I wasn't putting it down. The pattern seems clear. I'm really hoping for a $1299 base price iPhone this fall, $1499 for the premium, then $1999 2 or 3 falls from now... "only $8.XX more per month on the payment plan" (when the plan term is stretched out enough to make the targeted monthly payment amount work).

This makes my stomach cringe. :( I was completely kidding in my post, just fyi. :p

See the future. The time of selling more on the merits of the product itself is winding down. We have arrived at the age of ramping up average revenue-per-unit sold. Pair it with a payment plan so we can rationalize it, and ANY price point can work.

And yes, I figured you were kidding.

The $1k mark is the limit for me. Definitely not willing to spend anything over that on a phone. Apple has an innate talent of "convincing" people to buy above their means, but iPhones have become so disposable that I don't see a point in investing so much money in something I will only keep for a year/year and a half.

I actually think this year for 2018 for the Apple Watch if one does release, will be the biggest year for the Apple Watch yet. The reason I say that is because the last three years Apple Watch has primarily been a progression of the watchOS with Added capabilities, but retaining the same form factor with no hardware advantages other than the water resistance rating.

For the Series 4, I think we will finally see some changes to the hardware, additional casing options/colors, perhaps some different type of bands that will be offered that could take advantage of the diagnostic port, and the monumental improvement would be health related sensor/features.

Here's one reason I disagree.... Last year Apple took the casing options from 4 (in the aluminum) to 3. I think that they are trying to maximize their profit on eliminating less popular colors by combining the gold and rose gold into this new coppery gold. Hopefully they will go back because I'm not a huge fan of the color, but it seems to me that they are unlikely to expand their colors at least past the 4 color aluminum that they had previously.

I expect a new watch in September along with smart watch bands that provide greatly expanded functionality including better battery, stronger WIFI and cell, some health applications (although those might be delayed by the lengthy approval process), maybe expanded memory, maybe a camera.

That’s very possible with the aluminum models, but I don’t know that they will not expand on the stainless models, perhaps with a brushed stainless or another ceramic color as well. Also with aluminum, seems Apple is more neutral at those colors as well.

I bet they will continue to rotate colors with their edition.. the profit margin on these being way higher and not a result of the materials used. I agree it's less of an incentive for the aluminum models.

I also see it as Which metal costs more in terms of manufacturing and machining, which the 7000 Series aluminum would be the cheapest to produce, allowing perhaps for a wider selection of colors or more updated Apple Watch casing options.

True. My point was more that the differences between aluminum and SS is $200 and difference between aluminum and ceramic is $900. No way is either difference anywhere near the cost of the case, even taking into account lower production for more expensive models. Therefore, they have a huge cost buffer even if they were to add more colors on the high end while they would want to keep production costs low for the lower end since the profit margin is much lower.

Honestly beyond the expected speed upgrades, the only thing I really want is for Apple to further expand availability of the Stainless Steel LTE Apple Watch to more countries. I really wanted to upgrade to the series 3 from my current series 0, but they don’t sell the SS/LTE models in any of the countries I live :/

Honestly I really expected rollout of the LTE Apple Watch to additional markets to be much faster than it is right now.

That’s nothing to do with Apple though, that’s all to do with the carriers. I’f they don’t have the backend infrastructure to allow number sharing, then they can’t support the Apple Watch. It’s up to them at this point...

I have to keep my S0 on airplane mode all just to make it through before I get home. If not, I'll be at 17% before 3pm. I'm really hoping to make it to September to get the S4. Would love to see a new one but if not the S3 would be on my wrist in no time (pun intended)

Uh make it a true lte device? Like being able to text non iMessage when phone is off or has died

LTE is data. Mobile texting uses a mobile chip which is different. That’s technically a generation 2 mobile tech. Apple Watch is already a “true” LTE device. Just doesn’t have a mobile chipset to make regular phone calls and texts without bridging to you phones device (which is why you can do it but your phone has to be on)

I am hoping for a redesign. The battery on my S0 is dying.

I am in the same boat and just ordered a refurbished Series 3 from Best Buy. It’s a Sport instead of Watch, but it was only $309. For half the price, Imma try it.

Wishlist:
- Bluetooth 5 for being able to be apart from iPhone 8/X at a longer distance.
- Tiny bit bigger screen (it currently has a big black bezel - but because its OLED and the UI has a black background it's not too noticable.. but the screen could be quite a lot larger but keeping the same form factor)
- Compass for Maps
