Islay malts are very moody for me. I mean, I have to be in just the right mood to enjoy them. And then, I'm even more particular than I am with highlanders. How does Lagavulin compare to Laphroaig and Bowmore? I can't stand Bowmore and like Laphroaig but don't want to spend more money on a malt I won't like...
Well, the 10YO Laphroig (and the 12 YO Lagavulin Cask Strength) just gives you this immense peat blast, which is sometimes a tad too overwhelming, IMHO.
The 16YO is far more civilized, that's the only way I can describe it, I highly recommend you give it a try, though.
Never had the luck to chance upon a Bowmore though, my Islay experience is currently limited to Ardbeg, Laphroaig and Lagavulin
