral and local and word of mouth. iPhone is the #1 story right now.

To spice things up, there is the gossipy fight among big players, notably Google and Apple. This is going to change the way we do things in business and at home.

So, we are all curious and revved up about Apple and what it can do and what it will do. And their products.

Personally, I have been a member of this forum for over a year. I was mildly curious but felt that Apple products were out of my price range. I am a small business person. But as I came to rely on my smartphone more and more, I came to think that it would be wiser for me to have a great smartphone rather than a cheap one. So, I visited here more frequently to help make decisions.

I have asked a number of esoteric questions and gotten some very very good answers. I have learned, changed my mind, and made better decisions because I came here, listened and asked and acted. What brought me here was my business and the need to communicate and a lot of the reason that I am interested in Apple rather than 'droid is how good the product is and a desire to share information with a community. By the way, I have actually ended up helping other people in my "real" community as well. They have asked me the same questions that I asked you as a newbie, and I do have the answers now at the basic level at least.

And I have ended up investing in Apple. I don't think I would have done that had I not known much about the product or been interested in it.

So, there's your answer. And it's not from a noob any more, I'm a member now. ;)

Hear, hear, I agree. This website gave me lots of information when I needed it and helped me plan my switch from Windows to Mac.

Sadly I am still a newb, but still learning a lot.

. tflournoy95, do yourself a favor and don't speak for "everyone else". I don't feel the way you feel. Newbies, or new members have often had a great deal to offer.

im not saying new members are all stupid. it just seemed like there were a lot of threads asking "whens the new mbps coming out" or something along those lines. and it seemed like most of the threads were started by new members. im not trying to make a generalization and say that all new members are stupid.

oh yeah and WOW when did this thread come back to life?

Using 'they're' instead of their annoys the mess out of me, and I'm new here so I guess we're even...

And, um, you have to have 250 posts to buy anything here!? Wow. I can understand that to sell anything, but buying? If the green is in your PayPal account, then you could ship me something, couldn't you!??? I'm lost...

ipod touch spell check. it never ceases to amaze me.

Am I the only one that considers it's strange that the OP has a problem with 'newbies' despite having only been around since September?

i dont have a problem with newbies. i have a problem with questions that either no one has a definite answer to or questions that have been answered a bazillion times. i could care less what somebody's "rank" is.

Yes, it's always frustrating to have Forum Spy flooded with a zillion duplicate threads on common topics such as "buy or wait", "my Mac has a virus", "13" vs 15"", etc., etc., etc.. However, I do have one point of curiosity. I noticed that a great number of the "MBP update" threads over the past week have been started by newbies whose first post in the forums is to start such a thread. Maybe it's a normal occurrence, but it made me wonder if several of those user accounts were set up by the same person, just to flood the forum with repetitive threads. I wonder if mods ever look at IP addresses of first-time posters to see if they may be multiple accounts by the same person.

2 accounts on one ip doesn't mean that the same person made 2 accounts. but i get what your saying.

Naw, man. That's what I like about these newbies; I get older, they stay the same age.

Alright, alright, alright.

It seems very relevant to post a comment here now that I am no longer a newbie. As it was on this thread I discovered how not to be a newb, it seemed appropriate to come back now I am a member. I now need to post 100 replies to get to the next level.:D

For me, it does not cease to surprise me how much Apple has grown and how many new users we have now. Thats fantastic, so many new people to share experiences of the Apple Inc that we all love :)

Quite a huge jump from the times of "Hahaha Apple sucks" back 2001. Until the Trojan Horse was released :D
