Fiber coming to my house :

Holy smokes.

I'm happy with this, given that I pay about $US 18.00 a month for lowest level of service - 10 Mb/s down and 0.56 Mb/s up.

Fibre came to the neighbourhood about 18 months ago, and I have wire to my apartment. Before that I used a so called 3G service, which promised up to 7.2 Mb/s @ about $US 20.00 a month. On occasion it did hit 1.5 Mb/s. but more typically it was down around 0.3 Mb/s, sometimes much less, not even 5% of what I paid for.

Two different local servers, and huge differences on my university network:

I love how Speedtest.net has an ad that says "You can get faster Internet now!" ....I don't think so. :p

Funny that my ping is so high, but I guess the Uni network has some stuff it has to go through. My 50/50Mbit/s fiber at home is at 2 ms.

Just an entry-level plan at home:

There are plans to bring 1000/500 here within the next couple of years, and the provider has done some trials with "NG-PON2" and got a whopping 61 Gb/s, but was quick to point out that it is still several years away from residential deployment.
