I still haven't gotten an answer to my question. What's the real name for the big ****** toes? I've been looking around, and I think they might be Brazil Nuts. I may have to a store and look for some. Do they sell just Brazil Nuts?

Bridge Mix is good. Ever had Bridge Mix? You can get a 2 pound bag at Wal-Mart for like...a buck. Good stuff.

Brazil nuts are the toes of which you speak (yeah, that is what we called them as kids).

My vote - pistachios!

As an aside, peanuts are not nuts, but rather legumes.

So where abouts are you from? I'm trying to figure out if it's a regional thing.

Grew up in Southern Florida (near Ft. Lauderdale). I suspect it is (was) mostly a Southern US thing.

Cashews all the way. I could eat one of those Costco size tubs of the things. Any flavor is good too, but I do prefer either honey roasted or salted. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to run to Costco

Yeah...a lot of interesting idioms in the south.

Just polled the office and people from Colorado, California and Pennsylvania know of and used the term as well. So, I might have to re-think my theory 🙂

I often buy mixed nuts (salted) and like to eat one almond with one cashew
together. Tastes better than either separately.

Okay folks - time for a botany lesson.

Peanuts are not nuts!!! They are legumes in the family Fabaceae like clover, peas, and beans.

Sorry. The botanist in me gets carried away once in a while... I see hmmfe beat me to it.

And apparently bananas aren't fruit but tomatoes are 😱 Crazy!

Nuts are awesome, in particular pistachio, cashews, almonds and yes macadamias in that order, but my favourite snack is the sunflower seed ala Mulder 😱

My favorite nuts are the ones that have descended.
from down off a tree, of course. 🙂
mmmmm...and chocolate coated.
to be licked off buy nubile young blondes

Brazils covered in really good dark chocolate....

But when I'm actually trying to be vaguely healthy I like cashews and peanuts most out of the 'uncoated' nuts.

Can I big up seeds in this discussion? I really like sunflower seeds. Unbelievably good for you (link) if a bit fattening.

wing nuts
ginger nuts
kickinthe nuts
lock nuts
yourdrivingme nuts
youareplain nuts

the humour potential in a thread like this is nearly infinite

Nobody has said...

COCONUT

Hee Hee

I didn't know peanuts were not in fact 'nuts' - and I started the thread 😛

To keep the ball rolling lets move onto seeds - I just love pumpkin seads followed by chocolate covered sunflower seeds.....

Time to sow my seeds...ah that didn't come out right 😱

Hrm...seeds...Haven't had too many seeds to be honest with you. Just the average sunflower seeds. Those are pretty. Especially the pre-shelled ones, cause you can juse eat and eat.
