What's your most favorite american accent and why?
Mine is the Southern accent. I just think it's pretty cool.

Southern California.

Not the valley-girl/ditz affectation, but just normal Southern Californians. We pronounce our "r"s and all of that good stuff.

Mine (Northern California). ...Sometimes it seems as if we're the only ones who know how to pronounce everything correctly. :D :p

You're not the only one that says that...

My girlfriend is from Santa Rosa and she says that about everyone in Ohio.

Then again, she slipped up the other day and said "ain't" and "pop".

I just stood and laughed because I know how much she hates it that she's starting to fall into the patterns of someone from Ohio.

All that's going to change though... We're moving to Santa Rosa on Sunday so.. I'm probably going to be the weirdo!

People tell me I have some kind of bizarre hybrid accent - guess it's a midwestern thing.

However my relatives out in rural Kansas don't wash their clothes, they "warsh" them.

I like my accent, or rather what I consider a lack of accent. But maybe that's because I'm just used to hearing.

There's nothing I can't stand listening to more than a thick southern accent....sorry if that applies to anyone, but your accent just makes me want to stab my eardrums out :p One of my coworkers is from Texas and has an extremely thick southern accent and I just can't stand it. Something about it that annoys me.

I love a southern accent. And while I am from So. Cal. I actually do say "warsh". I can't explain where it comes from but it's really the only charming thing about me. ;)

I like southern city accents, like New Orleans and savannah. I guess you could call it the southern gentry accent, but my favorite accent is the ones where people say "suh" instead of sir.

As for accents I dislike, I can't stand people who say LongEYEland or the "dude, brah!" accent that california surfers have.

Agreed. Are we the only people who speak normally?

Nope, a lot of people in the midwest (from the larger cities, not the middle of nowhere) speak normally too. I pronounce my Rs, nor do I add any extra ones in. ;)

On the subject of accents, can someone tell me why the hell people in this state can't even pronounce the name of it correctly? I hate hearing "Missourah." Last time I checked, an "i" isn't pronounced as "ah". It's pronunciation is very similar to "misery" which is exactly the state (no pun intended) you'll be in when you're in this state.

At least the people who pronounce the "s" in "Illinois" have a somewhat legit reason...at least they're pronouncing it the same way it looks like you're supposed to pronounce it and not pulling an entire syllable out of their arse.

The southern accent coming from a woman makes me absolutely drool.......its soooo sexy.
