WhatsApp Beta updated for 6 & 6 Plus Screen Sizes

oke, just to make things clear;

If we updated our WhatsApp to this Beta version of WhatsApp, should we do a full Restore to make sure we are not infected with any kind of Chinese malware?

( I am a noob in this 😉 )
 
Ok guys I did some further testing.
As long as you have at least one app from pgyer installed on your phone which you have previously approved to run, additional apps from the same source will run on your iphone without iOS asking you to approve it because pgyer will be regarded as a trusted source.
Once you uninstall all the apps downloaded there, it will ask you again when you install one.

So it seems to me, as long as you have this WhatsApp Beta installed on your phone, pgyer („iPhone Distribution: Human Langxiong Advertising Decoration Engineering Co, Ltd.") will be regarded as a trusted source.
So if a malicious app with the same signature were to be installed on your phone one way or another, it would be able to bypass the iOS security check with no problems.

So be careful when you install the Beta, I am not sure if the trade-off between have a high res version of whats app and possibly introducing a severe security issue onto your phone is worth it.

If you use your phone for anything else but strictly personal use, I would advise against installing anything from pgyer.com

It depends. If you are very concerned about security than yes.
That said, there is currently no evidence that there is any kind of malware being installed.
The guy who uploaded the .apk to Pgyer said, that there was no delay so I doubt it would be possible that they have added malware to the app.

The only real security issue in my opinion is, that Pgyer gets added to the trusted sources list when you install and launch an app from there.

simply uninstalling all their apps (only whatsApp in your case) should remove them from the trusted sources an thus eliminate all security issues.

But I can’t guarantee it, thats why I would restore my phone if I wanted to be 100% sure, but than again you would have to do it without restoring from backup so for the time being I will just unintall the WhatsApp Beta and use the official version.

thanks for the feedback!! 😉 Deleted the WhatsApp Beta, and installed the one again from the AppStore.

I don’t know for sure but it looks like V13 was skipped because it was final like 2 weeks ago and since then they have been working on V14.
If they had wanted to release V13 it would be on our phones already.
 
oh damn. they officiale said that the update with the VOIP functionality will come out in 2015. That means that the Update which includes the screen optimisation for the new iphones will also come out in 2015... 😱

No, no not necessarily.
As far as I know the V14 version has VOIP already build in but its not activated, I have V14 on my Phone and VIOP does not work.
They will probably release a VIOP compatible version a lot sooner but activate it via software in 2015, just like they enabled the read notification today even thought it was already built into the app since the lat update more than 2 month ago...

Please stop asking the same question over and over again, nobody knows for sure.
There is a certain security risk associated with doing so and you will have to decide for yourself wether nor not you are willing to take the risk.

Accepting unknown certificates on your iPhone is basically the biggest security thread for iOS devices that exists.

You need to have WA already installed.
If you already have an older beta, download the App store version and try again.

Would downloading the pgyer version but self-signing it eliminate the problem?

Thanks, I thought the issue was with the certificate and not the app, but I guess it's better to be on the safe side. I've self-signed the app and added it to iTunes but I can't get iTunes to sync over to my iPhone as iTunes doesn't detect the app as a newer version because they're both v2.11.14 despite the self-signed one being a newer build 😕

Then you should back up your messages via iExplorer, remove the old version and than sync the new one and restore your messages via iExplorer... Kinda complicated i Know...
Or, can you just uncheck the app so iTunes deleted it and than check it again so it will sync the new version to your phone or will this remove your messages?

I used iFunBox (iExplorer would probably work too) to install the self-signed ipa into my phone. Didn't need to backup or restore the messages. It just installed over it fine. Having said that, I would still suggest doing a backup before you try this in case something goes wrong.
 
If i did a itunes/icloud backup of my device as a whole, does the WhatsApp beta Convos get backed up as well? Or just the app by itself gets backed up?
 
Hey guys I need help trying to install that pgyer beta I installed it the other day fine but then deleted it today and re downloaded the one from AppStore now when I try install nothing happens. Any ideas what I need to do!? I've tried turning the phone on and off doing a reset by holding home button and off switch, also tried deleting the app re downloading it and then trying to install over the top as nothing works
