I've just got an iphone a few weeks ago... i think i'm in my almost third week and I used almost 2gb this month so far.... I was wondering when does at&t start to get mad? also anyone have any problems tethering on their network?

downloading apps, youtube, music streaming buying songs from itunes

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

6.3 GB

Holy cow. Wow. I've had my phone for almost the same amount of time (I got mine a week after launch) and I've only used about 250mb! Maybe I should start watching more YouTube. ;)

Then again, I usually use WiFi when I'm at home. It's faster and uses less battery. So that's probably why my usage is so low.

I use just under a GB a month. I am on 3G at work and wifi at home. I browse the internet alot while I'm at work  But only for looking at websites and mail. No streaming, no tethering.

Dude, don't you have wifi?

It's much faster, I try to stay on it whenever I can.

I probably use about 0.5 to 1.0 GB a month from AT&T, and more than twice that from my own wifi.

Does AT&T charge you since the soft cap is 5 GB.

No, there apparently is no soft cap, nor is there any documentation anywhere that references a 5GB cap on the iPhone plan. So if they were to try, you could easily sue them and win in small claims court.

I watch streaming video podcasts over 3G. I could use WiFi, but I pay for unlimited data so I might as well use it.

True. But if you're able to use wifi and it's faster, why would you impede the performance by just using 3G just because you want to use as much ATT bandwidth as possible?

I personally choose the best connection wherever I am - If I'm in a hotspot area or home - it's wifi and all other times - 3G.

I don't deliberately try and use up my 5000 nights and weekend minutes just because I have them ;)

Usage:
1GB data/month.
10,000 texts/month.

10,000 texts a month? Goodness thats like 14 per hour 24 hours a day. Say you sleep 6 hours a day, thats still 19 messages an hour while you are awake 18 hours a day. Did you know the iPhone can make phone calls also?

any good video podcasts you could recommend?

Also, and don't take this the wrong way, but what are you watching (and where, that has 3G) that's that entertaining, for what I assume is hours on end, on such a small screen?

I mean, 8 gigs of video podcasts every month is a lot.

I really just watch MSNBC news podcasts in the background at work. Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow. Or when I'm at home and doing the dishes and cleaning the kitchen. Meet the Press as well.

I've got data blocked and use my first gen as a "dumbphone", although it's still faaaaaaar from it. I tried a real dumbphone for a couple days (no camera, no outside display flip samsung) and the texting alone was killing me. T9's not as intuitive as I remember...

Makes sense.

Are these long format podcasts? I wonder if you can steam hours of TV style content - that'd be pretty cool.
