Well exactly one year after I first started this thread, I'll post an update. Mind you, I want App Store apps, not hacks:

* iWeb blogger tool (allowing you to post pics and text to an already published iWeb blog).
* iWork editor
* Last.fm scrobbler
* Snapture. If we can't have a better camera, I want more options! :D

i guess it's not an app but wouldn't it be cool if you could place your iphone on a charger and then have a bunch of cordless phones scattered around the house which all connect to the iphone. this way if the iphone was dead you could be charging it and be in a different room from the charger.

1. 3G Map App with visual AND Audible Turn By Turn Directions. And that will play through your Car stereo through Accessory Input jack.

2. Good Video Recording Program.

3. Good Audio Recording Program.

My dreams are lofty, but here goes nothing...

To-Do manager.

Notes that sync.

Pictures in text messages.

Different signature for every Email account.

The To Do manager sounds like something I'd find useful!
Can anyone receive pictures in text messages?

Mms

It's called MMS (multimedia messaging service), sort of the upgraded version of SMS. Been out in Europe at least 5 years. Not supported by th iPhone, with no plans for supporting it

Still, with push email and 3G, we'll have a brilliant service and no need for SMS or MMS at all so I'm not really complaining.

Okay, thanks. I knew what multimedia messaging is but didn't know that's what they were talking about. ;)

8-ball app

got bored at work so i decided to try and make a magic 8-ball app. you start it up its shows a alert on how to use it. you press down on the 8-ball with a finger and shake it and let it go it returns to teh center and tells you what it thinks. like i said i got bored not saying this is the best app but thought id share. oh btw since i wrote this in sdk and apple is bieng **** about uploading apps your going to have to wait till hacks come out to load your own sdk app to your phone, then youll be able to install. any comments pls leave msg or pm, thanks.

How about an camera-integrated application that can scan a barcode from a snapshot, and then connect you with reviews/prices/etc on the web? Basically, a copy of that program featured in the latest Wired issue for Google's android software.

That would be just plain cool.

I need an organizer for personal data. Bank accounts, frequent flier numbers, passwords, etc, all in a nice, organizable, secure place.
This is definitely needed.

a good checkbook app
Hello Quicken. Hopefully they will make a pocket/mobile version.

it would be cool to have a file vault to hide all the pictures I take of girls when im out from my GF
What I wish Apple would do, is to be able to create private folders for photos. That way the iPhone could easily be used for business type settings where you do not want to show your personal photos. In addition, this would solve your issue.

word processor please.
That would be nice.

A self destruct button?
:)

The old Palm Pilot PDA had that. You could just break it in two. :)

i would love to see a graphing calculator.
That would be sweet.

Copy and Paste
Hello Apple. Please make a clipboard app that an be shred by all applications.

Skype text-only client, on all the time (sort of available already)
That would be nice.

HP-12C Emulator, with glowing keys and clicks
Here's hoping for one that emulates the original HP-12C. That would be so nice.

To-Do manager.
Notes that sync.

Agree with these.

The To-Do manager should sync with iCal.

Notes should sync with a folder on your computer.

Barcode Reader
Interesting idea.

I'll add, in no particular order:

- Video app so you can take videos with the built in camera.

- Folders for applications like contacts so you can sort your contacts if you want. Business vs. Personal for example. And the ability for a contact to show up in both categories if you want.

- Newton Gulliver type app.

- Newton Calx type app.

AIM
MMS
RSS FEED

I cant think of any more that i would NEED, but i am sure i will. I think a little paint app would be pretty fun aswell. Draw with your finger ect..

1Password already does this for the Mac and have said they are working on a similar app for the iPhone.

SplashData also has a desktop password manager called SplashID and have said they are working on an iPhone version.

I use 1Password on my iMac and SplashID on my Treo and PC. Of the two I'd choose 1Password because it has better browser integration and the developers seem to have more Mac development experience.

I would like a doplar radar application to check to see if I'm in the line of a tornado or thunderstorm, ECT...

I agree. I can't believe that this isn't an integrated feature on google/maps yet. Google needs to hurry up and buy the national weather service. :)

an IM client (with yahoo and MSN) that did NOT log you out every time you left it sitting or switched to something else.

Something that syncs seamlessly with Google apps (Gmail - with push, GCal, Reader and Documents)

for free!!

I got one =] how about a app that lets you record video for jesus sake. lol

or

a game app that will allow you to fly a jet over Google maps in 3d =] so u can control it using the sensors.

or an app that will allow you to change the ugly black background behind the apps

My dream apps that have already been announced, or could be ported from jailbroken apps:
- VOIP app (iCall)
- Time/task organizer (OmniFocus)
- Sirius satellite radio over 3G

Apps that could be done:
- Adium, or something like it.
- NetNewsWire or similar RSS reader
- WiFi detector

My dream apps that are pipe dreams.
- App that lets me tether the iphone to my laptop so I could use its 3G.
- VOIP that works over 3G.
- App that allows me to download or stream music/video content from itunes on my home PC, via 3G or WiFi.

An iLoJack that would be activated from home computer when lost/stolen.
This would:
immediate lock all sensitive data
track GPS signal
broadcast photos from camera every minute(or a reasonable interval}
on cue set off unique audio alarm
