28 days later is nice too.

The thing about that movie is that it is not overtly scary in the "boo" sense, but that parts I saw ( I only have seen the second half) were scary because they gave you a real sense of being totally alone, which is scary in itself.

The Exorcist
Poltergeist
Amityville Horror
Nightmare on Elm Street ( I didn't sleep for 3 days when I was in high school after seeing that movie)
Alien

Have to agree with Alien and Nightmare On Elm Street. Two very unsettling films the first time around, anyway.

Event Horizon is a great flick. Very underated.

'Shudders' I went to see that at a late night screening when it came out, and had no idea what to expect. We were all left so down and disturbed we had to go back to a mates and watch an episode of 'Friends' to lighten up a bit before going to sleep!

Scary movies to me are ALL crap because they are just not scary. I guess I kind of look at them and wonder how they made 'the scary guy' so realistic (or not) and why no one phones the police when there is a crazed maniac after them, more than the story itself. The situations the films place the characters in would never happen and so make the film crap.

Thats my opinion take it as you will

*walks out mumbling "I'll probably get flamed"*

The SAW series is really good... freaky.
I also thought SE7EN was a good movie. They tend to lean on the more disturbing side of scary, but scary none-the-less

Now there's a film I haven't heard of for a LOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG time!

I love The Blair Witch Project, more psychological than most horror films. My mind can counjour up much scarier things than most films!

I dont enjoy scary movies, i dont enjoy some girls/guy walking in a dark house then something appers and teh sound goes up in a way to scare you, thats not fun to me. I enjoy scary movies like signs, where you dont jump bec of loud sounds.

Poltergeist
According to IMDb, I was about twelve years when "Poltergeist" was released, and that movie seriously messed me up. So I don't know that I'd call it my "favorite" scary movie -- I won't watch it now.

If I want to be scared, I prefer suspense, like any number of Hitchcock movies, or the great "Wait Until Dark". Now that's a scary movie!

Two more:

The Fog (Original) and In the Mouth of Madness.

The fog scared the crap out of me when I was little. I used to be scared everytime there was fog outside.

In the Mouth of Madness was a freaky movie. Highly underated.

As a kid--Friday the 13th's were my favorite scary movies to watch....but as an adult, the Blair Witch Project was really the most terrifying movie to me. I wigged out for days...NO joke. I saw it back in 1999 so I wonder what would happen now if I watched it!

Oh yeah, and I saw the preview for the Grudge 2 last night---that might be scary!!

"Wait Until Dark" is one of my favorite movies of all time!

I'll have to watch some of these ones that you guys are mentioning, cause I haven't been scared at any movie recently.

And I saw "Blair Witch Project" when I was like 14. Not only wasn't I scared at all...but it's one of the stupidest movies I've ever seen. So much hype.

Alien or John Carpenter's The Thing. They don't make scary movies like they used to.
That's why some don't care for the bulk of scary movies. No good surprises. Don't run away in to the woods, please. Don't go down the stairs to the basement alone, please. Don't walk backwards in to the dark space, please. Here comes the soundtrack hint, oh-oh It's all so predictable.

Now, if some shadowy figure suddenly appears behind a shower curtain with no hinted music........
