At the moment I like Myriad Pro.

I'm all about times new roman now. I used to like trebuchet but it started to look kind of funky in my work emails so I switched. TNR works great now and since I see it everywhere I don't get a font headache.

I've never particularly liked Helvetica (or Arial like the OP set 'Helvetica' in ;)), though I enjoyed the documentary. I don't necessarily pick favorites.

Well, since Melrose and OutThere kind of prematurely killed my experiment, how many of you actually noticed that "Helvetica" was set in Arial?

I'd have thought the "t" was a dead giveaway.

And if I had a t-shirt made that said "Helvetica" set in Arial, how many of would you would consider buying one?

I have two occupations, which require me to compose on-air graphics, web graphics, and bumper stickers -- so what I use tends to depend on what medium I'm working in. But here are the ones I tend to fall back on a lot:

:D Okay, I don't really use Halloween a lot -- I just like it. And I do find that Digital Strip is a nice substitute for Comic Sans in things like word balloons.

I also like Gotham quite a lot -- I just don't have it.

It was the tail on the "e" that gave it away. Thus,

Helvetica is squarer, a bit less rounded (e, a, o) and a bit thinner stroked.

Arial, contrary to popular opinion, wasn't originally made for Microsoft but was used because they wanted to cheap out and - rightfully - figured most people either wouldn't care or wouldn't notice.

it's got to be

Univers and
Gotham

...for me anyway...

Cynapse is pretty good too

And how do you guys feel about Arial?

Can't stand it; a horrible narrow font, to my eyes (literally) and one I find quite difficult to read; actually, I view it as an unfriendly font.

My personal favourites are Garamond - which has a lovely, timeless, elegance, and Arno which is an exceedingly elegant font. For everyday use, where personal favourites are not necessarily indulged, such as in a work environment, I quite like Times New Roman.

Cheers

Nimbus Sans

That brings back bad memories of an inhouse job that went from trouble to disaster. Useless makeweight family without the versatility of Helvetica Neue.

Gotham: nice, but not so great for logos. Gotham Rounded, one of the nicer rounded variants of a number of different sans. Today SB: nice contemporary humanist, large x height, troublesome ampersand. Stone family: an essential for any collection.

But really, my favourite fonts are whatever gets the job done at any given time. This week I've been working on a set of ads for diamonds that use Disturbance.
